1 DESCRIPTION
The MV-LED II is a 24VDC LED spotlight designed to illuminate underwater scenes for
video recording, and general underwater illumination. It is designed to run continuously
underwater.
The MV-LED II provides a typical light intensity 7500 Lux at one meter, a typical color
temperature of 6300K, and consumes 45 watts of power (typical). The MV-LED II is
available with hard anodized aluminum, 316 stainless steel and titanium housing
constructions.
Unlike conventional lamps, the MV-LED II uses a solid state LED light array. The MV-
LED II is offered in 24 VDC with the option to control the light via RS 485 or 0-5, 0-
10VDC analog control. All versions are fully dimmable. Dimming method varies by
model. The MV-LED II can also be used as a conventional ON/OFF lamp.
The LED light engine is secured in the housing via a special assembly. The forward
end of the MV-LED is sealed with an o-ring between the housing and a deepwater-rated
window, 6000m (10,000psi). The rear side of the MV-LED is sealed by the connector o-
ring.

3 INSTALLATION/ GENERAL FUNCTIONALITY
Operation of the MV-LED II requires an input voltage between 24 and 30 VDC. The
lamp draws 45 Watts (typical) of power at maximum light intensity. Mount the lamp in
any orientation using either the optional mounting clamp or your own mounting clamp.
The MV-LED II is protected from an over temperature condition. When the internal
temperature of the MV-LED II reaches 60ºC, it will automatically reduce its intensity to

10-00609 REV D
6
10% of the maximum light output. When the internal temperature returns to the safe
operating range the light will return to full intensity. During this self regulating
temperature protection the MV-LED II will not respond to commands to increase light. If
the MV-LED II internal temperature reaches 63.5ºC it will reduce its intensity to 0% until
the temperature returns to the safe operating range.
Serial communication is still available while the MV-LED II RS485 is in temperature
protection mode.
The thermal protection is intended as a failsafe feature to protect the light from
unintentional damage from extended use in air. It is not recommended to intentionally
run the light out of water for any extended period as it will reduce the product lifespan.
4 CONNECTOR WIRING
NOTE: 4 Pins are required for RS-485 lamps and 3 pins are required for analog control
lamps.
CAUTION: Do not apply power to RS-485 pins as it will damage the RS-485
driver electronics.

5 ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
The MV-LED II is intended to be maintenance free. Be sure to clean your lamp with
fresh water after each deployment. A visual inspection is always helpful in assessing the
integrity of the lamp. In the event the lamp stops working, please contact ROS customer
service. For troubleshooting see Section 7.
