3.4) Oil pressure control:
3.4.1) To control the proper function of the lubrication system pressure readings in the oil supply line (from
oil tank to the engine oil pump) at a distance of max. 100 mm (4 in.) from the connection to the engine
oil pump have to be taken.
Attake-off performance the indicated depressuremustbe less than 0,3bar(4,35 psi) compared to the
actual ambient pressure.
3.4.2) In addition pressure in the crankcase must be checked at take-off performance for proper operation
of the lubrication system.
A pressure gauge can be fitted at the place where the crankshaft locking screw can be installed. For
this the Allen screw M8 x 20, ROTAX part no. 240 071, has to be removed to allow the installation of
a pressure gauge in this location.
◆NOTE: The thread must be standard size M 8 (metric). Up to engine -no. 4,005.176 the
threadlengthmustnotbemorethan12mm(47in.)topreventdamageofcrankshaft.
The pressure in the crankcase at take-off performance must not exceed the actual ambient pressure
by more than 0,3 bar (4,35 psi)
Ifboth readingsarewithin thesespecifiedpressure limits,theoil system shouldbe working sufficiently
to warrant safe operation of the engine.
▲WARNING: If your readings exceed these pressure limits then the engine as installed has too
much flow resistance in the lubrication system. This condition is unsafe and must be
corrected immediately to avoid severe engine damage.
▲WARNING: Prior to a flight any shortcoming has to be rectified in accordance to above
instructions.
3.5) Safety recommendations:
3.5.1) All users of ROTAX 912 up to engine serial no. 3,792.943 with a lubrication system which does not
comply with ROTAXrequirements as describedabove, mustbe checked immediately, andbefore any
further flights, and the oil pump shaft assy has to be replaced.
ROTAX offers to all users a special kit, part no. 887 390, consisting of oil pump shaft no.
837 126 and oil pump O-rings (1 x 950 410, 2 x 250 460, 1x 850 950, 1x 230 020).
◆NOTE: For reason of change from sand casting to pressure die cast of oil pump housing
apply the supplied O-rings as follows.
O-ring 850 950 (29,87x1,78) up to engine no. 3,792.885 for oilpump housing in sand cast
O-ring 230 020 (32x2) from engine no. 3,792.886 for oilpump housing in sand cast
O-ring 230 020 (32x2) from engine no. 3,792.994 for oilpump housing in die cast
O-ring 950 410 (30x2,5) from engine no. .4,005.172 for oilpump housing in die cast
3.5.2) Allusers of ROTAXengines 912, fromengineno. 3,792.944upto 4,152.100 witha lubrication systemthat
does not comply with ROTAX requirements must check at once the lubrication system before any further
flights and replace the oil pump shaft assy.
ROTAX offers all users a special kit consisting of oil pump shaft assy no. 837 129 and the O-rings (1
x 950 410, 2 x 250 460).
3.4) Öldruck-Kontrolle:
3.4.1) Um die ordnungsgemäße Funktion des Ölkreislaufs zu überwachen, muß eine Druckmessung in
der Öl-Saugleitung (vom Öltank zur Motor-Ölpumpe) in einer Entfernung von max. 100 mm vom
Anschluß der Ölpumpe durchgeführt werden.
Bei Vollast muß der angezeigte Unterdruck geringer als 0,3 bar gegenüber dem vorherrschenden
Umgebungsluftdruck sein.
3.4.2) Zusätzlich muß der Druck im Kurbelgehäuse bei Vollast für ordnungsgemäße Funktion des
Ölsystems überprüft werden.
Ein Öldruck-Fühler kann an der selben Stelle angebracht werden, wo sonst die Kurbelwellen-
Fixierschraube montiert wird. Dazu wird die Innen-SK-Schraube M8 x 20, T-Nr. 240 071, entfernt
und der Öldruck-Fühler montiert.
◆HINWEIS: Das Gewinde muß standard M8 (metrisch) sein! Bis Mot.-Nr. 4,005.176 darf das
Gewinde nur 12 mm lang sein, um die Kurbelwelle nicht zu beschädigen.
DerDruckimKurbelgehäusebeiVollastdarfdenvorherrschendenUmgebungs-Luftdruckumnicht
mehr als 0,3 bar übersteigen.
Wenn beide angezeigte Druckwerte innerhalb der genannten Limits liegen, ist anzunehmen, daß
der Ölkreislauf so funktioniert, daß ein sicherer Betrieb des Motors gewährleistet ist.
▲WARNUNG: Wenn dieangezeigtenDruckwerteüber den Limits liegen, hat der Motor in seiner
vorliegenden Installation einen zu hohen Durchfluß-Widerstand im Schmier-
system. Dieser Zustand gefährdet die Sicherheit und muß sofort korrigiert
werden, um einen ernstlichen Motorschaden zu vermeiden.
▲WARNUNG: Vor jedem Flug müssen die aufgetretenen Fehler anhand der obigen Anleitung
beseitigt werden.
3.5) Sicherheitsempfehlungen:

Erfordernissen übereinstimmt, muß sofort das Schmiersystem überprüft werden, ohne einen
weiteren Flug vorher, und die Ölpumpenwelle kpl. ausgetauscht werden.
ROTAX bietet allen Anwendern einen speziellen Kit, T-Nr. 887 390, bestehend aus: 1 x 837 126
Ölpumpenwelle kpl. und O-Ringen (1 x 950 410, 1x 850 950, 1x 230 020 und 2 x 250 460) an.
◆HINWEIS: Aufgrund der Umstellung von Sandguß auf Druckgußölpumpe sind die mitgelie-
ferten O-Ringe wie folgt anzuwenden.
