2Safety Information
To ensure safe and reliable operation of this
thermometer, read these instructions fully before use.
Failure to use this thermometer as described in these
instructions may result in personal injury or damage to
the thermometer or other equipment.
•Before using the thermometer, inspect the case and
probe(s) for damage. Do not use the thermometer if
it appears damaged.
• Check the thermometer for correct operation before
using it to make measurements. Do not use it if it
operates incorrectly, but return it to RS Components
for repair or calibration – The address is given at the
end of these instructions.
• Disconnect the thermocouple probe(s) from the
thermometer before opening the case to replace the
batteries.
• Do not use the thermometer in an environment
where explosive gas, vapor, or dust may be present.
• Do not use the thermometer to measure the
temperature of Hazardous Live conductors or
equipment.
• Model 55II: Measurement errors may occur if
voltages on the measurement surfaces result in a
potential difference greater than 1 V between the
two thermocouples. When potential differences are
anticipated between the thermocouples, use
electrically insulated thermocouples.
2Caution
If the thermometer is used in the vicinity of equipment
which generates electromagnetic interference, the
display may become unstable or the measurements
shown may be subject to large errors.

Normal : Press and hold the MIN/MAX button to
return to normal operation.
MAX : The instrument stores the maximum and
minimum values. The Maximum value is displayed.
MIN : The instrument stores the maximum and
minimum values. The Minimum value is displayed.
AVG : The instrument stores the maximum and
minimum values. The Average value is displayed.

SETUP Option
To change the various options listed below :
Press the SETUP button to enter setup mode
Press the ▲or ▼button to change the parameter value.
Press the ENTER button to store the value in memory.
Press the SETUP button again to move to the next
parameter.
Press the SETUP button for 2 seconds to exit setup
mode.
1. RS 232 Off / On

Logging intervals from 0 to 59 seconds may be selected.
Press the ENTER button to delete logged data from
memory.

Thermocouples type of K or J may be selected.

The allowable offset range is ±5°C or K and 9.0°F
6. AUTO POWER OFF
Auto power-off time from 10 minutes to 60 minutes or
OFF (Disabled) may be selected.

7. Real-Time Clock
Press ▲or ▼until the display shows the correct
minutes and then press ENTER to store the minutes in
memory.
Press ▲or ▼until the display shows the correct
hours and then press ENTER to store the time in
memory.
Data Logging
Press the “Logging” button to begin Data Logging
(See “Setup” option above to set interval”).

Data Send (only when RS232 enabled)
Press the ENTER button to send logged data to a
Personal Computer.
Battery Replacement
When the battery symbol “” appears on the display,
there is insufficient power in the battery for correct
operation – Replace the battery.
The thermometer will retain the settings in its internal
memory.
Setup settings will be lost if the batteries are removed
for more than 30 seconds.

Maintenance and Calibration
Do not attempt to repair this instrument - It contains no
user-serviceable parts. This instrument should be
calibrated at least yearly, or more frequently if subject
to heavy usage or if suspected of being inaccurate.
Maintenance, repair and calibration should only be
performed by qualified personnel. Contact RS Compo-
nents for further information – The address is given at
the end of these instructions.
Cleaning
Periodically wipe the case with a damp cloth and
detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents.

Limited Warranty
This thermometer is warranted to the original purchaser
against defects in material and workmanship for 1 year
from the date of purchase. During this warranty period,
RS Components will at its option, replace or repair the
defective unit, subject to verification of the defect or
malfunction. This warranty does not cover disposable
batteries, or damage from abuse, neglect, accident,
unauthorized repair, alteration, contamination, or
abnormal conditions of operation or handling.
Any implied warranties arising from of the sale of this
product, including but not limited to implied warranties
of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose,
are limited to the above. RS Components shall not be
liable for loss of use of the thermometer or other
incidental or consequential damages, expenses, or
economic loss, or for any claim or claims for such
damage, expense or economic loss. Some states or
countries laws vary, so the above limitations or

Sicherheitshinweise
Damit ein sicherer und zuverlässiger Betrieb dieses
Themometers gewährleistet ist, lesen Sie diese
Bedienungsanleitung vor dem Gebrauch aufmerksam
durch. Wird das Thermometer nicht gemäß dieser
Bedienungsanleitung verwendet, kann das zu
Verletzungen oder Schäden am Thermometer oder
anderen Geräten führen.
•Überprüfen Sie das Thermometergehäuse und die
Prüfköpfe vor dem Gebrauch auf Beschädigungen.
Das Thermometer bei Beschädigung nicht
verwenden.
•Vergewissern Sie sich, dass das Thermometer vor
der Verwendung einwandfrei funktioniert. Sollte dies
nicht der Fall sein, das Thermometer nicht
verwenden, sondern zur Reparatur oder
Kalibrierung an RS Components zurücksenden.

Bedienungsanleitung.
•Trennen Sie die Thermoelement-Prüfköpfe vom
Thermometer, bevor Sie zum Batteriewechsel das
Gehäuse öffnen.
•Verwenden Sie das Thermometer nicht in explosiver/
gashaltiger, dampfhaltiger oder staubiger Umgebung.
•Verwenden Sie das Thermometer nicht zum Messen
der Temperatur gefährlicher stromführen der Leiter
oder Geräte.
•Modell 55II : Wenn die Spannungen auf den
Messflächen zu einem Potentialunterschied von
mehr als 1 V zwischen den beiden Thermoelemen-
ten führen, kann es zu Messfehlern kommen. Wenn
abzusehen ist, dass zwischen den Thermoelemen-
ten Potentialunterschiede bestehen, verwenden Sie
elektrisch isolierte Thermoelemente.
Achtung
Wenn das Thermometer in der Nähe einer
elektromagnetischen Störquelle eingesetzt wird, kann
dies zu einer instabilen oder falschen Anzeige der
Messwerte führen.

SETUP-Optionen
So ändern Sie die unten aufgeführten Optionen :
Drücken Sie die Taste SETUP, um in den Setup-Modus
zu gelangen.
Drücken Sie die Taste ▲oder ▼, um den Parameter-
wert zu ändern.
Drücken Sie die Taste ENTER, um den Wert zu
speichern.
Drücken Sie die Taste SETUP erneut, um zum
nächsten Parameter zu gelangen.
Drücken Sie die Taste SETUP für ungefähr
2 Sekunden, um den Setup-Modus zu verlassen.
