Information
Introduction
This manual describes how to install the external
safety clips for G36 fifth wheels.
IMPORTANT: Keep this manual in a safe location for
future reference.
Notes, Cautions and Warnings
You must read and understand all of the procedures
presented before starting work. Failure to follow
all of the procedures contained in these instructions
may result in a hazardous condition or cause a
hazardous condition to develop.
Other company-specific and workshop procedures,
as set by applicable regulations, must be followed.
Proper tools must be used to perform the
maintenance and repair procedures described in this
manual.
Throughout this manual, you will notice the
terms “NOTE,” “IMPORTANT,” “CAUTION,”
and “WARNING” followed by useful product
information.
So that you may better understand the manual,
those terms are defined as follows:

Installations must be performed by a trained
technician using proper tools and safe procedures.
We recommend only the use of SAF-HOLLAND
Original Parts.

It is recommended to conduct a:
• Pre inspection of the fifth wheel
• Check for no damaged parts
• Ensure correct mechanical function of working
components
• Replace any parts as required, prior to installing
the Safety Clip
This manual contains procedures to install the
external safety clips for G36 Fifth Wheels.
Be aware of pinch points during
removal & refitment.
Before attempting any replacement procedures you
must read and understand the following:
DO NOT attempt to replace components on any fifth
wheel without following the instructions contained
in this manual.
DO NOT modify, change, or add to the product. Use
only genuine SAF-HOLLAND parts.
Perform all procedures in a lighted area clear of
obstacles and other personnel.
Always wear safety glasses during removal,
installation, or service procedures. DO NOT strike
any part of the product with a steel hammer.
Observe standard precautions when lifting.
Always verify proper operation and adjust the fifth
wheel following the procedures contained in the
owner’s manual and service literature before placing
back in service.

Procedure for installing the safety clip kit onto G36 and G36L
fifth wheels
The kit and individual part numbers are as follows:
Kit p/n: G36-SCK-01
Description: Safety clip kit for G36 fifth wheels (only suits 185, 225, and 250 mm feet)
Assembly instructions:

SS-580-10 Stainless steel collared eye bolt 10 mm to suit G36 safety clip 1
137350-08 Stainless steel quick link 8 mm to suit G36 safety clip 1
132450-10 Stainless steel spring hook 10 mm to suit G36 safety clip 1

1. Remove standard rectangular adjustment block and replace with T-shaped adjustment block (part number: 662129158S).
Re-use hex bolts and re-tighten to 25 Nm.
Apply thread locker compound to hex bolts before installation.
Retain the standard adjustment block for future re-use if required to convert back to original condition.
2. Remove hex bolt from underside of handle and replace with supplied eye bolt (part number: SS-580-10).
Apply thread locker compound to eye bolt before installation.
Tighten to 46 Nm.
Retain hex bolt for future re-use, if required to convert back to original condition.

Fit the adjustment block in the
same position as the removed
block (i.e. same holes as the
removed block).
Failure to follow this step correctly
could affect performance of the
handle!

Quick link and
snap hook must
be orientated
so that it can be
attached on the
outer side of the
fifth wheel!
3. Attach quick link (part number: 137350-08) and spring hook (part number: 132450-10) as shown in the assembly diagram.
Apply thread locker compound to quick link before installation.
Ensure that the spring hook is oriented as shown, so that it can be attached on the outer side of the fifth wheel (see below).
4. Check correct function of all mechanical components; please refer to operating manual.
Correct operation of the latch and handle after installation of
the safety clip kit must be confirmed!
