Openthelidbypressingthebuttonthatisinfrontofthe
lid.
Pullbackoneofthemetalcontactplatesandinsertyour

Ni-CdorNi-MH(AAA,AA,CorD size)batteryinto
aslot,makingsurethatthebatteryisplacedsothatthe

symbolonthebatteryisinthesamepositionasthe

symbolinsidethecompartment.Ifyouwishto
rechargea 1.2Vprismaticbattery
instead,
firstinsertthe

Then
insertthe1.2Vprismaticbattery.Again,makesurethat
thepositionof

ClosethelidandwatchtheLCDastheSmartCharger
evaluatesyourbatterytotestitsrechargingneeds.

1.2InsertingtheBatteries
Insertuptotwoprismaticbatteriesorup
tofourAAA,AA,C,orD batteriesintotheslots,

batteriesinsertedmustbeofthesametypeand
capacity.Thenclosethelid(theSmartCharger
willnotbegincharginguntilthelidisclosed).
TheLoadingsymbolwilldisappearandtheSmartChargerwill
beginanalyzingthebatteries.TheBatteryAnalyzersymbolwill
cycleduringthistimeandtheoutlineoftheEnergysymbolwilllight
up.Ifthebatteryisfoundtobeunsuitableforrecharging,theBad

Warning: Inserting batteries of a different

YoucanalsoforcetheSmartChargertoskiptheIDSphase
andenterSoft-StartdirectlybypressingtheIDSkey.However,
youshouldnotethatrepeatedlyoverridingthisfunctionmayleadto
increasedmemoryeffect(whichwillultimatelyreducethebattery's
maximumcapacity)andincreasedgenerationofdamagingheat
duringrecharging,which,inturn,willreduceperformanceand
batterylife.
Conversely,youcanalsoforcetheSmartChargertoenter
theIDSfunctionbypressingandholdingtheIDSkeyforaround
threesecondsduringSoft-Startmode.

1.3ChargingBegins
TheSmartChargerwillbegin
rechargingthe1.2V
Ni-Cd/Ni-MH
batteryby
progressingautomaticallythroughthefollowingprocesses:
Soft-StartCharging:TheSmartChargermayenterSoft-
StartChargingdirectly,oraftertheIDSfunctionhastakenplace.
Thismethodofchargingwillensurethatthebatterydoesnotheat
upduringrecharging.TheSmartChargerwillcarefullyanalyzethe
battery,andpre-chargethebatterytoa suitablelevelbeforeFast
Chargingbegins.DuringSoft-StartCharging,theSoft-Start
symbolwilllightupandtheinnersegmentofthesymbolwillflash,
whilethebarsoftheEnergysymbollightupina sequencethat
convergesinthemiddle.
FastCharging:TheSmartCharger
willenterFastChargemodeafterSoft-Start
Charginghastakenplace.Thissuperhigh-
speedchargingreplenishesupto80-90%of
thebattery'soriginalcapacity.Duringthis
process,theFastChargesymbolwilllightupandtheFASTicon
insidethesymbolwillflash.TheFastChargingcurrentvaries
accordingtothequalityofthebattery.DuringFastCharging,the
barswithintheEnergysymbolwillcyclefrombottom
to
top.Top-OffCharging:Thistypeofcharging
topsuptheremaining10-20%ofthebattery's
capacityafterFastCharginghastakenplace.The
SmartChargerwillthenenterTrickleChargemode
(seebelow).DuringTop-OffCharging,the

TrickleChargesymbolwilllightupwhilethe
Top-Off/

TrickleCharging:Thismodeofchargingappliesa very
lowcurrenttomaintainthebatteryatitsmaximumcapacityuntil
youarereadytouseit.Itdoesthisbyreplenishingtheinternal

leakageofthefullychargedbattery.SinceTrickle
Chargemodemaintainsthereplenishedstateofthe
battery,itisrecommendedthatyoukeepthebattery
inthecharger(inTrickleChargemode)untilyouare
readytouseit.IntheTrickleChargemode,allof
theenergybarswilllightup,theChargedBattery
symbolwillappearandtheTop-Off/TrickleCharge
iconsofthesymbolwillflash.Theunitwillstayin
TrickleChargemodeuntilyouopenthelid.
Thechargingtimerequireddependsonthetype,brand,
size,capacityandconditionofthebattery(forexample,badquality
batteriestakelongertorecharge).Thetimecanvaryanywhere
betweenseveralminutesandmanyhours.YourSmartChargerwill
takeasmuchtimeasnecessarytorechargeyourbatteries
properlyandsafely.Seethetablebelowforanapproximate
indicationofchargingtimes:
Theabovechargingtimesarefora typicalbatteryandfor
generalreferenceonly.TheApproximateChargingTimeexcludes
Top-OffandTrickleChargetime.

Checking

Ni-Cd/Ni-MHBatteries
Openthelidandplaceone1.2VNi-Cd/Ni-MHbatteryintoa
batteryslot.PressANALYZE.TheSmartChargerwilltakejusta
fewsecondstoevaluatetheconditionofyourbattery,duringwhich
timetheBatteryAnalyzersymbolwillcycleandtheoutlineofthe
Energysymbolwilllightup.The
battery's
voltageandenergy
remainingwillthenbedisplayedontheLCD(thegreaterthe
numberofenergybarsdisplayedmeansthehigherthelevelof
energyleft).Ifthebatteryisnotsuitableforrecharging,theBad
Batterysymbolwillappear,inwhichcaseyoushouldremovethe
batteryanddisposeofit.
Important: Analyzing the battery depletes the battery's
energy,
which is why increasingly less energy will be
dis-
played on the LCD every time you
re-analyze
the same battery.
Note: The level ofenergy left shown is based on a
normal,
fully charged battery. If the battery being analyzed
has not been fully charged before being
discharged,
it may
not be possible to accurately indicate the current energy.
1.5
Revitalising1.2VNi-Cd/Ni-MHBatteries
Certainbrandsofbattery,newbatteriesorbatteriesthat

chargingandrechargingcyclestohelprevitalisethebatteries.The
guidelinesbelowmayhelptorevitaliseyourbatteriessothatyou
mayeventuallybeabletoFastChargethem:
a.Startbychargingthreetofourofthesetypeofbatteries-
withthesamecapacity,size,typeandbrand- together,
allowingthebatteriestoundergoseveralcharging
anddischargingcyclesbeforetryingtoFastCharge
eachbatteryseparately.
OR
b.Chargeoneofthesetypeofbatteriesonitsownand
allowtheSmartChargertotrytorevitalisethebatteryby
runningthroughseveralcharginganddischarging
cycles.
Important: If the Premature Full condition still exists
afterseveral charging and discharging
cycles,
the batteries
are not suitable for Fast Charging one at a time and should
always be recharged together in packs of three or four.

1.8RechargingisComplete!
Whena 1.2VNi-Cd/Ni-MHbatteryisfullyrecharged,allof
theenergybarswithintheEnergysymbolwilllightup,theCharged
Batterysymbolwillappearandtheiconsofthe
Top-Off/Trickle
Chargesymbolwillflash.TheunitwillremaininTrickleCharge
modeuntilyouopenthelid.Simplyremovethebatteryfromthe
unitanditisreadytouse!Ifyouarenotyetreadytousethe
battery,itisrecommendedthatyouleaveitintheunitwithout
openingthelidandwithoutdisconnectingtheAC-DCadapter.The
SmartChargerwillcontinuetoapplyTrickleChargetomaintainthe

Toensurethesafeoperationoftheunit,thetransformer
