INFORMATION ON CAUTION & WARNING SIGNS
Warning! Safety warning: Failure to observe this warning may result in injury to
persons and damage to equipment.
Caution! Safety warning: Failure to observe this warning may result in damage to
equipment and improper functioning of the IUOU charger.
GENERAL SAFETY AND INSTALLATION INFORMATION
Warning! Thefollowing fundamental safety measures must
be observed when using electrical equipment to avoid the
danger of: electric shocks
fire
injury
ABOUT THE UNIT ITSELF
The IUOU charger may only be used for the purpose specified by
the manufacturer!
When working on the IUOU charger, always disconnect from the mains!
Do not operate the IUOU charger if the housing or cables are
damaged!
The IUOU charger must be positioned and fixed in such a way
that it cannot fall over or fall down!
The IUOU charger may only be connected to earthed sockets!
Ensure good ventilation.
The IUOU charger must be kept in a safe place out of the reach of
children!
Warning! Protect and always operate the 115V connection
of the IUOU charger via a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit
Interrupter) of 30mA fault current.
The IUOU charger may not be operated in damp or wet environment!
Servicing and repair may only be carried out by skilled personnel
being familiar with the risks involved and the relevant regulations!
CAUTION FOR INSTALLATION ON BOATS!
Wrong installation of electrical units on a boat may
lead to corrosion of the boat. Therefore, please let a
(boat) electrician carry out the installation of the charger.

RECTIFIER FUNCTION
The IUOU charger can be used as a 12V/24V mains unit
provided that the maximum current consumption of the
consumers does not exceed the rated current of the charger. It
is recommended to have battery connected (Fig. 2) in any
case. The consumers should be connected directly to the battery.
This applies in particular to consumers with high peak
currents (e.g. high start-up current in the case of compressors).
In parallel operation (consumers and battery), the maximum
consumer current should be less than the rated current of the
charger because otherwise the battery will discharge.
Maximum current consumption of consumers when used as a
mains unit (Fig 1).
SEC-1245A = max. 45 Ampere
SEC-2425A = max. 25 Ampere
The 3 phase IUOU charge characteristic guarantees
rapid, complete and at the same time gentle charging
of the battery.
Stage 1: THE I-PHASE. The battery is charged at
constant current (45A for SEC-1245A or 25A for SEC-
2425A) until it approaches the float voltage. The
control LED glows red. The output voltage is
determined by the battery voltage.
Stage 2: UO-PHASE. On reaching 80% of the max.
rated current, the charging takes place at a constant
Boost Voltage of 14.4V (SEC-1445A) or 28.8V (SEC-
2425A). The charger remains in this stage until the
current reduces to 10% of the max. rated current or 2
hours, whichever is earlier. The control LED glows yellow.
Stage 3: U-PHASE. After the UO-phase, the charging
voltage switches over to floating voltage (13.8V for
SEC-1245A and 27.6 for SEC-2425A). In this phase, the
battery is practically at rest and only takes the current
necessary for maintaining the capacity. The LED light
is green.
If a load is connected to the battery in this phase, it is
possible that the charger switches back to the UO-phase
until the 2 hour time limit is reached. Otherwise it
remains in this U-phase.
CAUTION!
Batteries with a cell closure may not be charged,
as there is the danger of explosion by occurrence
of electrolytic gas.
Ni-Cd batteries and non-rechargeable batteries
may not be charged. The casing of these batteries
can burst by explosion.
CHARGING
ABOUT THE CABLES
- If the cables have to be inserted through metal
walls or other sharp-edged materials, use a cable
duct or cable bushes!
- Do not lay cables loose or with sharp bends on
electrically conductive materials(metals)!
- Do not pull the cables!
- Do not lay 115V main cables and 12V/24V DC cable
together in the same cable duct!
- The specified minimum cables cross-section must
be complied with!
- Fix cables properly in such a way that no one can
trip over them!
- Lay cables in such a way that they are not exposed
to the risk of damage!
The main use for this twin battery charger is for motor
homes, on sailing yachts as well as for ambulances and
emergency vehicles, equipped with two separate
battery sources, i.e. starter and a consumer battery.
This offers the possibility to charge the batteries separately.
First of all the battery with the lowest level is charged
up to the level of the second battery. During a so-called
I-phase, the batteries will be charged with constant
current until a charging level of 13.8V(SEC-1245A) or
27.6V(SEC-2425A) is approached..
On decrease of the current to 80% of the rated current,
the charger switches over to the so-called UO-phase,
increasing the charging voltage to 14.4V (SEC-1245A)
or 28.8V (SEC-2425A).
This charging voltage is kept until the charging
current decreases to less than 5A or until the time
limit of the UO-phase, set by 2 hours, is exceeded.
Hereafter, the charging voltage is reduced to 13.8V
(SEC-1245A) or 27.6V (SEC-2425A).
The time limited UO-phase gives the advantage that a
possible external load of more than 5A does not lock
the charger in UO-phase (the charger will remain in
UO-phase for a max. of 2 hours).
The maximum capacity for lead-acid batteries should
not be higher than 500AH. For gel-batteries, check the
max. capacity with your dealer.

INSTALLATION
5
The temperature sensor available as an optional accessory (Part
No.TF-500) should be used to achieve optimum consumer battery
charging for the whole temperature range.
The chargers can be used with or without a temperature sensor
(optional accessory, Part No. TF-500). Switching from fixed charging
voltage levels to temperature-controlled charging characteristics
is done automatically by switching the charger ON and OFF.
Locate the temperature sensor in such a position that
it cannot be influenced by other heat sources (e.g. hot-
air or cooler hose). Plugged onto the socket, the IUOU
charger will automatically switch over to temperature-
controlled charging characteristics.
- The temperature sensor connection is done via the socket on
the rear side of the charger.
- It is best to attach the sensor head directly to the consumer
battery, e.g. using double sided adhesive tape fixing it on the
top of the consumer battery, or else placing it next to the
consumer battery.
For automatic activation of the temperature sensor, switch the
charger ON and OFF.

The charger must be installed in a place protected from
damp and humidity. Ensure that the location is well
ventilated and that the surface on which it is mounted
is even and sufficiently stable. The air intake on the
bottom of the IUOU charger and the air outlet on the
back should not be blocked or restricted.
Before connecting or disconnecting the DC cable, set
the mains switch to OFF and unplug from the mains.

INSTALLATION AND PUTTING INTO OPERATION
!
- For connecting the charger, only use cables with
the specified cable cross sections.
- These are shown in the following diagram.
- Fit the ends of the cables to be connected to the
IUOU charger with lugs (fork aperture: 6mm).
Crimp the lugs onto the cable end with crimping
pliers.
- Make sure that the lugs are safely fitted.
- Connect the cable to the unit via the two terminals
on the front panel.
Make sure that the cables are properly
poled!
Wrong connected cables may destroy the
IUOU charger.
