Design and principle of operation
3.3.2 Actuator stem retracts
When the signal pressure is reduced or the
control signal fails, the springs move the ac-
tuator stem upward and open a mounted
globe valve. The valve closes when the signal
pressure is increased enough to overcome
the spring force.
3.4 Versions
Type3271 Pneumatic Actuator with
1000cm²:
− Standard version
The top and bottom diaphragm cases are
made of painted sheet steel.
− Travel stop
The actuator as a special version can be
tted with a mechanically adjustable
travel stop. The travel is reduced by up to
50% in both directions of action (stem
extends or retracts).
− Side-mounted handwheel
The actuator can be combined with a
Type3273 Side-mounted Handwheel
with max. 60mm travel (uT8312).
3.5 Accessories
Swivel hoist
The pneumatic actuators with 1000cm² ac-
tuator area have a female thread on the top
diaphragm case to allow an eyebolt or swiv-
el hoist to be screwed into it. The eyebolt can
be used to vertically lift the actuator and is
included in the scope of delivery. The swivel
hoist is designed for setting a control valve
assembly upright or for lifting the actuator
without valve. The swivel hoist can be or-
dered (accessories).

Vent plugs
Vent plugs are screwed into the exhaust air
ports of pneumatic and electropneumatic de-
vices. They ensure that any exhaust air that
forms can be vented to the atmosphere (to
avoid excess pressure in the device). Further-
more, the vent plugs allow air intake to pre-
vent a vacuum from forming in the device.

Feedback connection (travel pick-off inter-
face)accordingtoIEC60534-6-1
Various valve accessories according to
IEC60534-6-1 and NAMUR recommenda-
tion can be mounted on SAMSON control
valves designed according to the modular
principle. See associated valve documenta-
tion. The travel pick-off interface for these
mounted devices is included in the scope of
delivery of the SAMSON Type3271 Actua-
tor with 1000cm² actuator area.
3.6 Technical data
The nameplate provides information on the
actuator version (see the 'Markings on the
device' section).
