• In this manual, "SC-42A" mobile terminal is usually referred to as
"terminal".
• In this manual, the contents are described at the time of purchase.
• The Operating System (OS) may be upgraded due to improve the quality
of the terminal and add a function. At that time, the operation method
may change. For information of additional function or changing operation
steps, refer to NTT DOCOMO website. Also some applications used for
former OS may not work or unintended failure may occur.

• The terminal supports LTE, W-CDMA, GSM/GPRS and wireless LAN.
• Because your terminal uses wireless transmission, it may not function in
locations where it is di󱐰cult for radio waves to penetrate, such as tunnels,
underground passages and some buildings, in areas where radio waves are
weak, or out of LTE service area and FOMA service area. Even when you
are high up in a tall building or condominium and nothing blocks your view
outside, your terminal may not be able to receive or transmit signals. Also,
communication may be interrupted even when using without moving while radio
waves is strong and four antenna marks is displayed on your terminal.
• Because your terminal uses radio waves to communicate, it is possible that a
third party may attempt to tap your calls. However, LTE, W-CDMA, GSM/GPRS
system automatically applies a condential communication function to all
calls, so even if a third party could somehow tap a call, they only hear noise.
• The terminal encodes voice communication as digital data. When you are
operating your terminal while moving to a location subject to weaker radio
wave conditions, the transmitted digital data may not be correctly decoded
and as a result the decoded voice may di󱐯er somewhat from the actual voice.
• Keep the data that you registered in the terminal separately by noting down
periodically or saving to microSD card, PC, etc. Note that DOCOMO cannot
assume any responsibility for any loss of saved contents of data resulting from
malfunction, repair, changing of the model or other handling of the terminal.
• As with PCs, some user-installed apps or accessed websites may give the
terminal instability of this terminal operation, or may send your location
information or personal information registered to the terminal to outside via
the Internet and the information may be used improperly. Therefore, verify the
supplier and operating conditions of the apps or websites before use them.
• The terminal automatically performs communications for some functions, for
example, to synchronize data, check the latest software, maintain connection
with the server, etc.
Additionally, when you download apps or watch video etc., a large amount
of packet communication charges are executed. Therefore, it is highly
recommended to use packet pack or packet at-rate service.
• Depending on apps or services you use, a packet communication charges may
be charged even if you perform Wi-Fi communication.
• The terminal internal storage or the microSD card does not have enough
memory, running apps may not work normally. In such case, delete saved data.
• In case of loss of the terminal, set the screen lock password, etc. to ensure
the security of the terminal (P.109).
• If you lose your terminal, change password and disable certication of online
service accounts from PC so that Google Services such as Gmail, Google Play,
and SNS, etc. should not be used by others.
• For services and apps provided by any third party included Google LLC
thoroughly read the terms of use of Google LLC. NTT DOCOMO is not liable for
malfunctions, for any disadvantage brought to you caused by the app provided
by any third party included Google LLC you installed.
• If the terms of use, etc. appear, follow the instructions on the screen.
• Apps or services are subject to change without prior notice.
• The terminal does not support service providers other than sp-mode, mopera U
and Business mopera Internet.
• For details about usage fee, etc., refer to the NTT DOCOMO website.
• Although the display is manufactured with extremely advanced technology,
some dots may not be lit or be always lit. It is characteristic of the display and
not malfunction. Please be forewarned.
• DOCOMO shall not be liable for commercially available optional equipment.

■ Dark mode
You can change the themes that is easy on your eyes so that you can
use the terminal comfortably at night as well.
When the location information sets to ON, You can automatically set
the time from sunset to sunrise. → P.107
■ Easy mode
You can use the home screen that have simple screen layout and bigger
icon.
By increasing the recognition time of long presses, you can prevent
unintended erroneous operations and use a high-contrast keyboard to
make the input characters easier to see. → P.107



instructions of the facility.
Turn the terminal OFF in areas where use is prohibited.

AC adapter : 100 VAC (Connect to the AC outlet for internal
household use)
AC adapter for global use : Between 100 VAC and 240 VAC
(Connect to the AC outlet for internal household use)
DC adapter : 12 VDC, 24 VDC (specic for negative ground
vehicle)

If the DC adapter's fuse blows, replace it only with the
specied fuse.
If fuses other than those specied are used, this may result in

individual user's manuals.

by the warranty.
The internal battery may swell as battery life gets closer depending on
operating conditions. Even if you su󱐰ciently recharge the terminal but
usage time signicantly decreases or the internal battery bulges, this
means that the internal battery needs to be replaced. To replace the
internal battery, contact "Technical Inquiries & Repairs" provided on the
last page of this manual or a repair center specied by DOCOMO.
■ Charge the battery in an environment with the proper ambient
temperature (5℃ to 35℃ ).
■ The operating time of the internal battery varies depending on the
operating environment and the secular degradation of the internal

■ Wireless LAN (WLAN) uses radio waves to enable communications
between compatible devices, thus allowing connection to a local
area network from anywhere within the range. On the other hand,

■ We cannot assume the responsibility even if leakage of data and
information occurs at the time of communication using wireless
LAN function.
• Wireless LAN
Do not use wireless LAN near magnetic devices such as electrical
appliances or AV/OA devices, or in radio waves.
• Magnetism or radio waves may increase noises or disable
communications, etc. (especially when using a microwave oven).
• When used near TV, radio, etc., reception interference may occur, or
channels on the TV screen may be disturbed, etc.
• If there are multiple wireless LAN access points nearby and the same
channel is used, search may not work correctly.

• Cautions on using 2.4 GHz devices
The operating frequency band of the WLAN device is used by home
electric appliances such as microwave oven, industrial, scientic, and
medical equipment including premises radio stations for identifying
mobile units used in the manufacturing lines of plants (radio stations
requiring a license), specied low power radio stations (radio stations
requiring no license) and amateur radio stations (radio stations requiring
a license).
1. Before using the device, conrm that premises radio stations for
identifying mobile units, specied low power radio stations and
amateur radio stations are not being operated nearby.
2. If the device causes harmful radio interference to premises radio
stations for identifying mobile units, immediately change the frequency

The terminal can use 3 frequency bands of 5.2 GHz band (W52), 5.3
GHz band (W53), 5.6 GHz band (W56).
• 5.2 GHz band (W52/36, 40, 44, 48ch)
• 5.3GHz band (W53/52, 56, 60, 64ch)
• 5.6 GHz band (W56/100, 104, 108, 112, 116, 120, 124, 128, 132,
136, 140, 144ch)
Using the 5.2 GHz band/5.3 GHz band wireless LAN outdoors is
prohibited by Law (except when communicating with access point of 5.2
GHz high-output data communication system or relay station).

■ FeliCa and NFC reader/writer, P2P function of the terminal uses
weak waves requiring no licenses for radio stations.
■ It uses 13.56 MHz frequency band. When someone uses other
FeliCa and NFC reader/writer, P2P function in your surroundings,
keep the terminal away su󱐰ciently from them.
Before using the reader/ writer, conrm that there are no radio
stations using the same frequency band nearby.
■ For use in an aircraft, contact the airline beforehand. In some
countries, use may be restricted.

■ Do not apply excessive force to the SIM ejection tool when using

■ Do not deform the terminal. Using an altered device is a violation
of the Radio Law/Telecommunications Business Act.
The terminal is compliant with rules on the technical standard
conformance of specied wireless equipment based on the Radio Law/
Telecommunications Business Act. As proof of this, the "Technical
Compliance Mark " is depicted in the electronic faceplate. The
electronic faceplate can be conrmed by operating this terminal as
follows.
From the Home screen, → "Settings" → "About phone" → "Regulatory

If you remove the screws and alter the inside of the terminal, the
technical regulations compliance certication becomes invalid. Do not
use the terminal with the certication invalid, as it is a violation of the
Radio Law and Telecommunications Business Act.
■ Be careful when using the terminal while driving.
Except for situations which are stipulated as per laws and regulations,
the looking at the terminal's screen, or the holding of the terminal in
one's hands and conversing while driving shall be subject to penalty.
■ FeliCa and NFC reader/writer function of the terminal complies
with the wireless standards in Japan.
When using overseas, conrm in advance the stipulations of the
laws and regulations of the nation/region.
■ Do not modify the basic software illegally.
It may be regarded as modications and repair may be refused.

The terminal provides waterproofness of IPX5*1, IPX8*2 and
dustproofness of IP6X*3 with rmly attaching the docomo nanoUIM
card/microSD memory card slot.
*1 IPX5 means that a phone keeps functioning after applying a jet ow
of 12.5 L/min. from every direction from a distance of approximately 3
m for at least 3 minutes using water nozzle in 6.3 mm inner diameter.
*2 IPX8 means that a communication device keeps functioning after a
phone is slowly submerged to depth of 1.5 m in static tap water at
ordinary temperatures, left there for 30 minutes and then taken out.
*3 IP6X means a protection degree that dust cannot come in to that do
inside of phone and a phone maintains safety after it is placed in a
phone with dust in diameter 75 μm or less for 8 hours, agitated and
then taken out.

■ You can talk without an umbrella in the rain (for rainfall of 20 mm
or less per hour).
■ The terminal can be washed with tap water at ordinary
temperatures.
• Do not apply water ow stronger than allowed (P.18).
• Do not use brush, sponge, soap, detergent, etc.
• If mud or soil is adhered to the terminal, eliminate the dirt rst by
shaking several times in tap water of wash-basin and then wash the
terminal with running water.
• Drain water in the specied steps (P.19) after washing.
• Do not wash rubbing strongly.

■ To avoid water/dust ingress, be sure to observe the following
points.
• Do not apply liquids except for tap water at ordinary temperatures.
• Do not poke mouthpiece/microphone, receiver, speaker, USB Type-C
connection jack, headphone connection jack with a sharp object.
• Do not let the terminal fall. It may become scratched causing the
waterproof/dustproof performance to degrade.
• Make sure that the docomo nanoUIM card/microSD card tray is tightly
closed. Even a ne debris (a piece of hair, a grain of sand, ne ber,
etc.) between contact surfaces may allow water or dust to enter the
interior of the terminal.
To keep the terminal waterproofness/dustproofness, replacement
of parts is required every 2 years regardless of whether the terminal
appears normal or abnormal. DOCOMO takes the terminal to replace the
parts as a chargeable service. Bring the terminal to a sales outlet such
as a DOCOMO-specied repair o󱐰ce.
