1You can access WAP straight from the main
menu when you first turn your phone on by
pressing . This will launch WAP
according to your settings. Alternatively,
follow the steps below.
2Press under Menu then or until
you see WAP Browser.

Multi Media. If a connection is not made the
first time, press Retry.

before you start

inserting the SIM Card
1To remove the back cover, pull the
grey button at
the top of the
phone in the
direction
indicated by the
arrow. The cover
will spring away
from the phone
and you can
remove it.
2Pull back the
plastic catch of
the SIM Card
holder, Slide the SIM Card into the slot
so that it slips beneath the plastic
teeth, cut-off corner side first. The gold
contacts should be facing down.
Release the catch to hold the SIM
Card in place.
Note: If you need to remove your SIM
Card, always turn your phone off first.
about the SIM Card
Look for the plastic card that came in
your phone’s box. If there is no SIM Card
in your box, it may have already been
inserted into your phone. If there isn’t one
in your phone or your phone’s box,
contact your stockist or call Orange
Customer Services on 07973 100 150 or,
if you are a pay-as-you-go customer, on
07973 100 451.

You will see a small number written on
the SIM Card next to the golden
contacts. Write down the number in the
box on page 1.4. The first six numbers
have already been completed. If your
phone is not already registered, you'll
need this number when you call Orange
to register. This number is also on the
outside of the box.

Remove the
SIM Card from its
plastic surround by
carefully pushing it
out. The SIM Card’s
contacts are easily
damaged so take care when doing this
and try to avoid touching the golden
contacts.

The SIM Card (or Subscriber Identity Module) is a computer chip containing
information about your phone and subscription.

Note: Rechargeable batteries have a
limited lifespan and Orange recommend
that you purchase a new one every year.
Call the Orange Accessory Hotline on
0500 178 178 for up-to-date prices or to
order accessories for your phone.
talk time and standby time
Your phone comes with a slim battery
and a large battery. The slim battery
gives up to 2 hours of talk time and up to
40 hours of standby time under optimum
conditions. The large battery gives up to
3 hours of talk time and 25 hours of
standby time. When the battery is
running low, the words Low Battery will
be displayed and you will hear two
double ‘beeps’ indicating that only a few
minutes of talk time are left. When the
battery is completely discharged your
phone will turn off.

the bottom of the phone.
3Push the top of the cover in, lifting the
grey button at the top of the phone as
you do so.
4Release the button, which holds the
back cover closed.
charging the battery
The first charge must be for a minimum
of 16 hours in order to achieve optimum
performance. Subsequent charges
should be for 4 hours if the battery is
completely flat. You can make calls whilst
charging as long as you have registered
your phone with Orange. See page 1.5.
1Plug your charger into a mains socket.
The phone can be charged when it is
switched on or off.
2Insert the other end of the lead into
the bottom of your phone. The battery
symbol on the display will start to
pulsate to show it’s charging if the
phone is switched on. If the phone is
switched off, the battery symbol
pulsates when charging begins. The
first time you plug in the charger and
switch it on the battery indicator may
take a few seconds to show. The
phone and charger may become
warm when the battery is charging,
this is normal and is not cause for
concern.

Please call Orange Customer Services on
150 from your Orange phone or
07973 100 150 from any other phone
before you make any other calls. This only
applies if your phone was not registered at
the time you bought it.

This is given to you either when you buy
your phone or when you call to register.
SIM update
When your phone is registered you will
receive one or more SIM updates. They
will arrive as text messages and SIM
update will show on the display.
acknowledging and deleting your
SIM update
Treat the SIM update as you would any
other text message you might receive on
your phone.
1When a message arrives you will hear
a tone and see the symbol and
the words New Message (1).
2Press under View twice. Press
under Options. Delete will be
highlighted. Press under OK. You
will see the message Confirm
Deletion? Press under Yes.
3Press and hold the Ckey to return to
the main display.
4You should turn your phone off and
back on again. This will enable you to
make your first call.

When you apply to register on the Orange
Network, you and Orange agree to be
bound by the Orange terms and
conditions set out in this user guide.
Please take time to read and consider
them before you register.
registering your Orange phone
Switch on your phone by pressing and
holding the key. During your first
call to Orange Customer Services you
will be asked for the following
information:
1The 15-digit serial number - or IMEI
number which is on the back of your
phone underneath the battery.
IMEI number / Serial number
2The SIM Card number. This is on the
SIM Card itself.
SIM Card number
3A password for security purposes - for
example your mother’s maiden name.
4Your address including the postcode.
5If you are connecting to pay-as-you-
go, you will also need a four digit
identity code of your choice - if you
ever need to call Customer Services,
you will be asked for this, so please
keep it handy or memorise it.
Pay as you go customers
Please call 0800 079 0006 from any
other phone to register your Orange
phone and be credited with the free talk
time, applicable on registration.

Familiarise yourself with the most common symbols that appear on your phone’s
display.

called
You can redial the last number dialled by
pressing the key twice. If you press
the key once, you will see a list of the
last 10 numbers you dialled.
Use the or keys to scroll through
the entries. When you come to one you
wish to dial, press .
Press Cto return to the main display.
changing the earpiece volume
The earpiece volume can be adjusted
while you are in an active call.
1When you press the volume buttons on
the side of the phone the display will
show the volume level.
2Press the buttons to increase or
decrease the volume.

1Open the flip to reveal your keys and
screen.

the key for more than one second.
The display will light up and show
Welcome to Orange, the Samsung
logo and then the Orange logo.
3Key in the number you want to call.
Always use the full area code, even if
the number is in your area.
4Press the Ckey to cancel a number if
you make a mistake.
5Press the key to call the number.
ending a call
Press the key, for a short time. To
switch your phone off press and hold the
key for a couple of seconds.
using your personal handsfree kit
Your Orange phone is supplied with a
personal handsfree kit, leaving your
hands free to get on with other things.
The headset connects into the socket,
under the rubber dust cover, on the side
of the phone. See the picture on the
inside front cover for details.
When using the headset, ensure that you
have the earpiece in your ear.
■ To answer an incoming call:
Press or press the button on the
cable of the handsfree kit.
■ To end a call:
Press the key or press the button
on the cable of the handsfree kit.
■ To busy an incoming call:.
Press the soft key under Reject.
■ To dial the last number called:
Press the button on the cable of the
handsfree kit.

Once you’ve registered with Orange, you can keep in touch with the people you
choose, when you choose. You can use your phone while it is charging.

using Call Waiting
(not available to pay-as-you-go
customers)
If you receive a second call when you are
on the phone, you will hear a double
beep to let you know you have a call
waiting.
To accept the waiting call press and
your first call will automatically be put on
hold The display shows which call you
are on. You can swap between calls as
often as you wish by pressing the soft
key under Swap. To end a held call
press the soft key under Options
and select the End Held Call option. To
end the current call, press the key.
putting a call on hold
(not available to pay-as-you-go
customers)
During a call you may wish to speak
privately to someone else or make a
second call. You can do this by putting
the call on hold.
1To put an active call on hold, press the
soft key under Hold. This will
place the active call on hold.
2To reconnect the call, press under
Unhold.

answering a call
When your phone rings, open the flip
and press either the key, or the soft
key under Accept, to answer the
call.
To end a call press the key.
busy a call
If you don’t want to answer a call, you
can divert it to your Answer Phone using
the busy feature.
1Press the soft key under Reject or
press the key. This will divert the
incoming call to your Answer Phone so
you can listen to the message at a
more convenient time.
Caller id
When your phone rings, your caller’s
number will be displayed if it is available
from their network. If you have stored
their name and number in your
Phonebook, their name will be displayed
instead.
In the same way, your phone number will
be sent to the people you call. If you
want to withhold your number, simply
key 141 before the number you call or:
1Press the soft key under Menu.
2Press either the or until you
see Phone Settings and press
under Select.
3Press either the or until you see
Caller ID and press under Select.
4Press the until Hide Number is
highlighted then press under
Select. Your number will be withheld
from other people when you call them.
If you choose Default, your number will
be displayed on the display of the
person you are calling unless you have
asked Orange to permanently withhold
your number.
If you want your number to be
permanently withheld, write to Customer
Services at the address shown on the
back cover of this guide. This will also
stop you from receiving other people’s
Caller id.

Answer Phone and listen to it later.

explore the menu map
Use this map to find the key features on your Orange phone.
scrolling through the menus
1After switching your phone on, press
the soft key under Phone, then
again under Menu, and you will see
Information. This is one of the top
level menu headings, there are several
others. Press to move down
or to move up through the other
menu headings.
Call Records
Messages etc.
The menus are arranged in a loop, so
you return back to Information.
2To move down to the second level of
the menu structure go to any of the
headings eg: Phone Settings then
press under Select or to
select the option displayed. You will
see Infrared Activate. This is one of
the second level menu headings.
Press the key to move down
through the other second level menu
headings. Press Cor to go back
to the previous level. There are several
other levels.
exiting menus
To move back one level at a time press
the Ckey. Press and hold the Ckey to
return to the main menu display.
menu shortcuts
To move quickly through the menus, you
can press under Menu followed by
the reference number for the menu you
want. For example, the reference number
for Dialled Call is 1-3. This is because
Dialled Calls is the third submenu (3) of
top level menu number 1, Call Records.
You must press just the number keys in
quick succession to use menu
shortcuts.
The menu shortcuts will vary depending
on your service plan. In this guide,
shortcuts for pay-as-you-go customers
will appear in brackets where they vary
from shortcuts for other service plans.

would prefer to scroll through your
entire Phonebook, do not enter any
letters and press under Search.

2 Either enter the name of the person
you are looking for or just press
under Search. Use either the
or keys to scroll through the list until
you have highlighted the entry you wish
to change.
3Press under View which displays
the details of the entry.
4Press under Options, use either
the or keys to select Edit. Alter
the name by deleting characters or
numbers using the Ckey, then enter
new ones. Select OK and you will be
given the opportunity to alter the
number.
5When you have completed all of your
changes, select Save.
deleting a name or number
1In the main display, press under
Name.
2 Either enter the name of the person
you are looking for or just press
under Search. Use either the
or keys to scroll through the list until
you have highlighted the entry you wish
to change.
3Press under View which displays
the details of the entry.
4Press under Options and use
either the or keys to select
Erase. You will see Sure to erase?
and the record name. Select Yes to
erase or Cancel if you have changed
your mind.
5If you select Yes, you will see the
message, Entry Erased.

use your Phonebook
how many names and numbers
you can store
You can store up to 90 names and
numbers on your SIM Card and up to 99
on your phone’s internal memory. The
advantage of saving them to your SIM
Card memory is that you can easily
remove all your stored information and
insert it in another phone at a later date.
(You can however copy numbers from the
phone’s memory to your SIM Card as
described later in the section below).
storing a name and number
1Key in the phone number to be stored,
including the full area code. If you press
and hold the 0+ key, then add the
country code before the local area
code (take out the zero of the local
area code), you can then use the
number when calling from abroad.
When you have finished, press the soft
key under Save.
2 Under Enter Name start adding the
name. Press each key the relevant
number of times to get the letter you
need. For example, the letter Jis
produced by pressing the 5key once.
The letter Sis produced by pressing the
7key four times. If you make a mistake,
press the Ckey to delete a letter.
To change from upper case to lower
case or numbers only, press under
. When you have finished,
press under OK.
3The phone allocates a location number
on the SIM Card, to save to the SIM
Card press under OK. To change
from card to phone memory press
under To Phone, and then press
under OK to save.
To call the number press or press
to return to the main display.

Phonebook
1In the main display, press under
Name.
2 You will be asked to enter the name of
the person you are looking for.
Generally, it is only necessary to enter
the first one or two letters using the

Your Orange phone can store the names and numbers of your friends, family and
colleagues in its Phonebook. So you can call them whenever you want to.

what happens when you get a
message?
When someone leaves a message on
your Answer Phone, the symbol will
appear on your phone’s display along
with the message New Voice Mail and
you will hear a tone. This symbol will
remain until the message has been saved
or deleted. Answer Phone messages that
have not been listened to will be saved
for up to 21 days.

To listen to your Answer Phone
messages, select Dial when the
message first arrives, or press and hold
the 1key. Listen to the simple steps to
save, listen to or delete messages. You
can save messages that you have
listened to for up to seven days.
Answer Phone shortcuts
Orange Answer Phone is quick to use as
there are several single key presses to
help you move through your messages
quickly, enabling you to rewind, fast
forward, skip to the next message and
even return the call without needing to
know the number of the person who
called.
When listening to your messages press:
7 to rewind ten seconds.
8 to skip to the next message
9 to fast forward ten seconds.

Your Orange Answer Phone is always there to take messages for you when you don’t
answer a call, when your phone is off, or if you are outside the Orange service area.

Your Answer Phone comes with a
standard greeting but you can record
your own personal greeting so your
callers know they’ve got through to you.
Call your Answer Phone by pressing and
holding the 1key.
1 Listen to the simple steps and select
option 3, then option 1.
2Record your greeting followed by the #
key.
3 Press 1to save it.
setting up an Answer Phone PIN
To enable you to call from any other
phone and for added security when
calling from your Orange phone, you can
set up a PIN. To do this:
1 Call your Answer Phone by pressing
and holding the 1key.
2 Select option 3, then option 2.
3 Enter your chosen Answer Phone PIN
which should be between 4and 10
digits, followed by the #key.
4 Press 1to save your Answer Phone
PIN.
listening to your messages from
any other phone
This is ideal if you’ve left your phone at
home or if your battery has run out. You’ll
need to have already set up your Answer
Phone PIN. Please refer to the section
above for more details of how to do this.
1 Call 07973 100 123 from any phone.
2Enter your Orange number followed

4Follow the simple steps to listen to

choosing how to send your text
message
You can swap between numbers and
upper and lower case, by pressing the
soft key under while you're
writing a text message. The highlighted
symbol at the bottom of the phone's
display will change depending on which
you have chosen.
sending a text message
1Press under Menu, then and
you will see Messages. Press
under Select and scroll down using
to Write Messages.
2Press under Select and you will
see a blank screen with a flashing
cursor. You will see at the bottom of
the screen. This signifies that you are
ready to input your message using
upper case text input.
3Press each key the relevant number of
times to get the letter you need. For
example, to get the letter Jpress the 5
key once and to get S, press the 7key
four times.
4 To change from upper to lower case or
numeric press the soft key under
. Press the Ckey to delete a
character. Press the or keys to
move the cursor forward or back in a
line of text and the or keys to
move the cursor up and down. Press 1
to create a space.
5Press under OK when you have
entered your message.
6If you just want to save the message,
press to Save Only, then
under Select, you will see on the
screen Saving Message and then
Saved. You can read your unsent
message in your outbox.
7If you want to send the message
press to Send Only, then
under Select, you will see on the
screen Destination key in the number
you want to send the message to, or
press under Name to scroll
through your Phonebook.
8When you have entered the number,
press under OK and again under
Setting 1, and you will see Message
sent on the display.

send a text message
Text Messaging is an easy and fun way to keep in touch when a phone call is
inappropriate - perhaps late at night, when you’re on a train or in a meeting.

9You can save and send the message
by pressing to Save and Send,
then under Select. You will see
Destination on the screen. Enter the
number of the person you are sending
the message to, or press under
Name to choose a name from your
Phonebook.
10 Press under OK . Press under
Select.Message sent will appear on
the display. You can read your sent
message in your outbox.
Note: You may receive a Failed text
message on your display. This means
that although Orange has successfully
sent your message, the recipient has
been unable to receive it. You should
either try to resend it, or make a call
instead.
confirming receipt of a sent text
message
When sending an important text message
to another mobile phone, add RCT on to
the beginning of the first word of your
message, without leaving a space
between. This requests a confirmation text
message to be sent back to your phone
when the text message is delivered.
punctuating your text message
All these characters and symbols can be
added to your text message by pressing
each key the appropriate number of times.

3Select 1 Edit to write the message you
want to save as a template in the the
Message 1: position. Press under
OK to save the template. Message
Saved will be displayed.
4 Use the previous three options to send,
edit and delete Message 1:
Press Ckey to return to Preset
Message list. Use the or keys
to scroll through the list of templates
and create new ones. The template
position and the beginning of a saved
template will be displayed to make
viewing templates easy.

keep your messages short.

4Press under View when you have
highlighted the saved message you
wish to send. The contents of the

When you are finished, select OK, and

message templates
Your phone has space for you to create
and save five message templates. The
templates can be used when you are in a
situation where you cannot type out a
whole message, when you are in a hurry
or when you send the same message
several times.
To create a template:
1Use the menu shortcut 2-3. to
Select Preset Message List.
Message 1: (Empty) will be displayed
2 Select under Options. You are
then given three options:
■ Edit 1
Allows you to write a new message
or edit the preset message.
■ Send a Message
Allows you to recall the selected
message. You will then have the
further option of Sending, Saving
and Sending or simply Saving it.

receiving a text message
When a message arrives you will hear a
tone (depending on your settings) and
see the symbol and the words New
Message (1).
reading a text message
1When a message is received,
press under View to read it straight
away.
2If you do not want to read the
message immediately, select Exit. You
will be returned to the main display and
the symbol will be displayed.
3When you are ready to read your
messages use the menu shortcut
2-1-1 for your Inbox.
4Use the or keys to scroll
through your message list.
5Press under View to read the
contents of the message
6Unread messages will always appear at
the top of your message list. Those
that have been read are towards the
bottom. Your messages are stored in a
looped list, so when you get to the
bottom, you are returned to the top.
7Use the same keys to scroll through
other messages.
managing your text messages
When you have read a text message,
there are a number of options available
to you.
1After reading your message, press
under Options.
2Then use the or keys to select
from the following options:
■Delete
To erase the selected message from
your phone’s memory.
■ Text Reply
To send a reply message to the
sender of the currently selected
message.
■ Call Back
Allows you to call the sender of the
message.
■ Cut Number
Allows you to save the number to
your Phonebook or call the number.
