Key Functions
Key Functions
1. Earpiece lets you hear the caller’s voice.
2. Main LCD (display) displays the phone’s main menu, features, modes, etc.
3. Side Up/Down Key allows you to adjust the ringer volume in standby mode (with the phone
open) or adjust the voice volume during a call. Press and hold to make a voice dial or redial
with the phone closed.
4. Navigation key lets you navigate quickly and easily through the menu options and access
the shortcut menus.
5. Charger Jack connects the phone to the phone charger.
6. Left Softkey lets you select the menu corresponding to the bottom left line on the Main LCD.
7. MENU/OK Key lets you access the phone’s menus and select menu options.
8. Camera Key lets you access the Pictures menu and take pictures
9. TALK Key lets you place or receive calls, answer Call Waiting, or use Three-Way Calling
and Voice Dial.
10. SPEAKER Key lets you place or receive calls in speakerphone mode.
11. Internal Antenna facilitates reception and transmission. To maximize performance, do not
touch while using the phone.
12. Microphone to speak into or record your voice.
13. Keypad lets you enter numbers, letters, and characters, and navigate within menus. Press
and hold keys 2-9 for speed dialing.
14. END/POWER Key lets you turn the phone on/off, end a call, or return to standby mode.
15. BACK Key lets you clear characters from the screen or display the previous page.
16. Headset Jack lets you insert the plug of a headset (sold separately) for hands-free phone
use.
17. Right Softkey lets you select the menu corresponding to the bottom right line on the Main
LCD.
18. microSD Card Slot lets you use the microSD card to expand the memory of your phone.
19. Side Camera Key lets you activate the camera mode and take pictures.
20. Camera Lens The built-in camera lens lets you take pictures.
21. LED Indicator shows your phone’s connection status at a glance.
22. Sub LCD lets you monitor the phone’s status and see who’s calling without opening the
phone.
23. Speaker allows you hands-free conversation while in speakerphone mode.
24. Battery powers your phone (Lithium-Ion battery included).

Viewing the Display Screen
This list identifies some of the more common symbols you’ll see on your display screen.
• shows your current signal strength. The more lines you have, the stronger your signal.
• means your phone cannot find a signal.
• tells you a call is in progress.
• indicates the Vision services is dormant.
• Indicates the Vision services is active.
• indicates the Vision services is disabled.
• indicates the phone is on another service provider’s network.
• indicates you have missed voice calls.
• indicates you have schedule event and call alarm notifications.
• indicates you have messages waiting.
• shows the level of your battery charge. The more black you see, the more power you
have left.
• indicates the vibrate feature is set.
• indicates the voice call ringer setting is off.
• indicates the Location Service of your phone is enabled.
• indicates the Location Service of your phone is disabled.
• indicates you have new caller’s message.
• indicates the Screen Call Auto setting is on.
• indicates TTY mode is set to on when you connect TTY devices.
• indicates the alarm clock is set to on.
• indicates the speakerphone mode is set to on.
• indicates headset is connected.
• indicates the Bluetooth feature is active.

Softkeys
You can select the menus, which are described at the bottom line of the display by pressing the
corresponding softkeys (left/right). In this User Manual, the explanation for selecting such
menus are as shown below:
• Press Contacts (right softkey).
Turning Your Phone On and Off
Turning Your Phone On:
To turn your phone on, press END/ .
Once your phone is On, it displays “Looking for service...”, indicating that your phone is
searching for a signal. When your phone finds a signal, it automatically enters standby mode
–the phone’s idle state. At this point, you are ready to begin making and receiving calls. If your
phone is unable to find a signal after 15 minutes of searching, a Power Save feature is
automatically activated. When a signal is found, your phone automatically returns to standby
mode.
In power save mode, your phone searches for a signal periodically without your intervention.
You can also initiate a search for PCS Service by pressing any key (when your phone is turned
on).
Tip: The Power Save feature helps to conserve your battery power when you are in an area
where there is no signal.
Turning Your Phone Off:
Press and hold END/ for two seconds until you see the powering down animation on the display
screen. Your screen remains blank while your phone is off (unless the battery is charging).
Unlocking the Phone
1. Press END/ to turn the phone on.
2. Press Unlock (left softkey).
3. Enter your four-digit lock code. For security purposes, the code is not visible as you type.
Using the Battery
Installing the Battery
To install the Li-Ion battery:
-To install, insert the battery into the opening on the back of the phone and gently press down
until the latch snaps into place.
Removing the Battery
To remove your battery:
1. Make sure the power is off so that you don’t lose any stored numbers or messages.
2. Push up on the battery release latch and lift the battery up and away from the phone.

Charging the Battery
Your PCS Phone comes with a rechargeable battery. You should charge the battery as soon as
possible so you can begin using your phone.
Keeping track of your battery’s charge is important. If your battery level becomes too low, your
phone automatically turns off and you’ll lose all the information you were just working on. For a
quick check of your phone’s battery level, glance at the battery charge indicator located in the
upper-right corner of your phone’s display screen. If the battery charge gets too low, the battery
icon appears and the phone sounds a warning tone.
Always use a recommended Travel Charger or Vehicle Power Adapter to charge your battery.
Warning! Using the wrong battery charger could cause damage to your phone and void the
warranty.
Using the Travel Charger
To use the travel charger provided with your phone:
1. Plug the travel charger into a wall outlet.
2. Plug the other end into the travel charger into the charger jack on the side of your phone
(with the battery installed).
• Charging when your phone is turned on:
The battery icon animates while charging.
The battery icon turns to when charging is complete.
• Charging when your phone is turned off:
The battery icon appears, and the message “BATTERY CHARGING --Power
Off--” is shown on the display while charging. When the battery is completely
discharged, you may wait for several minutes until the message is shown on the
display. The battery icon turns to , and message changes to “CHARGING
COMPLETE --Power Off--” when charging is complete.
Displaying Your Phone Number
To display your phone number:
• Press MENU/OK > Contacts > My Name Card.
Note: To access the phone’s main menu, press MENU/OK from standby mode. Menu items
may be selected by highlighting them with the navigation key and pressing MENU/OK, or you
can press the number corresponding to the menu item on your keypad.

Making and Answering Calls
Making Calls
1. Make sure your phone is on.
2. Enter a phone number. (If you make a mistake while dialing, press BACK to erase one digit
at a time. Press and hold BACK to erase the entire number.)
3. Press TALK. (To make a call when you are roaming and Call Guard is enabled, press
Options (right softkey) > Roam Call or Roam:Speaker On.) When you’re finished, press
END/ to end the call.
Dialing Options
Dialing options are displayed when you press Options (right softkey) after entering numbers in
the standby mode.
To select an option, select it and press MENU/OK.
• Abbrev. Dial to dial the phone number in your Contacts that ends with the four digits you
enter. (See “Using Abbreviated Dialing” on page 14.)
• Call to dial the phone number. (If you are roaming and have the Call Guard feature
activated, you need take extra step. See page 31 for setting Call Guard.)
• Call:Speaker On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode.(If you are roaming and
have the Call Guard feature activated, you need take extra step. See page 31 for setting
Call Guard.)
• Send Message to send a text message, an SMS Voice message, or Picture Mail.
• Save Phone# to save the phone number in your Contacts Directory. (See “Saving a Phone
Number” on page 13.)
• Find to display Contacts entries that end with the digits you enter. (See “Finding a Phone
Number” on page 13.)
• PHard Pause to insert a hard pause. (See “Dialing and Saving Phone Numbers With
Pauses” on page 13.)
• T2-Sec. Pause to insert a 2-second pause. (See “Dialing and Saving Phone Numbers
With Pauses” on page 13.)
• Hyphen to insert a hyphen manually where you like, however they are mainly for show.
(See “Dialing and Saving Phone Numbers With Pauses” on page 13.)
Tip: To speed dial a phone number from the standby mode, press and hold appropriate
speed dial key locations 2-9. See page 36 for setting.
This option appears when you press after entering 4-digit and press MENU/OK.
Answering Calls
1. Make sure your phone is on. If your phone is off, incoming calls go to voicemail.
2. When your phone rings, press TALK or SPEAKER.
3. To disconnect the call, press END/.
Depending on your settings, your PCS Phone notifies you of incoming calls in the following
ways:
• The phone rings and/or vibrates.

• The LED flashes.
• The backlight illuminates.
• The screen displays an incoming call message.
• If available, the phone number of the caller is displayed.
• If the phone number is in your Contacts list, the Contacts entry’s name is displayed.
• The picture is displayed when you have set the downloaded picture to “Incoming Calls”.
The following options are also displayed by pressing Options (right softkey). To select an option,
highlight it and press MENU/OK.
• Call Guard to answer the call when you are in roaming. (This feature appears when you
are in digital area and analog service area.) See page 31 for setting Call Guard.
• Answer to answer the call.
• Answer:Speaker to answer the call in speakerphone mode.
• Answer on Hold to put the call on hold.
• Screen Call to answer the call by using pre-recorded announcement. (This feature
appears when you are in Service area or digital roaming area.) See page 42 for setting up.
• Quiet Ringer to mute the ringer. (This feature appears when the ringer is set.)
To answer a call when you are roaming and Call Guard is enabled, you must press Options
(right softkey), select Answer or Answer:Speaker and press MENU/OK to answer the call.
See page 31 for setting Call Guard.
Note: If your phone is off, the incoming calls go to voicemail.
Using the Speakerphone
The speakerphone feature lets you hear audio through the speaker and talk without holding the
phone. When the speakerphone is activated, use the Side Up/Down key to adjust the volume.
To turn the speakerphone on during a call:
Press SPEAKER.
-or-
Press Options (right softkey) > Speaker On.
To turn the speakerphone off during a call:
Press SPEAKER.
-or-
Press Options (right softkey) > Speaker Off.
Changing the Ringer Volume
To change the ringer volume, adjust the Side Up/Down key when the phone is open in standby
mode.
Note: To change the ringer volume from the main menu, see “Adjusting the Phone’s Ringer
Volume ” on page 19
Adjusting Volume During a Conversation
Whether you need to hear more or less of a conversation, adjust the Side Up/Down key, or

press the navigation key up or down during a call.
Missed Call Notification
When an incoming call is not answered, the Missed Call log is displayed on your screen.
To display the Missed Call entry:
Select MENU/OK > Missed Alerts.
To call the entry:
Highlight the entry you want to call and press TALK .
Calling Emergency Numbers
You can place calls to 911 (dial 9 1 1 and press TALK), even if your phone is locked or your
account is restricted. Once the dial is made, you will enter Emergency mode. The phone tries to
dial to 911 automatically until the dial will be connected. While you are in the Emergency mode,
all phone calls can be received.
To exit from the Emergency mode, follow these instructions:
1. Press END/ .
2. Press Options > Exit Emergency.
In-Call Options
During a call, your phone displays menu options by pressing Options (right softkey). To select
an option, highlight it and press MENU/OK.
• Flash to answer an incoming Call Waiting call or connect a third party during Three-Way
Calling.
• Mute or Unmute to mute or reactivate your phone’s microphone.
• Transfer Audio to switch the call to your desired device(if applicable).
• Speaker On or Speaker Off to route the phone’s audio through the speaker. You can
adjust the speakerphone volume using the Side Up/Down key.
• Three- Way Call to call a third party.
• Missed Alerts to display missed notifications.
• Call History to access the Cal History menu. (See “Managing Call History” on page 33.)
• Contacts to access the Contacts menu. (See “Using the Contacts Directory” on page 35.)
• Messaging to access the Messaging menu.
• Tools to access the Tools menu.
• Settings to access the Settings menu. (See “Controlling Your Phone’s Settings” on page
18.)
Note: The Flash menu appears only for Call Waiting and Three-Way Calling. The Mute menu
does not appear during a 911 call. The Three-Way Call Menu does not appear in Roaming
areas.
End-of-Call Options
To display the following options, press Options (right softkey) within 10 seconds after
disconnecting a call.

To select an option, highlight it and press MENU/OK.
・Call Again to dial the phone number.
・Call: Speaker On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode.
・ Send Message to send a Text, Picture Mail, or Voice message.
・ Save Phone# to save the phone number in your Contacts. Go to Phone Book appears
when the number is already in your Contacts. (See “Saving a Phone Number” below.)
・ Rename to change the current entry’s name to Caller ID name (if applicable).
Note: The End-of-Call options are not displayed for calls identified as No Caller ID or Restricted.
Saving a Phone Number
Your PCS Phone can store a total of 700 phone numbers in 500 Contacts entries. Each entry
can store 7 phone numbers, and the entry’s name can contain 32 characters. Your phone
automatically sorts the Contacts entries alphabetically.
To save a number from the main menu:
1. Enter a phone number.
2. Press Options (right softkey) > Save Phone#.
3. Select the following entry modes:
• New Name to enter a name directly.
• From Ph. Book to select a name from Contacts entry list
(This step is not necessary on the very first entry in Contacts.)
4. Select a label and press MENU/OK.
5. Enter a name for the new entry using the keypad and press MENU/OK.
– or –
Search for an existing contact name and press MENU/OK to save the new number.
6. Select Save (left softkey) to save the entry.
After you have saved the number, the new Contacts entry is displayed. (See “Contacts List
Entry Options” on page 35).
Finding a Phone Number
You can search Contacts entries for phone numbers that contain a specific string of numbers.
To find a phone number:
1. Enter the last four or more digits of the number. The more numbers you enter, the more
specific the search becomes.
2. Press Options (right softkey) > Find. (The Contacts entry that ends with the digits you
entered appears.)
3. To display the Contacts entry that contains the phone number you entered, highlight the
entry and press MENU/OK. To dial the number, press TALK.
Dialing and Saving Phone Numbers With Pauses
You can dial or save phone numbers with pauses for use with automated systems, such as
voicemail or credit card billing numbers. If you select a hard pause, the next set of numbers is
sent when you press TALK. If you select a 2-second pause, your phone automatically sends the

next set of numbers after two seconds.
Note: You can have multiple pauses in a phone number and combine 2-second and hard
pauses.
To dial or save phone numbers with pauses:
1. Enter the phone number and press Options (right softkey).
2. Select either Hard Pause or 2-Sec. Pause. Hard Pauses are displayed as a “P” and
2-second pauses as a “T”.
3. Enter additional numbers.
4. To dial the number, press TALK . (When dialing a number with a hard pause, press TALK
to send the next set of numbers.)
or -
To save the number in your Contacts list, press Options (right softkey) > Save Phone#,.
Using Abbreviated Dialing
Abbreviated Dialing is similar to speed dialing. You can use either of the following abbreviated
dialing features.
Ph.Book Match allows you to retrieve any number saved in your Contacts by entering only
the last three to six digits of the number, and automatically dials the retrieved number. (See
“To activate the Ph. Book Match feature”on page 26.)
Prepend allows you to prepend predefined numbers (first five or six digits) to the last four
or five digits you enter, and then automatically dials the number. (See page 26 to register a
prepend number and activate the Prepend feature.)
To place a call using Ph.Book Match Abbreviated Dialing:
1. Enter the last three to six digits of a Contacts entry’s phone number.
2. Press TALK. If there is more than one matched number in your Contacts, the Abbrev. Dial list
is displayed.
3. Select the name you want to call from the list, and then press TALK to place a call.
Note: When Ph.Book Match is set to On and a number is saved in your Contacts (regardless
of whether Prepend is set to On or Off), you can display the number by entering its last three to
six digits.
To place a call using Prepend Abbreviated Dialing:
1. Enter the last four or five digits of the number.
2. Press TALK.
Note: When Prepend is set to On and Ph.Book Match is set to Off, you can display the
10-digit number (including the predefined prepend number) by entering the last four or five digits
of the number.
Note: The Prepend feature is available when all of following conditions are met:
• Prepend is set to On.
•Aprepend number has been predefined.
•The combined total (prepend number plus the digits you enter) is 10 digits.
Note: When both Ph.Book Match and Off are set to On and a number is not saved in

Contacts, you can display the 10-digit number (including the five- or six-digit prepend number)
by entering the last four or fivedigits of the number.
Dialing From the Contacts Directory
1. Select MENU/OK > Contacts > Find/Add Entry.
Shortcut: From standby mode, select Contacts (right softkey) to display the Contacts list.
2. Use your navigation key to scroll through the Contacts list, highlight your desired entry, and
press MENU/OK.
3. Highlight the number you want to call.
4. Press Options (right softkey)> Call or Call:Speaker On.
Tip: You can also make a call by pressing TALK during step 4 above.
Using Speed Dialing
With this feature, you can dial your favorite entries using one key press for location 2-9.
To use speed dial for voice calls:
From standby mode, press and hold the appropriate key for approximately two seconds.

From standby mode, press the appropriate key and press TALK.

Entering Text
Selecting a Character Input Mode
Your PCS Phone provides convenient ways to enter words, letters, punctuation, and numbers
whenever you are prompted to enter text (for example, when adding an Contacts List entry).
To change the character input mode:
1. When you display a screen where you can enter text, press Mode (right softkey).
2. To select a character input mode, highlight it and press MENU/OK.
Entering Characters Using T9 Text Input
T9 Text Input lets you enter text in your PCS Phone by pressing keys just once per letter. (To
select the T9 Word mode when entering text, see “Selecting a Character Input Mode” above.)
T9 Text Input analyzes the letters you enter using an intuitive word database and creates a
suitable word. (The word may change as you type.) To accept a word and insert a space, press
Space #.If you make a mistake, press BACK to erase a single character. Press and hold BACK
to delete an entire entry.
Adding a Word to the T9 Database
If a word you want to enter does not display as an option when you are using T9 Text Input, you
can add it to the database.
To add a word to the database:
1. Select the Add Word input mode.
2. Enter the word using multi-tap text entry. (See “Entering Characters by Using Alphabet
Mode” described below.)
3. Press Save (left softkey). The word will appear as an option the next time you scroll
through options during T9 Text Input.
Entering Characters by Using Alphabet Mode
To enter characters by tapping the keypad, select the Alphabet mode (see “Selecting a
Character Input Mode” above). Press the corresponding key until the desired character appears.
By default, the first letter of a word is capitalized and following letters are lowercase.

Entering Numbers, Symbols, Preset Suffix and Smileys
Entering SYMBOLS
To enter symbols:
1. In a text entry field, press Mode (right softkey).
2. Select SYMBOL and press MENU/OK.
3. Select the line that includes your desired symbol.
4. Press the corresponding key (1 ~ 8) with each symbol.

Select your desired symbol by using the navigation key, and press MENU/OK.
Entering NUMBERS
To enter numbers:
1. In a text entry field, press Mode (right softkey).
2. Select NUMBER and press MENU/OK.
3. Press the corresponding numeric key to enter the number.
Shortcut: Press and hold the corresponding number key to enter the number directory in
alphabet mode or T9 mode.
Entering PRESET SUFFIXES
To enter preset suffixes:
1. In a text entry field, press Mode (right softkey).
2. Select PRESET SUFFIX and press MENU/OK.
3. Select your desired word by using the navigation key and press MENU/OK.
Entering SMILEYS
To enter smile pictures (“emoticons”)
1. In a text entry field, press Mode (right softkey).
2. Select SMILEYS
3. Select the line that includes your desired smiley.
4. Press the corresponding key (1~4) with each smiley.

Select your desired smiley by using the navigation key and press MENU/OK.
Tip: When you see triangles on the left and right of the menu, you can press the navigation key
left or right to switch between different input modes.

Sound Settings
Ringer Types
Different ringers help you identify incoming calls, messages, alarms, power-on/off, and
scheduled events.
Selecting Ringers for Incoming Calls
Your PCS Phone provides a variety of ringer options, which allow you to customize your ringer
setting.
To select a ringer for incoming calls:
1. Select MENU/OK > Settings > Sounds > Ringer Type > Incoming Calls.
2. Select the menu under With Caller ID or Without Caller ID.
3. Select Single Tones, Ring Tones, Melodies,Ringer & Voice, My Content (for ringer
only), -Get New, My Content (for video), My Albums, or Assigned Media and press
MENU/OK.
4. Select an available ringer and press MENU/OK.
To select a distinctive ringer for incoming calls while roaming:
1. Select MENU/OK > Settings > Sounds > Ringer Type > Incoming Calls.
2. Select Roaming > Distinctive. (Select Normal to deactivate this feature.)
Selecting a Ringer for Alarms or Scheduled Events
To select a ringer for alarms or scheduled events:
1. Select MENU/OK > Settings > Sounds > Ringer Type.
2. Select Alarm or Schedule.
3. Press MENU/OK, and then select Single Tones, Ring Tones, Melodies,Voice Alarm,
My Content, or -Get New and press MENU/OK.
4. Select an available ringer and press MENU/OK.
Selecting Ringers for Messages
To select a ringer for voicemail, text, SMS Voice or Picture Mail messages:
1. Select MENU/OK > Settings > Sounds > Ringer Type.
2. Select Messages.
3. Select Voicemail, Text Message, VoiceSMS, or Picture Mail.
4. Select Single Tones, Ring Tones, Melodies,Voice Ringer, My Content, or -Get New
and press MENU/OK.
5. Select an available ringer and press MENU/OK.
Setting Keytones
With this feature, you can set keypress tone's type, volume, and length. (Longer tone length
may be better for tone recognition when dialing voicemail or other automated systems.)
1. Select MENU/OK > Settings > Sounds > Keytones.
2. Select an option and press MENU/OK.

Tone Length to select Short or Long.
Tone Volume to select a keypress tone volume
Tone Type to select a keypress tone type.
Setting Power-On/Power-Off Tone
To set Power-On/Power-Off tone:
1. Select MENU/OK > Settings > Sounds > Ringer Type.
2. Select Power-On or Power-Off.
3. Press MENU/OK, and then select Tones, Off, My Content, or -Get New and press
MENU/OK.
4. Select a tone and press MENU/OK.
Setting Up Voice Guide
Voice Guide activates both voice prompt and key press echo functions. With this feature on, you
can hear voice prompts when using Voice-activated dialing, Voice Memo, Screen Call, etc. and
hear a voice say the numbers that you press on the keypad.
Note: The default setting is Off.
Note: When the ringer volume is set to Silence All or Vibrate All, voice prompts cannot be
heard.
Note: The key press echo function is available when you are in standby mode.
To turn Voice Guide on or off:
1. Select MENU/OK > Settings > Sounds > Voice Guide.
2. Select On or Off.
Adjusting the Phone’s Ringer Volume
To adjust the ringer volume:
1. Select MENU/OK > Settings > Sounds > Volume > Ringer.
2. Using your navigation key, select your desired volume level, 1 Beep, Ringer Off, Vibrate
All, or Silence All and press Done (left softkey).
Tip: You can make the ringer vibrate atany volume level by checking the box next to Always
Vibrate.
Tip: You can adjust the ringer volume in standby mode (or the earpiece volume during a call) by
using the Side Volume key on the left side of your phone.
Adjusting the Alert Volume
This setting controls the alert volumes of Alarms, Picture Mail, Text Message, Voicemail, and
VoiceSMS. You can set the alert volume separate from the ringer volume setting.
To set the alerts:
1. Select MENU/OK > Settings > Sounds > Volume > Advanced....
2. Select Alarms,Picture Mail,Text Message,Voicemail, or VoiceSMS.
3. Using the navigation key, select Separate Vol.
4. Press the navigation key right or left to choose a volume level, and select Done (left
softkey).
