This document is intended to assist users of the Uni-M ferrule applicator on setup and minor adjustments when used with Panduit strip form ferrules. The
press used in this example is the UniCrimp 200 with pneumatic kit. Other presses should provide compara le results; however, split cycle function is
required on the press.

Installing the applicator into the press
Mounting
1. Release the ase plate clamping lever (1) y lowering it completely until it comes to a stop.
2. Place the upper ram olt (2) of the applicator into the press ram coupling (3) and lower the
applicator until the ase rests on the ottom ase plate (4). Be sure that the upper ram olt (2)
remains in the ram coupling (3).
3. Lift the clamping lever (1) to lock the applicator into position. Firmly grasp the applicator and try to
move it to ensure it is secure.
4. Remove the red tooling protection ring (5) if it is still installed.
OTE: Be sure to install the protection ring whenever the applicator is
not in use. This part is very important to prevent damage to the tooling
when the applicator is not in use.
Air connection
5. The “Pneum Valve” setting in the interface “Functions” menu should e set to “Off”. Although the applicator requires air, the feed timing is
handled internally in the applicator. Therefore, the pneumatic feed setting should e set to “Off”.
6. Disconnect the main air from the pneumatic valve (6).
7. Insert the 4mm hose into the right output (normally open) side of the pneumatic valve (7).
8. Plug the fitting (8) on the other end of the 4mm hose into the quick connect on the applicator (9).
9. Connect the main air and turn on the pneumatic valve switch (10).
Confirm clearance
10. After the applicator is mounted and efore ferrules are loaded, using the press jog
uttons to jog the press through a few cycles to ensure the tooling is
loaded correctly.
CAUTION
Always verify proper installation by first cycling the press slowly!
To prevent tooling damage, whenever any applicator is loaded into a press, the press should e cycled slowly or
manually to ensure the tooling will not crash.

Verify/set crimp height dials
1. Ensure the top crimp height dial (10) is set properly according to the Index value on the ID plate.
2. Each major increment represents an index value of the num er divided y 10
a. Examples: Dial setting on 8 refers to an index setting of 0.8.
b. Example: Dial setting on 19 refers to an index setting of 1.9.
c. Photo shown of the dial refers to an index setting of approximately 1.94.
3. Each increment (or click) of the top dial changes the crimp height y in a 0.01mm. This is also used for the
index value.
a. To achieve an index setting of 0.85, start at “8” on the top crimp dial (9) and turn the dial clockwise 5 clicks (0.80 +
5*0.01 = 0.85)
b. To achieve an index setting of 1.23, start at “12” on the top crimp dial (9) and turn the dial clockwise 3 clicks (1.20 + 3*0.01 = 1.23)
Load the ferrules
11. Remove air pressure to the applicator.
12. Bring the press ram to the top center position using the jog uttons.
13. Lift the safety shield.
14. Remove the funnel unit (11).
15. Lift the ferrule rake lever (12).
16. Select the proper ferrule according to the applicator ID plate.
17. Install ferrule strip until the first ferrule reaches the end of the track.
18. Lower the ferrule rake lever (12).
19. Apply air pressure to the applicator and lower the safety shield.
20. Lower the tooling with the jog utton. If the ferrule strip is advanced properly, the tooling will capture the first ferrule properly.

CAUTION
Confirm proper ferrule position before initiating a full cycle!
To prevent tooling damage, efore initiating a full crimp cycle, verify that the ferrules are in the proper position in the crimp
tooling. If they are not in the proper position, use the jog uttons to open/close the tooling.
a. If the first ferrule lies to the left of the tooling, continue to cycle the press through until the first ferrule is captured properly in the tooling.
b. If the ferrules are not captured properly in the tooling, open the tooling using the opposite jog button and try to adjust the strip. If the strip cannot be adjusted
so that the ferrule is properly captured, the feed must be adjusted. Refer to manual.
21. After verifying that the ferrules will e properly captured, install the funnel unit (11) and ensure it is properly aligned. The tooling must e raised, in
the upper position to install the funnel unit.
22. Once the funnel unit is properly aligned, you should e ready to egin crimping.
Measuring Crimp Height
The sketch elow represents a side view of a crimped ferrule. Crimp height should e measured in a high spot (CH2) and not a low spot (CH1).
Verify/adjust crimp height
1. Verify crimp height and overall crimp quality.
2. Reduce crimp height y turning the top dial clockwise (to the left).
3. Increase crimp height y turning the top dial counterclockwise (to the right).
Remove the ferrule strip
1. Using the jog uttons, raise the press ram to the top.
2. Remove air pressure.
3. Open the shield and clear the ferrule on the anvil if one is present.
4. Lift the ferrule rake lever (10) and the feed finger.
5. Gently pull the ferrule strip to the left to remove the strip.
Remove the applicator
1. Using the jog uttons, raise the press ram to the top.
2. Remove air pressure.
3. Open the shield.
4. Install the red tooling protection ring (4).
5. Remove the hose fitting (7) from the quick connect on the applicator (8).
6. Release the ase plate lever (1).
7. Ensure a firm grip on the applicator and remove it to the left.
CAUTION
To prevent tooling damage, always ensure the red protection ring is installed when the
applicator is not in use!
The protection ring prevents the upper tooling from accidentally making contact with the lower tooling. Such
contact may damage or wear tooling prematurely.
