INSTRUCTIONS FOR:
SHOT BLASTING CABINETS
Models: SB951 & SB972
1.1. ELECTRICAL SAFETY. p WARNING! It is the users responsibility to read, understand and comply with the following:
You must check all electrical equipment and appliances to ensure they are safe before using. You must inspect power supply leads, plugs and all
electrical connections for wear and damage. You must ensure the risk of electric shock is minimised by the installation of appropriate safety
devices. An RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker) should be incorporated in the main distribution board. We also recommend that an RCD
(Residual Current Device) is used with all electrical products. It is particularly important to use an RCD together with portable products that are
plugged into an electrical supply not protected by an RCCB. If in doubt consult a professional electrician. You may obtain a Residual Current
Device by contacting your Sealey dealer. You must also read and understand the following instructions concerning electrical safety.
1.1.1. The Electricity At Work Act 1989 requires all portable electrical appliances, if used on a business premises, to be tested by
a qualified Electrician at least once a year by using a Portable Appliance Tester (PAT).
1.1.2. The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 makes owners of electrical appliances responsible for the safe condition of the appliance,
and the safety of the appliance operator. If in any doubt about electrical safety, contact a qualified electrician.
1.1.3. Ensure the insulation on all cables and the product itself is safe before connecting to the mains power
supply. See 1.1.1. & 1.1.2. above and use a Portable Appliance Tester (PAT).
1.1.4. Ensure that cables are always protected against short circuit and overload.
1.1.5. Regularly inspect power supply, leads, plugs and all electrical connections for wear and damage,
especially power connections, to ensure that none are loose.
1.1.6. Important: Ensure the voltage marked on the product is the same as the electrical power supply
to be used, and check that plugs are fitted with the correct capacity fuse. A 13Amp plug may require
a fuse smaller than 13Amps for certain products (subject to 1.1.10. below) see fuse rating at right.
1.1.7. DO NOT pull or carry the powered appliance by its power supply lead. Products such as
welders must not be pulled or carried by their output cables.
1.1.8. DO NOT pull power plugs from sockets by the power cable.
1.1.9. DO NOT use worn or damage leads, plugs or connections. Immediately replace or have repaired by
a qualified Electrician. A U.K. 3 pin plug with ASTA/BS approval is fitted. In case of damage, cut off
and fit a new plug according to the following instructions (discard old plug safely).
(UK only - see diagram at right). Ensure the unit is correctly earthed via a three-pin plug.
a) Connect the GREEN/YELLOW earth wire to the earth terminal E.
b) Connect the BROWN live wire to live terminal L.
c) Connect the BLUE neutral wire to the neutral terminal N.
After wiring, check there are no bare wires, that all wires have been correctly connected and that the wire restraint is tight.
Double insulated products are often fitted with live (BROWN) and neutral (BLUE) wires only. Double insulated products are always marked with
this symbol . To re-wire, connect the brown & blue wires as indicated above. DO NOT connect the brown or blue to the earth terminal.
1.1.10. Some products require more than a 13Amp electrical supply. In such a case, NO plug will be fitted. You must contact a qualified Electrician
to ensure a 30 amp fused supply is available. We recommend you discuss the installation of a industrial round pin plug & socket with your electrician.
1.1.11. Cable extension reels. When a cable extension reel is used it should be fully unwound before connection. A cable reel with an RCD
fitted is recommended since any product which is plugged into the cable reel will be protected. The section of the cable on the cable
reel is important. We recommend that at least 1.5mm2section cable but to be absolutely sure that the capacity of the cable reel is
suitable for this product and for others that may be used in the other output sockets, we recommend the use of 2.5mm2section cable.

performing any maintenance.
3Maintain the cabinet in good condition Replace or repair damaged parts. Use genuine parts only. Non authorised parts may be dangerous
and will invalidate the warranty.
3Locate cabinet in an adequate working area for its function, keep area clean, tidy and free from unrelated materials. Ensure adequate lighting.
3Use only dry abrasives such as glass bead. We recommend Sealey item B5KG. Never use harsh abrasives such
as aluminium oxide, blasting garnet or sand with this cabinet. Never use fluids or mix fluids with another media in the unit.
pWARNING! Always wear approved eye or face and ear protection when operating the cabinet.
3Keep the unit lid closed and secured when in use.
pWARNING! ensure correct air pressure is maintained and not exceeded.
Always keep the blast nozzle directed at the workpiece. Never use outside the unit, always use with the lid closed.
Regularly check the exhaust vent at the back of the cabinet is clear and not blocked and there is space between it and any wall.
3Maintain correct balance and footing. Ensure the floor is clean and free from blasting grit spillage. Wear non slip shoes.
3Remove ill fitting clothing. Remove ties, watches, rings, and other loose jewellery, and contain and/ or tie back long hair.
3Keep children and non essential persons away from the working area.
3Use a dust free light tube not greater than 70 Watts.
7DO NOT force the cabinet to achieve a task it was not designed to perform.
7DO NOT operate the cabinet if any parts are damaged or missing as this may cause failure or possible personal injury.
7DO NOT operate the cabinet with the lid open.
7DO NOT stand on the cabinet.

3.1. Ensure the air valve is in the "off" position before connecting to the air supply.
3.2. You will require an air pressure of 90psi , and an air volume of 4.5 - 7cfm for operating the unit.
3.3. pWARNING! Ensure air supply does not exceed 100PSI. Too high an air pressure and unclean air will shorten the product life
due to excessive wear, and may be dangerous causing possible damage and personal injury.
3.4. The air supply must be clean and dry. Drain the air supply tank daily. Water in the air line will damage the item being supplied.
3.5. Clean the air inlet filter screen weekly. For recommended
hook-up, see diagram to right.
3.6. Line pressure should be increased to compensate for
unusually long air hoses (over 8 metres). The minimum
hose diameter should be 10mm I.D. and fittings must
have the same inside dimensions.
3.7. Keep hose away from heat, oil and sharp edges.
Check hoses for wear, and make certain that
all connections are secure.
3.8. The cleaners input connection is 1/4 BSP.

Your shot blasting cabinet is constructed of steel with a replaceable viewing screen and internal illumination. Fitted with a shot blasting gun the
unit is suitable for proprietary brands of glass beads only. Excellent for use with a wide variety of workshop and bodyshop cleaning
applications The cabinets require a standard, dry workshop air supply. The SB972 may be either bench or floor mounted on the optional
SB972/STAND.
3. AIR SUPPLY & INSTALLATION
HOOK UP
Use an appropriate coupling suitable for your air system to connect the air supply to the inlet on the right hand side of the cabinet and the gun.
The air supply must be clean and dry and should not exceed the maximum pressure.
Check all fitting to ensure there are no leaks, and check that the media supply hose is tightly attached to the underside of the gun.
Place the abrasive media into the centre of the cabinet as follows:
SB951 = 10 lbs
SB972 = 40 lbs
Do not exceed the stated amounts. Excessive amounts of media will impair visibility, create poor blasting performance and could block the air
exhaust at the rear of the cabinet.
Connect the unit to the electrical main supply and the unit is ready for use.
4. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
pWARNING! Ensure you have read, understood and apply safety instructions in chapter 1 before using the unit.
4.1. When you have completed installation as in chapter 3, place the workpiece in the cabinet and close and latch the lid securely.
pWARNING! failure to securely close the lid could result in damage or personal injury.
4.2. Turn the light, and the air supply on.
4.3. Insert your hands into the cabinet gloves, grasp the gun and depress the trigger to start the blasting process. If no flow is achieved,
momentarily cover the gun nozzle in order to clear the tube.
4.4. Move the blast media (which looks like steam) continuously over the workpiece in an even and circular motion. To avoid undesirable
peening the flow should not be too hard or concentrated. The work finish may vary from coarse to fine depending on the size of the
abrasive media. On delicate workpieces, to avoid unnecessary peening or excessive abrasion, begin the blasting with a lesser airflow.
5. MAINTENANCE
pWARNING! Ensure the cabinet is disconnected from the electrical mains and the air supply before attempting any maintenance.
5.1. Ensure the blasting media does not become damp. Keep the air supply dry at all times. Dispose of any damp media.
5.2. Replace media when it has becomes excessively dusty, loses its granular or spherical appearance, or debris from workpieces mixes in
with it. This is usually noticed when media from the nozzle looks like a smoke cloud rather than steam.
5.3. Regularly check that the exhaust vent at the back of the cabinet is clear and not blocked (see parts diagram item A).
5.4. Regularly check gun blast nozzle to ensure it does not become blocked with media. Immediately replace worn or damaged nozzles.
5.5. If abrasive pick-up hose becomes blocked, re-power the unit, ensure the lid is correctly closed. Cover the gun tip and force air back
through the hose to clear any media.
5.6. Replace the transparent screen on the underside of the lid if visibility is reduced.
5.7. Internal cabinet light may be replaced with a dust free light tube not greater than 70 Watts.
