This manual concerns the operation of the mechanical dimming system
only. For instructions on the operation of the Pacific luminaire fixture,
please also refer to the additional instruction sheet.

to which it relates. It contains important installation, operating, maintenance and safety procedures.
The customer must strictly comply with them.
Along with such procedures mentioned in this document, the customer should also observe such other
procedures generally applicable to lighting equipment.
Follow the instructions in this manual carefully. Selecon accepts no responsibility if the customer fails

For each customer, operating conditions will vary, sometimes greatly. Such variations may affect the
luminaires’ performance. Selecon has no control over the customer’s unique operating environment.
Hence, Selecon makes no representations or warranties concerning the luminaires’ performance
under the customer’s actual operating conditions. All operating parameters must be validated for each
customer application by the customer’s technical experts.
If the customer does not follow the installation, operating, maintenance and safety procedures in this
manual, as well as those generally applicable to lighting equipment, the luminaire may not perform as
expected. More seriously, it may cause property damage, personal injury or other losses.
Selecon accepts no liability for direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages resulting
from the customer’s failure to follow the installation, operating, maintenance and safety procedures in
this manual or those generally applicable to lighting equipment. The foregoing limitation extends to
damages for personal injury, property damage, loss of operations, loss of profits, loss of product or
loss of time, whether incurred by the customer, the customer’s employees or a third party.

Not for residential use.
CAUTION: Hot Surfaces, Avoid contact by persons or materials.
The Pacific has some hot surfaces. Be careful to avoid burns. Take care with the
Lamp house and Heat sink. We suggest the use of leather gloves when focusing
these luminaires.
SAFETY - Mains Power Isolation
The unit should always be electrically isolated from mains power before moving,
cleaning or servicing.
CAUTION: Risk of fire - Use with maximum 575W MSR lamp.
CAUTION: These luminaires are not suitable for mounting on a normally flammable
surface.
These luminaires are not suitable for outdoor use. They are rated at IP00.
The Pacific range can be operated only through a range of angles 90°either side of
horizontal.
Introduction
The Pacific Dowser is an accessory for the Pacific family of luminaires.
It is a mechanical dimming mechanism for discharge sources, such as the 575W MSR, 575W MSR
Hot Restrike, 250W Hot Restrike ST, and 150W CDM and 70W CDM Pacifics.
Through the use of this accessory, a smooth even fade is possible without compromising the
maximum output of the system.
The dowser is intended for use in theatrical applications and performs in a similar way to traditional
tungsten halogen light sources. The dowser is not intended for strobe type effects i.e. rapid sequential
off/on operation.

Important Operational Notes
Parts of the Dowser
Installation Warnings
•Do not operate the dowser from a dimmed mains power supply.
•Do not hang the unit upside down.
•Always use a safety chain with the unit. Attach one end of it to one of the safety chain anchor
points on the dowser and attach the other end around a secure independent anchor point.
•Prolonged use of the dowser with the arms closed and the light source on will result in damage to
the dowser, and is not covered under warranty.
Performance Warning
The Pacific Dowser is optimised to provide a visually smooth even fade for the following Pacific
models:
Pacific 5.5°-13° Zoomspot
Pacific 12°-28° Zoomspot
Pacific 14°-35° Zoomspot
Pacific 23°-50° Zoomspot
Pacific 45°-75° Zoomspot
Pacific 90° Fixed Beam
The optical performance when using the Pacific 20°,30°,40° or 50° Fixed Beam is outside the design
parameters of the dowser. It is not recommended for use with these models.
