Introduction
The information in this manual will enable you to:
set up the SINEC L2 DP bus
parameterize the configuration of the ET 200 distributed I/O system with
the COM ET 200 Windows software
operate the IM 308-C as DP master and/or DP slave
operate the S5-95U with DP master interface on the SINEC L2 DP bus
start up the SINEC L2 DP bus
This manual deals with the S5-95U programmable controller and
supplements the system manual S5-90U/S5-95U Programmable Controller. It
describes all the functions and features of the DP master interface of the
S5-95U.

This manual is intended for users wishing to plan, set up or operate the
ET 200 distributed I/O system. Readers should have practical experience of
or be familiar with the use of the S5-95U, S5-115U, S5-135U or S5-155U
programmable controllers.
This manual is an update describing a number of new features:
a version of the S5-95U can be operated as DP master
the IM 308-C can be operated as DP slave and as DP master
COM ET 200 Windows V 2.0 can be used to configure:
– the ET 200M distributed I/O station
– the ET 200L distributed I/O station
– the DP/AS-I Link
– other DP masters (by means of type files for DP masters)
You will find information in the S5-95U with DP–master interface and all
other versions of the S5-95U in the system manual S5-90U/S5-95U Pro-
grammable Controller. At various points in this manual, you will find
references to the system manual S5-90U/S5-95U Programmable Controller.
The slaves are not described in this manual. Other manuals dealing with
ET 200 are listed in the table below. You will find the corresponding order
numbers in Appendix F.

1.1 What is the ET 200 distributed I/O system?
When a conventional system is set up, the I/O modules are usually grouped
together in the programmable controller.
If the inputs/outputs are distant from the programmable controller, the
cabling may be complex and cumbersome, while reliability may be impaired
by disruptive electromagnetic fields.
Under these circumstances, Siemens recommends the use of the ET 200
distributed I/O system. The controller CPU is located at a central point, the
inputs and outputs are distributed so as to be at their most efficient, and the
high- performance ET 200 bus system with its high data-transfer rates
ensures excellent communication between the CPU and the I/O stations.
The distributed I/O system consists of active (master) and passive (slave)
stations interconnected by the SINEC L2 DP field bus.
ET 200 also includes the COM ET 200 Windows parameterization software
which enables you to set up and commission the distributed configuration.
A master which functions in compliance with the patterns defined in DIN E
19245, Part 3, is known as a DP master.
The following may act as DP masters (active stations) in the distributed I/O
system:
IM 308-B or IM 308-C master interfaces. Both these modules are
compatible with the S5-115U, S5-135U and S5-155U programmable
controllers.
S5-95U programmable controller with DP master interface.
Other Siemens DP masters.
Other-vendor DP masters.
A host is a device or a system which contains the IM 308-C. The S5-115U,
S5-135U and S5-155U programmable controllers can function as the host for
the IM 308-C.
You can operate a maximum of 32 hosts on a SINEC L2 DP bus.
A slave operating on the SINEC L2 bus with the SINEC L2 DP protocol is
known as a DP slave.
A DP standard slave is a slave operating with the SINEC L2 DP protocol on
the SINEC L2 bus and functioning in accordance with standard DIN E
19245, Part 3.

The following can function as DP slaves (passive stations):
ET 200B, a small, compact I/O station, degree of protection IP 20
ET 200C, a small, compact I/O station, degree of protection IP 66/67
ET 200M, a modular I/O station, degree of protection IP 20 for the use of
S7-300 I/O modules
ET 200U, a modular I/O station, degree of protection IP 20 for the use of
S5-100U I/O modules
S5-95U programmable controller with DP slave interface
DP/AS-I Link, which connects the actuator-sensor interface to SI-
NEC L2-DP
TDs such as the TD 10/20 with the SINEC L2 DP interface module
OPs such as OP/A2, OP 15/A2, OP 15/C2, OP 25/35
Siemens or other-vendor field devices such as drives, valve blocks, etc.
You can operate a maximum of 124 DP slaves in the ET 200 distributed I/O
system.
The SINEC L2 DP field bus transfers data at a maximum rate of 12 Mbaud,
so reaction times are short. You can use either shielded two-wire cables or
fiber optics to set up your SINEC L2 DP field bus.
The maximum range with copper cabling is 10000 meters; fiber optics extend
the range to 23 kilometers.
The bus connectors are of a design such that DP slaves can be linked to or
disconnected from the bus without interrupting data traffic.
The average reaction time of the SINEC L2 DP bus is approx. 1 ms under the
following conditions:
one DP master on the bus (IM 308-C master)
max. 30 DP slaves with a total of 128 bytes inputs/128 bytes outputs
12 Mbaud transfer rate
no transfer of diagnostics data and consistent areas

The COM ET 200 Windows parameterization software expedites
parameterization and initial operation of the ET 200 distributed I/O system.
COM ET 200 Windows runs under MS-WindowsR(V 3.1x), presenting a
graphical user interface with tools for
Sstraightforward parameterization of the DP masters and DP slaves,
Stransferring data to a memory card or 32 K EEPROM (exporting) and
Sdetailed documentation of parameterization.
COM ET 200 Windows includes detailed online help offering you any
assistance you may need when working with the parameterization program.
When you use the control program, you access the distributed inputs/outputs
in just the same way as those of the CPU (e.g. L PW/T PW).
If you use the IM 308-C master interface, the FB IM308C is available for
straightforward data interchange. The FB IM308C discharges the following
functions:
Sreading inputs,
Sreading diagnostics,
Swriting to outputs and
Ssending the FREEZE and SYNC control commands to the DP slaves
(simultaneous read from inputs (FREEZE) and synchronize output reset
(SYNC)).
The FB IM308C is also at your disposal for assigning station numbers to DP
slaves (such as, for example, ET 200C, DP/AS-I Link).
The ET 200 distributed I/O system is based on the standards DIN 19245, Part
1 and DIN E 19245, Part 3. A distinction is drawn between active nodes
(masters) and passive nodes (slaves).
DIN 19245, Part 1, describes the bus-access and transfer protocol and
specifies the properties of the data-transfer medium.
DIN E 19245, Part 3, describes the high-speed cyclic exchange of data
between DP masters and DP slaves.
DIN E 19245, Part 3, also stipulates
