4-pinheader-to-typeAUSBAdapter
This USB adapter is only needed if you plan to connect
the Bay Reader/Writer to a type A USB port instead
of a USB pin-out header.
Match up the wires by color when connecting the
Bay Reader/Writer's 4-pin USB connector to the
4-pinheader,thenplugtheotherendintoatypeAport.

Installing the Bay Reader/Writer
Important: In order for the Bay Reader/Writer to work
properly, the driver of your existing USB host adapter
must be installed properly.
1. Turn OFF the power to your computer and all
connected peripheral devices.
2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the
computer.
3. Remove the computer’s cover.
4. Select an available 3.5" or 5.25" drive bay for the
Bay Reader/Writer, removethe coverplate from the
selected drive bay. Secure the Bay Reader/Writer to
the drive bay by using the supplied mounting
screws.
Note: When installing the Bay Reader/Writer into a
5.25" drive bay, install it into the 5.25" mounting
rackbeforemountingintothedrivebayandfollow
the same assembly instructions. Refer to 5.25"
Mounting Rack Assembly on page 3.
5. Connect the Bay Reader/Writer to the system's
internal USB port. Refer to page 4 and 5 for details
on the 2 different connection methods.
Driver Installation
Make sure you follow the instructions in the previous
section, Installing the Bay Reader/Writer,before
installing the driver.
Windows98SEDriverInstallation
1. Boot up Windows. At the Add New Hardware
Wizard click Cancel.

2. Insert the driver CD. Autorun should start the
installation. If Autorun does not start, click Start,
then Run. Type D:\Autorun.exe, then click OK.
(Change D: to match your CD-ROM drive letter)
3. Click Install device, then follow the on-screen
instructions to install the driver. Restart the
computer to complete the installation.
4. The driver installs automatically when Windows
resumes.
Windows2000DriverInstallation
With Service Pack 2 (SP2) or earlier:
1. Boot up Windows. Insert the driver CD.
2. Autorun should start the installation. If autorun
does not start, click Start, then Run. Type
D:\Autorun.exe, then click OK. (Change D: to
match your CD-ROM drive letter)
3. Click Install device, then follow the on-screen
instructions to install the driver. Restart the
computer to complete the installation.
4. The driver installs automatically when Windows
resumes.
With Service Pack 3 (SP3) or later:
Important: Windows 2000 with SP3 or later
automaticallydetectsand installs the correct drivers for
this device. No driver installation is needed. Refer to
Accessing Memory Cards, on page 10, for the order in
which the memory slots appear.

this optional software, please follow the directions
below.

ToVerifySuccessfulDriverInstallation:
1. Check Device Managerto verify successful driver
installation.
Windows 98SE/ME: From the main desktop, right
click My Computer, click Properties,then click
Device Manager.
Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003: Right click My
Computer, click Manage, then click Device
Manager.
2. Double click Universal Serial Bus controllers:
Windows98SE/MEwithoptionalsoftware: USBCard
Reader should be displayed, in addition to others
that may come with your system.
WindowsMEwithbuilt-indriver: USBMassStorage
Device should be displayed, in addition to others
that may come with your system.
Windows2000/XP/Server2003: AUSBMassStorage
Device should be displayed, in addition to others
that may come with your system.
3. Double click Disk drives: Generic Storage
Device... should be displayed four times.

4. Verify Mass Storage device:
Windows 98SE/ME with optional software: Double
clickHarddiskcontrollers,andUSBStorageDrive
should be displayed.
Windows ME with built-in driver: Double click
StorageDeviceandUSBDiskshouldbedisplayed
four times.
Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003: Double click
Storage volumes and Generic volume should be
displayed four times.
Inserting Memory Cards
For CompactFlash, MicroDrive, Memory Stick,
MultiMediaCard and SecureDigital memory cards,
insert with the top label facing up.
For SmartMedia memory card, insert with the top label
facing down and gold pins facing up.
Removing Memory Cards
Donotremovememorycards whilethePower/Activity
LED is flashing. Confirm that the LED stays lit for
several seconds before removing any inserted media.
Accessing Memory Cards
When the Bay Reader/Writer is successfully installed,
fourRemovableDisciconsappearinMyComputer. To
access any one drive, double click the icon that
corresponds to the memory card. The memory card
slotsappearinthisorder: CF/Microdrive,SmartMedia,
SecureDigital/Multimediacard, and Memory Stick
respectively.
