Beforeyouswitchonthesonar
Beforeyoupowerupthesonar,makesurethatyouhavesufcient
waterdepthtolowerthetransducer!
Whenthesonarisnotinuse
Toprotectthesonarwhenitisnotinuse,westronglyadviceyou
tohoistthetransducer,eventhoughyoumaynotswitchoffthe
power.Innarroworshallowwatersthisisveryimportant,since
youmay-inworstcase-runthetransducerintothebottom.
Thiswilldamagethetransducerandthetransducershaft,and
extensiverepairisrequired.
Whenyoudockthevessel
Itisveryimportantthatthesonarsystemremainss
w i t c h e d o f f
whenthevesselisindrydock.Ifthetransducerissubjected
totransmitpowerwhenitisinopenair,itwillbedamaged.
Asasafeguardingmeasure,youcanremovethepowerfuses
onthesonarsystembeforethevesselisdocked.Asanextra
safeguardingmeasure,thesonarisbydefaultpoweredupwith
thetransmitpowerswitchedoff.
Manualoperationofthehullunit
Intheeventofimproperoperation,thepowerful3kWelectric
motormaycauseseriousdamagetotheequipmentand/orinjury
topersonnel.
Therefore,b

Ifyouthinkthatsomethinghasbeendamagedonthesonar,

Basicinformation
TheSimradSH90isanomnidirectionalhighfrequencysonar.
Itisdesignedforallsizedshingvessels,bothpurseseiners
andtrawlers.
Theoperationalfrequencyis114kHz.Thecylindrical
multi-elementtransducerallowstheomnidirectionalsonarbeam
tobetiltedelectronicallyfrom+10to–60degrees.Thisallows
youtoautomaticallytrackschoolsofsh,andtoobservethe
wholewatervolumearoundthevessel.Astabilisingsystemis
includedforelectronicpitchandrollcompensation.
Greatemphasishasbeenplacedongivingthebestpossible
presentationsonahighresolutioncolourdisplay.
TheSH90ProcessorUnitiscontrolledbyMicrosoft’sWindows
XP®operatingsystem,whichresultinaexiblechoiceofdisplay
modesforalargerangeofuserapplications.
Thesignalprocessingandbeamformingisperformedinafast
digitalsignalprocessingsystemusingthefulldynamicrange
ofthesignals.
Inadditiontothetraditionalsinglefrequencytransceiversystem,
theSimradSH90containsanadvancedfrequencymodulated
ltersystem(FM).

withtheSimradSH90.
OperatingPanel
Themostfrequentlyusedfunctionsaredirectlyaccessiblebythe
designatedcontrolbuttonsontheOperatingPanel,andmayenter
operationalcommandsdirectly.
Thebuttonsaregroupedineldsaccordingtotheirpurpose.
Mostsonarfunctionsarealsoaccessibleandactivatedusingthe
menusystemonthedisplayandthetrackballandSelectbutton
ontheOperatingPanel.

sonarispoweredup.Thisisforsafetyreasons.Onthe
Horizontalmenu,youwillseethattheTXpowerbutton
ashestoremindyouofthis.

Certainparametersettingsareidentiedwithanasterisk(*).This
symbolindicatesthedefaultsettingknowntoperformwellunder
normalconditions.Ifyouget“lost“intheparametersettings,the
Defaultsettingsfunctionwillbringupthesenormalparameters.
TheDefaultsettingfunctionisavailableontheSetupmenu,anda
dedicatedparameterdialogisused.
IntheSimradSH90sonar,allparametersarestored.This
functionwillcausethesonartorememberalltheselected
parametersettings,evenwhenthesonarisswitchedoff.

Thesonardisplaycontainsnotonlythesonarpictureandthe
menusystem,butalsootherinformationthatisusefulfor
efcientoperation.
