Forceps Manikin Baby Instructions
The two Baby Fetuses are air-filled manikins with water filling capability built to
provide a more life like weight distribution.
To fill with air:
1. Slip tubing from air pump over metal valve on manikin’s left foot.
2. Turn to open.
3. Pump bulb until desired firmness is achieved.
4. Screw valve tight to reseal.
5. Remove bulb assembly.
Note: On larger baby, do not over inflate. The baby will be more flexible with less air.
To fill with water:
1. Hold manikin upside down.
2. Open both metal valves located on the bottom of each foot.
3. Attach hose from faucet to metal valve on the bottom of left foot.
4. Fill with warm water until water begins to flow from the valve on the right
foot.
5. Shut off flow of water.
6. Remove hose from valve on left foot.
7. Gently squeeze air from manikin until water flows from left valve.
8. Hold and close valve tightly.
To drain water:
1. Place manikin’s feet into sink and open both metal valves.
2. Let drain 15 minutes or until all water has drained out.
3. Inflate with air for storage.
4. After use, the manikin should be washed with warm soapy water, rinsed well,
dried, and lightly dusted with baby powder.
Water must be drained from manikin every seven (7) days to prevent microbiologic
growth inside the manikin. Inflate manikin with air for storing.
Important Notes: To reduce friction between the pelvis and the fetus during delivery,
spread baby powder on all of the surfaces that come into contact with each other. The
manikin will stay in place on a smooth surface if you first moisten the bottom of the
suction cups before securing the unit to the table. Always remove the baby from the
birth canal at the end of every class. Facilitate a non-moving manikin by wetting the
suction cups on the bottom of the pelvis before placing on a work surface.
