1.1 ABOUT ADSL
AnADSLMODEMisabroadbandInternetaccess device,whichutilizesthehighfrequencysegmentof
thephonelinetotransmithigh-speeddatawithoutaffectingthevoicetransmission.ThefrequencyoftheADSL
signalishigherthanthatofvoice,sovoiceandADSLsignal cancoexistinonelinebyusingasplitterto
insulateeachfromtheother.ADSLdatatransferadaptstheasymmetrymodel.Itsupportsuploadtransmission
speedupto1Mbpsanddownloadspeedupto 8Mbps(24Mbpsfor ADSL2+). ADSLisanidealdevicefor
broadband access.
1.2ABOUTADSL2/2+
Transmissionperformanceof ADSL2isimprovedcomparing withthefirstgenerationofADSL.These
improvementsaremainlyconcernedwithlongdistance,anti-line-loss,anti-noise,etc.Bydoubling the
transmissionbandwidth,ADSL2+hasimplementedadownlinkrateashigh as24Mbps.Therefore,Internet
applicationssuchassynchronoustransmissionofmulti videostream,onlinegamesandhugecapacityof
downloadingfilesaremadepossible.

Introduction:
1、Useatelephonecordtoconnect theLINEportofthesplitterwiththeRJ-11port(thephonejack)on
thewall.
2、UseanothertelephonecordtoconnecttheADSLportofthesplitterwiththeLINEportoftheADSL
Modem.
3、UseanothertelephonecordtoconnectthetelephonesetwiththePHONEportofthesplitter.
4、Connect Ethernetportof theADSLMODEMwith10/100BASE-Tportofthecomputerusingthe
networkcablethatcomeswiththemodem.
5、Plug inthepowercord,andturn onthepower.
If youdonotwantInternetservicesandtelephonevoice servicessimultaneously,pleasejustconnect the
LINE portoftheADSLModemwiththeRJ-11port(thephonejack)onthewallusingatelephonecord.Inthis
case,thesplitterisnotnecessary.

3. CONFIGURATION
3.1DEFAULT CONFIGURATION
ADSLMODEMhaspre-configuredwiththeVCI/VPIwhichisincommon use.Thedefaultdial-upmode
isbridgeencapsulation.Forbridgemode, no needtoconfigureanymoreparameter.However,thethirdparty
dial-upsoftwareisneededforconnectionwiththeInternet.
3.2COMPUTER CONFIGURATION
Thedefault IPaddress for ADSLMODEM is: 192.168.1.1;TheSubnetMaskis:255.255.255.0.Userscan
configureADSLMODEMthrough anInternetbrowser.ADSLMODEMcanbeusedasgatewayand DNS
server;usersneedtosetthecomputer sTCP/IPprotocolasfollow:
1、SetthecomputerIPaddressat samesegmentofADSLMODEM, suchassettheIPaddress ofthe
networkcardtooneof the “192.168.1.2”~“192.168.1.254”.
2、Setthecomputer sgatewaythesameIPaddress astheADSLModem s.
3、Setcomputer sDNS serverthesameasADSLModem sIPaddress or thatofaneffectiveDNSserver.
3.3ADSLMODEMCONFIGURATION
3.3.1LOG IN
Openthebrowser;input http://192.168.1.1 attheaddress column.Press “Enter”keythentheentrydialog
box willshowupasFigure3.1. InputUsername: admin , Password: password (capitalsensitive), thenpress

3.4WAN CONFIGURATION
If theconfigurationisbridgeencapsulation,thereisnoneedtoconfigureanymoreparameters. Onlyneed
tousethethird partydial-upsoftwaretoconnecttheInternet.
Totally,thisroutersupports:PPPoA、PPPoE、MER、IPoA、Bridging. For detailconfigurationinformation,
pleasecheckthefollowing configuration guide.

PPPoAisalsoknownasRFC2364 andnamedasPeertoPeerProtocoloverATM.AsPPPoE, italsohasall

5. TROUBLESHOOTING
5.1UNABLE TO ACCESSINTERNET
5.1.1CHECK THELINEAND THEDEVICE
1、Checktheindicatorofpowersupplyison,ifnot, Makesuretheconnectionofpowersupplyiscorrect;
Makesuretheoutputof power supplyiscorrect;Makesuretheswitchofpowersupplyisturnedon;
2、Checktheindicator ofPCison,ifnot,Makesuretheconnection of cableandnetworkadapter;Make
surethatthecorrectcableisused;
3、ChecktheLINK LEDtosee ifitistwinkling.Ifnofasttwinkling isobservedwithin3minutes, please
checkwhetherphonelinehasbeencorrectlyplaced;whetherADSLseparatoriscorrectlyused.If
multiple extensionshavebeeninstalled,makesurethattheseparator isinstalledpriortothejunction
box of phoneline.Iftheaboveitemsareconfirmedand stillnofasttwinklingofWAN LEDis
observed,calltheISPtoquerywhetherADSLservicehasbeenprovidedon your line;
4、ChecktheLINKLEDtoseewhetheritisunabletochangestatusfromfasttwinklingtoalwayslight,
or whetheritchangesstatustofasttwinklingafter sometimeofalwayslight.Ifthesephenomenaoccur
constantly,pleasecontact yourISPwithademandtochecklinesand signalquality;
If thereisno problemintheaboveitems,thelineandthedeviceshallbeworking.Problemsmaycome
fromyour computer configurationor deviceconfiguration.
5.1.2CHECK YOUR CONFIGURATION
Weexplainheretheconfiguration ofPPPOEusingWindows2000operationsystemasanexample.For
otheroperationsystemstheprocess issimilar.
1、Enterthedevice managertocheckifEthernet adapteriscorrectlyinstalled.Ifany problemexists,
pleasere-installedit;
2、ChecktheconfigurationofEthernetadapterinPC.TrytomanuallysetIPaddressthat isinband
192.168.1.x withoutconflict. See3.2;
3、Trytoruncommand “ping 192.168.1.1”oncommandlinemode.Iftheresponsereturns “timeout”,
pleasecheckEthernetconnection andIPsettings;
4、If thismodemisreachable,trytorunpingwithaknownouter IP,e.g.theDNS serverIPof ShangHai
Online: “ping 202.96.209.133”.
l If pingisreachable,thereshallbeno problemsinthemodem.Pleasesee step5;
l If pingisnotreachable, seestep6andcheckiftheconfiguration iscorrect.
5、Pleasetrytoping acertainouterURL,e.g. “ping www.google.com”.
l If ping isreachable,thereshallbenoproblemsinthenetworksettings.Pleasecheckthesettings
ofthePCterminal,e.g.whetherthesecuritylevelistoohigh,orwhetheranti-virusfirewallis
installed;
l If pingisnotreachable, checktheDNS settingof Ethernet adapter.See 3.2.
