SMC Networks TigerSwitch SMC8124PL2 User manual

OVERVIEW
The SMC8124PL2 provides wire speed 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet switching with built in PoE features
specifi cally designed for SMB workgroup environments. By supporting 802.3af PoE on all 10/100/1000
copper ports it enables easy installation of PoE devices such as IP Phones and IP Cameras. The integrated
combo ports provide SFP’s for where fi ber is required for extended distances. An integrated part of this
switch family is the IP Clustering function. The feature allows customers to group together up to 32 switches
into a single logical group which can be managed using a single IP address. The switch also boasts advanced
Quality of Service features that can reduce the latency of packets through the network, with specifi c traffi c
prioritization improving the delivery of converged data such as voice and high quality video over IP. The 2
combo ports provide either 10/100/1000 or SFP ports. The PoE function allows up to 15.4W maximum per
port. Overall this switch is part of a fl exible switch family which brings PoE and non-PoE switches to the edge
of the network.

KEY FEATURES
Highest Performance and Lowest Power Flexible Security Features
As part of SMC commitment to green networking this switch family
is designed around the latest generation switching silicon which
can provide high performance and the low power requirements
such as 38W for the SMC8126L2. Translating into approximately
1.4W per port for the 26 port and 1.3W per port for the 50 port.
Security is critical to next generation networks. This switch family
includes a range of User and Device security functions which
will help protect the network. Secure management interfaces for
protecting device confi guration and secure user access using
802.1x or Private Vlans to prevent unauthorized access.
MultiLink Trunking with LACP IP Clustering
Including the ability to bundle together the front panel ports to
provide higher performing uplinks. Trunk links can be confi gured
manually or using the 802.3ad standard which is supported on this
switch family.
Ease of management is crucial and to help deliver this we have
included IP Clustering. This allows users to group together up to
32 switches as part of a logical cluster. The units can be part of
this switch family or from the SMC61xxL2 family giving added
fl exibility.
