will
not
function
properly.

removed,
preset
stations

quencies

will

After
replacing

be
sure

old
ones.
If
this
is
not
done,
frequencies
may
not

displayed
properly

cannot

Note:
When

air
is
especially
dry,
the

static
electricity,

there
is
no
cause
for

disappears.

remove
and
reinstall
the
computer
batteries.

ANTENNA ADJUSTMENT
FOR AM (LW, MW, SW) RECEPTION
Pull the Telescopic Antenna out to its full length.
=
For
AM
reception
of
360
kHz
to
2,143kHz,
the
built-in
ferrite
bar
antenna
also
operates.
Since
this
antenna
is
directional,
lay
the
set
down
and
rotate
it
to
find
the
optimum
position.
@
If
there
is
a
fluorescent
lamp
just
above
the
set
and
reception
is
noisy,
incline
and
shorten
the
Telescopic
Antenna.

FOR FM RECEPTION
Pull
out
the
Telescopic
Antenna
and
adjust
its
length,
angle
and
direction
for
optimum
reception.

If
reception
is
unsatisfactory
with
the
Telescopic
Antenna
or
the
built-in
ferrite
bar
antenna,
connect
an
external
antenna.
When
us-
ing
an
external
antenna,
retract
the
Telescopic
Antenna.

vehicles
or
in
buildings,
radio
reception
(especially
LW
and
MW
reception)
may
be
difficult
or
noisy.
Try
listening
near
a
win-
dow.

know

frequency

a
station

received,
you
can
tune
in
the
station
easily
by
Direct
Tuning.

3. Check your inputting.

ed, you know the inputting is correct.
The
mark
EP
indicates
that
the
frequencies
are
input
to
both
Li
and Lz keys.

The
limits
of
SW
broadcasting
frequency
bands
are
written
in
black
and
those
of
amateur
broadcasting
frequency
bands
in
blue
on
the
frequency
band
limit
scale
under
the Frequency Display.

Scanning

Scan Start/Stop Key and Scan Tuning
If
you
press
the
START/STOP
key,
the
radio
begins
scanning
from
the
low
limit
of
the
frequency
range.
When
scanning
reaches
the’
high
limit,
it
will
come
back
to
the
low
limit
and
begin
scanning
again.
The
frequency
changes
by
the
interval
of
0.1
MHz
on
the
FM
band
and
3kHz
on
the
AM
band.
To
stop:
scanning,
press
the
START/STOP
key
again.
Note:
When
automatic
scanning
with
the
SCAN

Tuning

other
tuning
methods

scan
tuning,
you
can
tune
in
a
station
by
any
of
three
other
methods—Direct,
Manual
or
Preset
Tuning.
When
you
proceed
with
Scan
Tuning
after
using
another
method,
if
the
frequency
of
the
last
station
tuned
in
is
inside
the
scanning
frequency
range,
scan-
ning
begins
from
the
frequency
of
the
last
station.

EXTERNAL
ANTENNA
CONNECTION
FOR FM RECEPTION
In
a
steel-frame
building,
a
mountainous
area,
at
a
distance
from
the
transmitter
or
in
a
location
where
ignition
noise
is
severe,
FM
reception
may
be
unsatisfactory
with
the
Telescopic
Antenna.
In
this
case,
connect
a
commercially
available
external
FM
antenna
to
the
EXT
ANT
terminals
on
the
right
side
of
the
set
as
illustrated.
Use
a
75-ohm
coaxial
cable
as an
antenna
wire.

lug
to
the

terminal
of
the
EXT
ANT
terminals
on

Extend

wire
outdoors
as
high
as

tests to determine whether or not servicing is required.
If the problem persists after you have made these tests, consult the
nearest Sony dealer for further information.

No display or incorrect display

Incorrect
polarity

computer
batteries.
@ Weak computer batteries.
@ Computer batteries were replaced within a minute after their
removal.

case,
remove

batteries,
and
after
