1.2 SCOPE OF DELIVERY
The electric rotary control is supplied with the following contents:
• control box with integrated radio receiver and plug-in connecting cables
for supply, limit switch and door contact
• remote control (transmitter)
• operating and assembly instructions
Pre-assembled on the fireplace:
• drive unit, limit switches and door contact switch
Note: Retrofitting the rotary control to existing Magic fireplaces is not
possible!
1. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
The Spartherm "Magic" fireplace can optionally be equipped with an electric
rotary control. This is equipped with a remote control. By pressing a button,
the combustion chamber can be rotated on the transmitter by 180° so that
the fire door is accessible. With another touch of the button, the combustion
chamber can be rotated back to its normal position.
CAUTION: Continuous operation of the fireplace with the firebox door
facing forward (i.e. in the extended position) is not permitted!
After lighting or refueling, the combustion chamber has to be moved back to
its basic position, i.e. the firebox door is then in the back and is no longer
freely accessible.
The rotary control is to be used exclusively for the Spartherm "Magic"
fireplace. The control box is designed for indoor installation. Installation
outdoors or in any way other than that described in this manual is not
permitted.

1.3 FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
For igniting and stoking, the firebox of the Magic fireplace has to be turned
in order to obtain access to the firebox door. Afterwards, the firebox has to
be moved back into place.
Open function:
By pressing Button A on the remote control, the firebox starts to rotate until
the firebox door is facing forward. The rotation is stopped by a built-in limit
switch. The rotational movement cannot be stopped (except by opening the
firebox door); it continues until the limit switch is reached.
Close function:
By pressing Button B on the remote control, the firebox starts to rotate
until the firebox door is facing the back (default position). The rotation
is stopped by a built-in limit switch. The rotational movement cannot be
stopped (except by opening the firebox door); it continues until the limit
switch is reached.
Safety advice:
Opening the firebox door during a rotational movement of the firebox
is prohibited, due to the potential for collision and injury.
Firebox door:
The firebox door is monitored by a door contact switch. This is exclusively
intended for monitoring and may not be used for other purposes (e.g. com-
bustion control). If the firebox door is open, the firebox is not able to be
rotated.
Before the firebox moves, the firebox door has to be closed.
2. ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
These assembly instructions only apply to the electric rotary control for the
Magic fireplace. During installation of the fireplace, it is very important to
follow the directions in the assembly instructions of the fireplace.
Please note:
• Only those Magic fireplaces which were prepared with the electric rotary
control at the factory can be equipped with this control. Retrofit existing
equipment is not possible!
• The maximum ambient temperature of the control box must not exceed
40 °C
• Accessibility to the control box has to be ensured structurally in order to
replace the electronics in case of maintenance.
• The position of the control box is to be agreed upon with the customer.
We recommend a close placement of the fireplace so that the standard
cables will be long enough.
• All connection cables have to be installed in the "cold area" of the fire-
place system. Abrasion, crushing and pinching have to be avoided.
• Connection cables should be installed so as to secure that the mainte-
nance or replacement of components can occur easily.
• The 230V power cable can be extended if necessary (max. 30 meters
with 3 x 1.5 sq. mm wire cross-section of the extension). Similarly, the
wires of limit switches and door contacts can be extended by a maximum
of 10 meters (minimum cross section of 1.5 sq. mm)
• When working on the electrical components, they must be switched off.

2.1 ELECTRICAL CONNECTION
All electrical installations are to be condcuted pursuant to the VDE regu-
lations (e.g. VDE 0105, VDE 0116, VDE 0100, etc.) and the technical con-
nection conditions of the local power company. When working on electrical
systems, these are always to be switched off in advance!
2.2 CONTROL BOX
The control box for the electric rotary control is to be placed outside of the
fireplace, e.g. in an adjacent room or in the basement. Access to the control
box must be ensured at all times.
The maximum ambient temperature of the control box must not
exceed 40 °C!
The control box is connected to the power connector via a 3-wire connecting
cable (grounded socket).
The fireplace is connected via the following wires:
• 1 x Front limit switch
• 1 x Rear limit switch
• 1 x Door contact switch (monitoring of the firebox door)
• 1 x Motor current
All wires are equipped with distinctive plugs. They can only be inserted in
the correct position. The two limit switch cables are connected to the control
via a common plug.
2.3 CONNECTION CABLES
The controller has to be connected to the fireplace according to the follow-
ing scheme. The cable with the sleek black plug is provided for connection
to the S-Thermatik combustion control. If this is not installed, this cable
does not need to be taken into account.

2.4 COMMISSIONING
After connecting the controller to the fireplace, the controller has to be
plugged into a properly installed and grounded outlet.
The firebox door has to be closed.
After pressing Button A on the remote control, the firebox has to be set in
motion. After a rotary movement of about 180° is completed, the door faces
the front and is accessible.
Safety test:
Open the firebox door and press Buttons A and B on the remote control. No
rotational movement should occur. If it does, close the firebox door immedi-
ately, in order to prevent collisions and injuries. Then, remove the control by
pulling out the plug, and inform customer service.
If no rotational motion occurs when the firebox door is opened, close the
firebox door and return the firebox to its home position by pressing Button
B on the remote control
Now, you can ignite the Magic fireplace. It is important to follow the sepa-
rate operating instructions.
2.5 INTERMITTENT OPERATING MODE
The rotary control is not a toy. It is designed for intermittent operation and
NOT FOR CONTINUOUS OPERATION. Continuous operation is not required
for this application and is not logical for its use. Continuous back and forth
movement can damage the control, the motor and the displacement drive.
According to the technical data (see „1.1 Technical data“) the controller is
designed for intermittent service S3 with a duty cycle of 10%. This means
that operation can continue for a maximum of 1 minute, after which a break
of 9 minutes is necessary before the next movement is initiated. Since a
movement takes significantly less than a minute, this means, in practice:
• a maximum of 4 movements in immediate succession
• After that, at least 5 minutes of rest
In this way, all the operations which are necessary for the daily operation of
the fireplace can be conducted.
3. OPERATION
When using the electric rotary control for the Magic fireplace, rotating the
firebox is ONLY possible with the provided remote control. If the rotary con-
trol does not function, the rotary motor has to be mechanically decoupled
from the gearbox in order to be able to rotate the firebox back (service work:
contact Customer Service).
Please pay attention to intermittent operation, see „2.5 Intermittent
operating mode“
CAUTION: The rotary movements of the firebox are conducted with

tremendous force. Make sure that no foreign bodies, body parts or
other items are caught by or block the rotating parts. Failure to do so
will void the warranty and can cause significant damage.
Opening the firebox:
The supplied transmitter is programmed to the remote control. Rotating
the firebox for filling the firebox door is conducted by pressing Button A. A
started rotational movement cannot be stopped; the unit continues until the
firebox door is facing forward.
Closing the firebox:
Pressing Button B on the remote control returns the firebox to its home
position. A started rotational movement cannot be stopped.
Firebox door:
The firebox door is monitored by a door contact switch. For safety reasons,
rotational movements of the firebox are only possible if the firebox door is
closed.
Note:
Always keep the area of the door contact switch on the firebox door clean in
order to maintain functionality. Pollutants can cause malfunctions.
3.1 PROGRAMMING A TRANSMITTER
At the factory, the supplied transmitter is programmed to the remote control.
If a new or additional transmitter is delivered, it has to be programmed
to the existing controller. This work should be performed by a qualified
electrician or a service technician, since the control box has to be opened.

this is the radio receiver. Unscrew the cover of the receiver.
4. Insert the power plug (Caution: mains voltage in the control box, but not
in the radio receiver).

3.3 DELETING ALL TRANSMITTERS
This procedure deletes all hand transmitters which are programmed to this
control. This work should be performed by a qualified electrician or a service
technician, since the control box has to be opened.
1. Unplug the controller
2. Unscrew the lid of the control box
3. Diagonally across from the screen in the control box is a dark-gray box;
this is the radio receiver. Unscrew the cover of the receiver.
4. Insert the power plug (Caution: mains voltage in the control box, but not
in the radio receiver). See page 8.
5. Press and hold Programming Buttons C1 and C2. The LEDs will blink.
Hold the buttons until the blinking stops (about 15 seconds). All trans-
mitters have now been erased. The controller is not operational in this
mode, since no transmitter has been programmed.
3.4 INFORMATION ABOUT THE REMOTE CONTROL
Radio range:
The Magic rotation control is fitted as standard with a high-quality radio
system, which guarantees safe operation. The range is up to 50 metres, and
the radio signal also goes through walls. Visual contact with the fireplace
or the control box is not necessary. Under certain environmental conditions,
the range of the radio system might be limited.
The following factors can affect the range:
• weak transmitter batteries
• the location where the control box is installed
• building parts reinforced with steel, such as reinforced concrete ceilings
or walls
• radio activity in the area (radio and television broadcasting masts, CB
radio, mobile telephony)
5. Simultaneously press Programming Button C1 and Button A on the
remote control. The LED on Channel C1 will then light up briefly.
6. CAUTION: If C1 is released before Transmitter Button A is pressed, can-
cel the programming by briefly pressing Button C2.
7. Simultaneously press Programming Button C2 and Button B on the
remote control. The LED on Channel C2 will then light up briefly.
8. CAUTION: If C2 is released before Transmitter Button B is pressed, can-
cel the programming by briefly pressing Button C1.
3.2 DELETING SPECIFIC TRANSMITTERS
This work should be performed by a qualified electrician or a service tech-
nician, since the control box has to be opened.

this is the radio receiver. Unscrew the cover of the receiver.
9. Insert the power plug (Caution: mains voltage in the control box, but not
in the radio receiver). See page 8.
1. Press and hold Programming Buttons C1 and C2. The LEDs will blink.
Now, quickly press Button A to delete the remote control. The LEDs will
then go out again. Then, release Buttons C1 and C2. The whole process
cannot take longer than 10 seconds; otherwise, if C1 and C2 are held
for too long, the radio receiver passes into the format of the memory.
2. To erase Button B from the respective transmitter, press and hold But-
tons C1 and C2 again. Then, press Button B on the transmitter and
release C1 & C2 again. The whole process cannot take longer than 10
seconds; otherwise, if C1 and C2 are held for too long, the radio receiver
passes into the format of the memory.

Type of remote control:
As standard, the electric rotary control for the Magic is equipped with a
433.92 MHz radio control. Coding occurs over a rolling 64-bit code; i.e.
after each operation, the receiver and transmitter agree on a new code.
Trillions of different codes are available to the radio equipment. The assign-
ment of codes occurs automatically and cannot be influenced by the user.
3.5 REPLACING THE BATTERY
Two (2) Type CR2016 button-cell batteries are built into the transmitter.
When necessary, open the battery compartment of the remote control and
insert the new batteries with the correct polarity. Do not throw the old bat-
teries in your household waste; instead, dispose of them in accordance with
national regulations.
3.6 CUSTOMER INSTRUCTION
The operator is to be instructed by the installer regarding the function and
operation of the electric rotary control. In particular, safety-related informa-
tion (Chapters 2 and 3) has to be explained.
4. MAINTENANCE
The rotation control of the Magic fireplace is maintenance-free. The control
box does not contain any replacement parts or fuses to be maintained by
the user.
Always keep the area of the door contact switch on the firebox door clean in
order to maintain functionality. Pollutants can cause malfunctions.
Check the safety function of the door contact switch once per season (i.e. 4
times per year): When the firebox door is opened, no rotational movement of
the firebox is possible (see „2.4 Commissioning“).
For proper function, annual maintenance of the fireplace insert and its
accessories by a specialist (preferably BEFORE the heating season) is
essential!
Only original spare parts that have been approved by the manufacturer may

5. GUIDE
5.1 TROUBLESHOOTING
These malfunctions can be solved easily:
1. The rotary control does not react when the buttons are pressed
on the transmitter
Possible cause Remedy
No AC power • Check whether the outlet of the rotary control
leads to the voltage
The remote control battery is used up • Insert new batteries (see „3.5 Replacing the
battery“)
The transmitter is not programmed to the remote
control
• Programme the transmitter, see „3.1 Program-

The control box with the radio receiver is shielded
too much
• Readjust the antenna of the radio receiver,
opening the control box to do so (see pages 6)
• Change the position of the control box
Check whether other devices (mobile phones,
radio equipment, baby phone, etc.) might be
causing the disturbance
• Turn off the devices in question one after
the other to determine the cause of the
disturbance
2. Firebox is located somewhere between the positions "fully
extended" and "fully retracted"

Power failure during rotation • Check whether the outlet of the rotary control

If the disturbance could not be resolved through the above-mentioned
measures, the responsible stove fitter is to be informed. Other possible
malfunctions are described on the following pages.
5.2 SERVICE GUIDE
The following work is reserved for the stove fitter or the factory
service.
Note:
Before mechanical work is conducted on the Magic fireplace, unplug the
rotary control. In addition, the plug of the motor cable should be discon-
nected in order to be sure to prevent unwanted rotational movements.
A. Inspecting the control box
1. Unscrew the cover
2. Insert the power plug (but leave the motor unplugged)
3. The control LEDs have to light up on both switching power supplies
4. Turn the multimeter to DC voltage. Keep the reference connection (black
wire) on Terminal 3, the red wire on Terminal 2. There have to be 22 - 25
volts.
5. Measure between Terminal 4 (black) and Terminal 2 (red). There have to
be 22 - 25 volts here, as well. If this is not the case, check the contact
switch on the firebox door.
6. Measure at Terminal 13 (black) and Terminal 14 (red). There have to be
5 - 8 volts.

Tip: If no motor is available for the test, a measurement can be taken of
Terminals 15 and 16 instead to see if there are 5 - 8 Volts DC. These are the
output terminals to which the rotary motor is connected.
B. Inspecting the rotary motor
1. This requires an intact rotary control
2. Connect motor plug
3. Unscrew the cover of the rotary control
4. Connect the following terminals with individual wire bridges: 7 to 8, 11
to 12, 21 to 22
5. Connect the power plug
6. The control LEDs have to light up on both switching power supplies
7. Now, briefly press Screens K1 and K2 with a screw-
driver. The firebox then has to rotate forwards or backwards
CAUTION: The limit switches are bridged. Be sure to release the
depressed screen again in time before a final position is reached
8. Remove all jumpers again
C. Inspecting the limit switch
1. Separate the limit switch plug connection between the fireplace and the
control box
2. Pick up the plug (not the socket); the wires for the front limit switch are
the two leftmost pins (look at the plug-in side). The wires of the rear limit
switch are the two rightmost pins. The middle pin is not used.
3. In the non-actuated state, the limit switches have to have continuity, i.e.
a resistance of less than 2 ohms
4. In the actuated state, the resistance has to be greater than 5000 ohms
(contacts are then open, and the wire is interrupted)
Tip: The limit switch can also be checked from the control box. For this
purpose, unplug the power cord, leave the limit switch plugged together and
measure the resistance at Terminals 7 and 8 for the front limit switch and
at Terminals 11 and 12 for the rear limit switch (non-actuated <2 ohms,
actuated> 5,000 ohm)
7. Insert the motor plug; the status of the LEDs on the power supplies must
not change
8. Continue the test only if the firebox door is NOT in the extended
end position (i.e. it is NOT facing directly forward). If the door is
facing directly forwards, then move on to Point 14.
9. Measure at Terminal 4 (black) and Terminal 7 (red). There have to be
22 - 25 volts.
10.Measure at Terminal 4 (black) and Terminal 8 (red). There have to be
22 - 25 volts. If this is not the case, check the "front limit switch"
11.If there are 24 V on Terminal 8, then push in Screen K1 with a screw-
driver. The firebox has to move in the "Open" direction.
12.If this is not the case, install jumpers at Terminals 7 and 8. CAUTION:
This bridges the "front limit switch": the rotational movement
will no longer stop automatically! Be sure to stop in time to
release K1 again
13.Push in Screen K1 with a screwdriver. The firebox has to move in the
"Open" direction. CAUTION: Release K1 again in time!!
14.Measure at Terminal 4 (black) and Terminal 11 (red). There have to be
22 - 25 volts.
15.Measure at Terminal 4 (black) and Terminal 12 (red). There have to be
22 - 25 volts.
16.If this is not the case, install jumpers at Terminals 11 and 12. CAUTION:
This bridges the "rear limit switch": the rotational movement will
no longer stop automatically! Be sure to stop in time to release
K2 again
17.Push in Screen K2 with a screwdriver. The firebox has to move in the
"Closed" direction. CAUTION: Release K2 again in time!!
18.If still connected, remove the jumpers from Terminals 7 and 8 and Ter-
minals 11 and 12 again.
19.If the test has been successful up to this point, the control box is func-
tioning correctly.

D. Inspection of the door contact switch
1. Separate the plug connection between the fireplace and the control box
2. When the firebox door is opened, the contact switch has to have conti-
nuity, i.e. a resistance of less than 10 ohms
3. In the actuated state, the resistance has to be greater than 2,000 ohms
(contacts are then open, and the wire is interrupted)
Tip: The switch can also be checked from the control box. For this purpose,
unplug the power cord and measure the resistance at Terminals 21 and 22
(door open <10 ohms, door closed > 2,000 Ohm)
E. Creaking noises during rotation
1. Unplug the power cord
2. Unplug the motor
3. Remove the cover and identify the source of the noise
4. If necessary, adjust the distance of the rotary motor pinion to the ring
gear
5. Eliminate the noise and re-install the cover
6. GENERAL WARRANTY CONDITIONS
6.1 AREA OF APPLICATION
These standard warranty terms apply for the contractual relationship
between the manufacturer, Spartherm Feuerungstechnik GmbH, and the
dealer/distributor. These warranty conditions are not identical to the con-
tractual and warranty conditions governing relations between the dealer or
distributor and its customers.
6.2 GENERAL INFORMATION
This product has been manufactured in compliance with current standards of
quality control. The materials used have been carefully selected and – like our
entire production process – are subject to on-going quality control. Specialist
knowledge is required when assembling and installing the product. The product
must, therefore, only be installed and commissioned into service by specialist
technical staff, in compliance with current statutory provisions.
6.3 WARRANTY PERIOD
The standard warranty terms only apply within Germany and the European
Union. The warranty period and scope of the warranty are ensured within the
framework of these conditions outside the statutory warranty which remains
unaffected. Spartherm Feuerungstechnik GmbH offers a 5-year warranty for
• main body combustion cells
• main body fireplace stoves
• main body fireplace cassettes
• main body fireplace doors

Spartherm Feuerungstechnik GmbH offers a 24-month guarantee in respect
of the sliding door mechanism, operating components (such as handles, set-
ting levers, shock absorbers), electrical and electronic components (such as
fans), rotational speed controllers, the manufacturer's original spare parts, all
items purchased as extras, and all safety appliances.
Spartherm Feuerungstechnik GmbH offers a 6-month guarantee in respect
of consumables mounted in the combustion/firebox area, such as fire clay,
vermiculite, fire grates, seals and glass ceramics.
6.4 WARRANTY REQUIREMENTS
The warranty period shall begin on the date, on which the product is deliv-
ered to the dealer / distributor. This is to be substantiated by documen-
tation, such as invoices or delivery notes by the dealer/intermediary. The
warranty certificate for the product must be presented by the claimant upon
making a warranty claim.
Spartherm Feuerungstechnik GmbH is not obliged to satisfy any claim if
such documentation is not presented.
6.5 EXCLUSIONS FROM THE WARRANTY
These guarantee provisions do not cover:
• component wear
• fire clay/vermiculite, i.e. natural products which expand and contract
on exposure to cyclical heating and cooling. This can cause cracks to
appear. The combustion chamber linings will remain fully functional,
provided they are still in position and are not broken.
• the upper surfaces: discolouration of the coating or galvanic surfaces, due to
excessive thermal loading or over-heating.
• the push-up mechanism: failure to comply with installation guidelines,
resulting in over-heating of the guide rollers and bearings.
• seals: reductions in sealing strength due to seal hardening as a result
of thermal loading.
• glass ceramics: soiling, due to soot or other burnt-on combustion mate-
rials and visual deterioration due to thermal loading.
• careless transportation or incorrect storage
• inappropriate or careless handling of fragile components, such as glass
or ceramics
• incorrect operation and/or use
• lack of maintenance
• incorrect installation or equipment connection
• failure to comply with installation guidelines or operating instructions
• technical modifications made to the appliance by persons other than the
qualified technical staff
6.6 ELIMINATION OF DEFECTS / REPAIR
Independent of any statutory provisions acknowledged as taking precedence
over the terms of this guarantee, all necessary repair works resulting from
material or manufacturing defect shall be carried out free-of-charge and shall
not invalidate the remaining provisions of the warranty. Within the scope of
this warranty promise, Spartherm Feuerungstechnik GmbH reserves the right
to either remedy the fault or replace the device free of charge. The elimination
of defects shall take precedence.
The terms of this warranty shall not extend to any damage or compensation
not covered by statutory provisions.
6.7 EXTENSION TO THE WARRANTY PERIOD
The warranty period shall automatically be extended when claims made in
respect of these guarantee provisions result in the repair or replacement of
defective equipment.

6.8 SPARE PARTS
Only the manufacturer's own components, or replacement parts recom-
mended and approved by him, shall be used for appliance servicing and
repair.
6.9 LIABILITY
Damages and claims for compensation which are not the result of delivery
of a defective device from Spartherm Feuerungstechnik GmbH are excluded
and are not part of this warranty promise.
The above shall not include claims made in respect of statutory legal
requirements.
6.10 CLOSING REMARKS
In addition to these warranty conditions and our commitment to them, our
dealers and contractual partners are pledged to assist you in both word and
deed. We expressly recommend that our fireplaces and stoves are regularly
inspected by a qualified technician .
We reserve the right to make alterations to the technical data contained
herein and accept no liability in respect of any errors made.
