1. SAFETY INFORMATION

1.1 Electrical Safety

This unit may only be used in areas and facilities which comply with the relevant applicable legal

regulations. The unit must be fitted with a shockproof (earthed) plug.

1.2 Prevention of Explosions

This unit must not be used in areas where flammable gas or vapour may be found.

1.3 User Safety

•If you suffer or may suffer from one or more of the specified contra-indications (see: „When not to

use ?“ on the main "fitvibe" menu) you must consult expert medical advice before using the "fitvibe"

vibration unit. Section 3.1 of this manual provides a comprehensive overview of all contra-indications.

•Stop using the "fitvibe" IMMEDIATELY if you experience any of the following symptoms:

-your muscles tense uncontrollably during static exercises;

-movement is no longer rhythmic and smooth during dynamic exercises;

-you feel dizziness while training;

-you feel pain while training;

-you feel unwell, nauseous or experience cramping.

•This unit is not suitable for use in damp environments.

•Make sure that this user manual is kept with the unit at all times.

1.4 Environmental Conditions for Transporting and Storing the Unit

While still in its packaging, the unit can be stored and transported (for a maximum of 15 weeks) under the

following conditions:

•Temperature Range: -20 °C - +60 °C;

•Relative Air Humidity: 10 % - 100 %, including condensation;

•Atmospheric Pressure: 500 hPa - 1060 hPa.

1.5 Using the Unit

The unit must only be operated by authorised and trained personnel (see Vibration Training). The "fitvibe"

vibration unit is designed solely for vibration training.

The permissible temperature range during operation is +10 °C to +40 °C.

1.6 Conformity

This unit conforms to the requirements of the low-voltage guidelines 73/23/EEC and EMC guidelines

89/336/EEC.

See Section 5 for details of manufacturer’s liability (FAULTS, GUARANTEE, MAINTENANCE AND

CLEANING).

2.4 Delivery Inspections

On delivery, inspect the unit to make sure that it has not been damaged during transport and that all

accessories are intact and complete (see Section 2.1). Inform the supplier immediately in the event of any

damage or missing items. Do not use the unit if it has been damaged.

2.5 Mains Voltage

Your unit is suitable for use either with a mains voltage of 230 V, 50-60 Hz or 115 V, 50-60 Hz. Check the

label and the back of the control panel to make sure the rated voltage of the unit matches that of your

region (connecting the unit to a higher voltage can cause irrepairable damage to the unit).

2.6 Attaching the Support to the Vibration Plate (Diagram 1)

The handrail must be fitted to the vibration plate before using the "fitvibe" unit.

We recommend that installation of the "fitvibe" be carried out by two people. The SW 17 socket spanner

(30) as well as the enclosed hexagonal nuts (31) and spring washers (32) should be used during

installation.

Before attaching the handrail, position the vibration plate in the location where it will be used. The unit

must be placed on a solid concrete floor.

Now attach the handrail to the vibration plate as follows:

Tilt the plate forwards so that it rests securely on its long narrow front edge. Place a chair approximately 1

meter away from the plate. Attach the handrail support to the four bolts on the rear of the vibration plate.

Rest the upper part of the handrail on the chair to hold it in place (see Diagram 1).

Attach a spring washer and hexagonal nut to each of the bolts in turn. Simply slide a washer over each of

the bolts. When fitting the hexagonal bolts, it is helpful to place a nut in the socket spanner and then

place it on the bolt. Turn the spanner clockwise to tighten the nut. Repeat this process for each bolt.

Tighten the hexagonal nuts sufficiently to ensure the handrail is securely attached to the vibration plate.

Do not tighten them fully. (Note: The hexagonal nuts are self-locking to prevent them from being loosened

by vibration. Some light resistance can be felt when tightening them.)

Place the vibration plate upright and adjust the handrail so that it is perpendicular to the plate. Now fully

tighten the hexagonal nuts.

2.7 Connecting and Switching On the "fitvibe" Vibration Unit (Diagram 2)

Use the plug (22) to connect the cable (23) leading from the vibration plate (1) to the control panel (6).

Make sure that the small ridge on the plug is facing downwards before attempting to connect it to the

control panel. Tighten the plug fully. Now connect the hand-held switch (16) to the control panel.

The power input (20) is located on the bottom of the control panel towards the back. Use the main switch

to switch on the “fitvibe” vibration unit.

A welcome message appears on the display. Simply press any key to go to the main menu.

In the lower right corner of the screen, the software version number and a character that shows whether

or not the apparatus is fitted with a smart card reader can be seen.

2.8 System Settings

The "fitvibe" unit features a multiplicity of system settings which allow you to finely tune the unit to your

own specific requirements. However, when you start the unit for the first time you should take some time

to study the pre-programmed settings before making any necessary changes.

To access the system settings menu from the main menu,

press the system settings button:

Using the combined rotary and push button (11), you can select the various menu options.

2.8.1 Language Selection

You can set the display to one of a variety of languages. Select the Language option and use the

rotary/push button to select the language you want.

2.8.2 Contrast

Use the Contrast option to adjust the contrast of the display.

2.8.3 Key Beep

Use this option to turn the key beep on or off.

2.8.4 Sound Level

Use this option to set the volume for the acoustical signal.

2.8.5 Acoustic Signal

Use this option to turn the acoustic signal you can hear at the end of a repose time on or off.

2.9 Decommissioning and Disposal

At the end of its useful service life, the following information should be taken into account when disposing

of the "fitvibe" unit:

•Bring the unit together with all accessories to a specialist waste disposal company which deals with

electronic goods or one which can forward the unit to such a company. In regions where suppliers

are legally obliged to dispose of their products, you can, of course return the unit to your local

supplier.

•This type of product is generally prohibited from being disposed of as ordinary household refuse

because of the plastics and electronic components used during manufacture. If you decide to dispose

of the unit yourself, please bear the following environmental information in mind:

The "fitvibe" vibration unit and its components can be classified as follows:

•The vibration plate, control panel, cable, straps and soft mats are categorised as electronic scrap

or small chemical waste. These components contain, among other things, lead, zinc, copper,

iron, various other metals and various types of plastics. In the majority of cases, this waste is

treated as chemical waste and must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations which

apply to your area.

•Packaging materials and manuals are recyclable. This material can be brought to an appropriate

recycling centre or disposed of in household refuse depending on the waste disposal regulations

in your area.

The disposal methods described here also apply when disposing of the unit’s accessories.

3. IMPORTANT INFORMATION BEFORE USE

3.1 "„When not to use ?“" - Contra indications

Before starting vibration training, always make sure that the user does not or could not potentially suffer

from any of the contra-indications listed below. If this is the case, do not start vibration training. In case of

doubt, always consult expert medical advice from a doctor, specialist or "fitvibe" trainer.

Contra-indications:

- Acute inflammations or infections

- Acute joint idisorders and arthroses

- Acute migraine

- Acute rheumatoid arthritis

- Cardiovascular diseases (heart and vascular)

- Epilepsy

- Fresh (surgery) wounds

- Gallstones

- Heart rhythm disorders

- Heart valve disorders

- Joint implants, like foot, knee and hip implants

- Kidney stones

- Acute low back complaints like hernia, discopathy, spondylolysis

- Metal or synthetical implants like pacemaker, intra-uterine device (IUD)

- Pregnancy

- Recent thrombosis or possible thrombotic complaints

- Severe diabetics

- Tumors

The full list of contra-indications can be displayed on the

control panel. To do this, go to the main menu and select

"When not to use ?".

3.2 Important Information Before Using For the First Time

Always check the contra-indications first, see Section 3.1.

(Sports) shoes with flexible rubber soles should always be worn.

The first training session should take place under the supervision of an instructor. See Section 3.4,

"The Very First fitvibe Training Session".

Closely follow all instructions on how to take the initial position and how to carry out the exercise

and take rest periods as advised. This will ensure the best possible results and help prevent

injuries.

Drink a sports drink containing sugar or water about ½ - 1 hour before the training session.

For an optimum and complete training effect, we advise conventional fitness training alongside

strength training with the fitvibe.

The fitvibe features a number of training schedules, which can be used for building up the training.

You can deviate from this schedule, in dialog with the instructor (to access this, select “Make your

own” from the main menu).

3.3 Using the Soft Mat

In exercises where you are putting your weight on the plate with any part of the body other than the feet,

for example hands or buttocks, the mat supplied with the "fitvibe" must be placed on the vibration plate

before taking the starting position. The mat is illustrated on the display in the instructions for exercises by

a black surface on the vibration plate.

3.4 The First “fitvibe” Training Session

For the very first training session, it is important to get used to the plate’s vibrations. One way of doing

this is to experience the unit’s vibration at a low frequency such as 20 Hz (over “Make your own” from the

main menu this frequency can be selected), first with just one foot on the plate and then with the other

foot. Then in the ‘calf’ position (standing on tips of the toe) on the plate, with the knees bent. Always

stand on the tips of the toe at first, so that the vibrations can be absorbed as much as possible by the

calves and upper legs.

You should never stand on the plate with your limbs locked straight (arms or legs, depending on the

starting position). This is because the muscles don’t get the chance to absorb the vibrations if the limbs

are straight, and the vibration is transmitted through the skeleton to the skull. If the users can feel the

vibrations in their head (noticeable in the voice and/or the eyes), then they are not standing properly on

the vibration plate and the initial position must be corrected.

For abdominal muscle exercises, you sit on the plate; you must first get used to the vibration before

starting with these exercises.

3.5 When should the training be stopped early?

The training should be stopped as soon as any symptoms of overfatigue arise, in order to prevent

overfatigue and/or injuries.

4. USING FITVIBE

4.1 Introduction

The vibrating device “fitvibe” causes mechanical motions in three directions; the major vector is in the

vertical direction.

The fitvibe unit is extremely easy to use and the operating of the unit is clear and logical. Once you have

become familiar with the functions of the various buttons and the rotary/push button, you should have no

problems using the fitvibe.

fitvibe allows you to use a number of fixed exercises which you can access via the options Training and

Relaxation. Using the “Make your own” option, you can set the parameters for your own personalised

exercises.

When the fitvibe is equipped with a card reader, you have the possibility to use the “Intelligent Card

System” (ICS), based on specially developed fitvibe easyTrain-software. (See also point 5)

The end of this manual contains a fold-out diagram of the unit. The numbers used in the following

sections correspond to those in the diagram.

4.2 The fitvibe Control Buttons

4.2.1 The Combined Rotary/Push Button

The rotary/push button (11) on the control panel is used to control the majority of fitvibe’s functions.

Rotate this button to highlight an option and press it to select the function. By repeatedly rotating and

pressing this button you can highlight and select the various menu options and parameters in the fitvibe.

When you select and option or parameter, the next screen automatically appears on the display.

4.2.2 " Skip forward” Button

By using the button

,pre-programmed exercises as well as exercises proposed by ICS can be skipped.

4.2.3 "Return to Main Menu” Button

Using the "Return to Main Menu" button

you can go directly to the main menu on the display.

4.2.4 "System Settings / Skip back” Button

Using the "System Settings" button

you can open the system settings menu. See Section 2.8.

When using the ICS chip cards, skipped exercises can be re-activated.

4.2.5 Yellow and Green Indicator Lights

If you are in the middle of programming a training session on the fitvibe, the yellow indicator light (13)

beside the start/stop button on the control panel shows that the vibration training cannot be started. The

green indicator (14) only lights when the fitvibe is in exercise mode and/or vibration training can be

started.

4.2.6 Start/Stop Buttons

The fitvibe unit has three start/stop buttons which can be used independent to start and stop the vibration:

an orange-coloured Start/Stop button (3) is located on the control panel below the rotary/push

button (11);

a Start/Stop footswitch (12) is located on the handrail support at the same level as the vibration

plate;

the hand-held remote switch (16) is connected by a cable to the control panel.

You can use any of these buttons to start and stop the vibration from any position.

4.2.7 Quick start

Pushing the start/stop button allows starting the "fitvibe" immediately without passing the main menu.

Therefore you’ll need to push the start/stop button three times. The "fitvibe" will then start at a frequency

of 30 Hz. You can change this frequency during the exercise.

If you want to change the vibrating settings you can do so after the first push using the rotary button

(4.2.1).

4.3 Adjusting the Height of the Handrail

The height of the handrail can be adjusted to suit the length of each individual user or to suit the particular

exercise being carried out. Use the clamp mechanism (25) to adjust the height of the handrail.

4.4 Using the Hand and Foot Straps

Straps can be used to transfer the vibration to particular

parts of the body, such as the hamstrings. The vibrations

are transmitted via the non-elastic straps to the body parts

concerned. Depending on the particular exercise they are

fastened to the fixation points (2) on the vibration plate .

Reference marks of various colours have been stitched

onto the straps, so that the length of one strap can easily

be adjusted to match the other.

4.5 fitvibe Parameters

•Frequency: 20 - 60 Hz

•Intensity (amplitude): high / low

•Active time: 0 - 100 sec

•Rest time: 0 - 100 sec

•Repetitions: 1 - 10 x

•Type of exercise: static/dynamic (dynamic: the direction of movements is shown

using arrows in the relevant exercise instructions)

Repetitions: With exercises where only one side of the body is used (for example, one leg), the number of

repetitions must always be set to at least 2 to ensure that the exercise is carried out first for one side (e.

g., the left leg) and repeated (for the right leg).

4.5.1 Active Time and Rest Time

Active time is the time, in which the exercise is carried out (vibration on). Rest time is the time when the

user must stop and rest before proceeding with the next exercise.

Once vibration training has started, the active time on the display counts down to 0:00 sec.. When the

active time reaches 0:00 sec., rest time starts counting down to 0:00 sec. During this time, the next

exercise is displayed on the screen to allow you to assume the correct initial position in time for the next

exercise. When the rest time has elapsed, the green indicator lights to let you know that you can continue

with the next vibration exercise.

In case you activated the acoustic signal in the system settings, the last five seconds of the repose time

will be accompanied by four short and one long signal.

The rest time can be skipped by pushing the start/stop buttons.

4.6 Fixed "Training" Programs

When you select the option “Training”, use the rotary/push

button (11) to scroll through a number of screens until you

come to a fixed training program, which corresponds your

own personal training needs and fitness level.

When you select the option “Training” from the main menu, the following screens appear until you finally

reach the exercise screen:

SELECT THE MUSCLE GROUP you want to train;

SELECT PERFORMANCE LEVEL;

SELECT THE TRAINING WEEK at the relevant level;

OVERVIEW containing information on the recommended training program,

The EXERCISE screen now appears and you can start the vibration training by using one of the

three Start/Stop buttons.

4.7 The Exercise Screen

When the first exercise has ended, the rest time count down and the next exercise is shown on the

display. This lets you follow each recommended exercise in sequence.

You can always skip an exercise using the “skip” button.

Once the final exercise is complete, the training session for that particular muscle group is finished.

4.8 Fixed "Relaxation" Programs

Relaxation exercises are set in the same way as the

training exercise (Section 4.6), with the exception that

there is no need to select a level or week number. This is

because this information is not relevant for relaxation

exercises.

4.9 "Make your own" Mode

Advanced users can program their own individual exercise

parameters using the option "Make your own". When you

select this option, you can use the rotary/push button (11)

to select one of the preprogrammed exercises.

Once you have selected the desired exercise, you can use

the rotary/push button (11) to change the preset

parameters as required. If a parameter is highlighted in

black when you select it, you can change its value using

the rotary/push button (11). To save the new value, simply

press the rotary/push button (11).

By pushing the start/stop buttons the frequency

parameter will be high lighted. This allows you to vary

the frequency during vibration. By pushing the start/stop

button again, the vibration will start.

When the exercise is ended, you can select and program another exercise using the same method.

4.10 Intensifying and building up the training

Building up the training can be done in a variety of ways. The conditions can be gradually intensified by:

increasing the frequency parameter of vibration

extending the duration of the activity

shortening the rest period

raising the amplitude from low to high

increasing the number of repetitions

Increasing the difficulty of an exercise intensifies the exercise and its effects. This can be done in a

variety of ways:

- more difficult starting position,

- progressing from static to dynamic exercises,

- performing the dynamic exercises more rapidly,

- increasing the stretching of the muscles.

5. THE OPERATION OF THE FITVIBE WITH

CHIPCARDS

If a chip card reader is installed in the fitvibe, this is shown, when the appliance is switched on, by the

following icon in the lower right-hand corner of the display window.

After pressing the combined turning-knob/press-button once, the “Insert Card” display screen appears.

Thus, the operator is now invited to insert the chip card.

The chip card reader (33) is mounted externally on the right-hand side of the control unit (6). The fitvibe

chip card must be inserted into the chip card reader (33) in the direction of the arrow until it gently clicks

into place. In this way, the chip is then situated on the side facing the fitvibe chip card reader.

The fitvibe chip card reader accepts two different types of personalised fitvibe chip cards:

•the ICS chip card, on which the data is stored when using the Intelligent Chip card System (ICS)

•the Timecard, which serves only to limit the active vibration time of the fitvibe appliance according

to a pre-programmed number of minutes.

The chip card reader automatically recognizes which type of chip card has been inserted and

automatically activates the corresponding operating software.

Two different error messages my appear on the ´“Insert Card” display:

•chip card incorrectly inserted (not in the direction of the arrow or chip on the reverse side of the

card)

•Incorrect PIN (card PIN does not correspond to the fitvibe appliance PIN).

Using a secret code number (PIN):

To prevent the unauthorized use of chip cards, the owner of the fitvibe can be protected by using his own

secret PIN.

For this purpose, a 4-digit PIN must be programmed on the chip cards and subsequently the same

PIN has to be inserted in the fitvibe appliance.

The selectable PIN can be a series of numbers between 0001 and 9999.

Important; The fitvibe chip cards, the fitvibe appliances, the ICS software and/ or the card charging device

are supplied with the default setting of 0000, so that they can be used immediately without PIN settings.

When programming a PIN, it is absolutely essential that one identical PIN is used in the ICS software, in

the card charging device and in the fitvibe appliance, respectively.

Once a chip card has been programmed with a PIN, either by the ICS-Software or by the card charging

device, the chip card PIN can no longer be changed.

If the PIN has to be changed for some important reason, the previously used chip cards can no longer be

used. They can be neutralised by the manufacturer. For this purpose, please contact your local

distribution partner.

Always begin by programming the PIN on the chip cards! The PIN of the fitvibe appliance can be

changed to match the PIN of the chip cards at any time, as required.

Programming the chip card PIN by means of the ICS software or in the card charging device:

This can be done by following the steps shown by the menu on the display screen of the control unit.

To view the menu "Insert PIN", start from the display screen “Insert Card” and press the key “Skip

forward” five times at one-second intervals.

Then follow the instructions on the display screen.

5.1 Operating the fitvibe appliance using the “Timecard”

The timecard limits the active vibration time of the appliance in accordance with the number of minutes

pre-programmed on the chip card.

Example: If the fitvibe chip card has been programmed for 30 minutes, exercises can be performed on

the appliance during a total active vibration time not exceeding 30 minutes. Pauses for resting are not

deducted from the card. Remaining, active exercise time can be used on different days.

Once the number of minutes programmed on the fitvibe chip card have been used up, the fitvibe chip

card can be re-charged with further exercise minutes by means of the card charging device.

Before initiating the active vibration time, the chip card reader compares the active vibration time required

for the respective exercise sequence with the time remaining on the chip card and, in the case of

discrepancy, shows a clear error message on the display screen. In the event that the time remaining on

the chip card is insufficient to complete the selected exercise sequence, it is still possible to start the

appliance. In this case, the appliance continues to work until the remaining time expires and then stops

the vibration.

The fitvibe chip card can be charged with a maximum of 999 minutes.

The procedure for using the card charging device is explained in the accompanying operating

instructions.

Once the time card has been read by the fitvibe appliance, the “Main Menu” appears on the display

screen. From this point on, the operation of the fitvibe appliance is then identical to the operation of the

fitvibe appliance without a card reader (see Point 4 of the Operating Instructions).

5.2 Operating the fitvibe appliance fitted with an ICS chipcard reader

The ICS chip cards bear the data for the self-designed training or treatment programme to be carried out

using the fitvibe appliance. For this purpose, the easyTrain fitvibe software, which has to be installed in

the computer, and the fitvibe card writer that goes with it are needed.

The procedure for using the easyTrain fitvibe software is explained in the accompanying operating

instructions.

When the ICS chip card has been read by the fitvibe appliance, the “Welcome” window appears on the

display screen

There, it is possible to select either, “Training/Treatment” or “Timecard Only”. If the ICS chip card has

been programmed for extra “Training/Treatment” time, it is possible to select “Timecard Only”. In this

case, the Main Menu appears on the display screen as described under Point 5.1. To continue, just follow

the procedure according to Point 4 of the operating instructions.

Under the menu item “Training/Treatment”, the serial number of the current exercise sequence and the

total number of treatment sequences contained in the ICS chip card programme are shown. In addition,

the designated title of the programme stored on the card is also displayed.

After selecting the menu item “Training/Treatment”, by pressing the turning-knob/press-button (11), the

first exercise is shown on the display screen. The vibration is activated by pressing the „start/stop“

button.

By means of the key “Skip forward” (10) it is possible to leave out exercises or, alternatively, to go back

and start exercise that have been left out by pressing the key “Skip back” (8).

Once an exercise has been skipped and a subsequent exercise started, the skipped exercises can no

longer be activated.

Example: The selected exercise sequence contains 6 exercises. The first exercise of the sequence has

been completed and the second and third exercises have been skipped. Once the fourth exercise has

been started, the second and third exercises can no longer be activated!

If the last exercise of the current exercise sequence is skipped inadvertently, the display screen shows

the message “End of Exercise Sequence”

This false step can be corrected within approx. 3 seconds by using the “Skip back” key to activate the last

exercise. After 3 seconds have elapsed, it is no longer possible to activate the last exercise. The entire

exercise sequence is thus completed.

On removing the ICS chip card from the card reader of the fitvibe appliance, the display screen always

returns to the “Insert Card” window.

On re-inserting the ICS chip card, the Treatment Programme is re-started with the next exercise

sequence or the next exercise within the sequence from the point where it was interrupted.

In the normal case, after completing all of the exercises, the ICS chip card cannot be used again without

being re-programmed. Unless, however, the ICS chip card has been programmed as a “no time limit”

card, then it can be used again without limitation.

6. FAULTS, GUARANTEE, MAINTENANCE AND

CLEANING

6.1 Faults

•THE UNIT WILL NOT SWITCH ON.

Check and make sure that the mains power is on, that the mains switch is turned on and that the

power cable and fuses are o.k. If the fuses have blown, you can change them yourself but you MUST

use the same type of fuse. The exact type of fuse is listed on the unit’s type plate. You can order fuses

from your fitvibe supplier

•A FOREIGN LANGUAGE appears on the display.

Using the system settings menu, select the desired language. If the error still appears, contact your

local supplier.

•NONE OF THE CONTROL ELEMENTS WORK.

Switch the unit off and on again. If the error still appears, contact your local supplier.

6.2 Guarantee and Service

•any repairs, modifications or enhancements must only be carried out by authorised personnel;

•the electrical system in the area where the unit is to be used must comply with all applicable

regulations;

•the unit must only be operated by qualified personnel in accordance with the operating instructions;

•the unit must only be used for its intended purpose;

•the unit must be serviced regularly and in accordance with the relevant information;

•the legal requirements relating to the use of the unit must be observed at all times.

With the exception of the fuses, the fitvibe unit does not contain any user-serviceable parts. Uniphy

Elektromedizin GmbH & Co. KG and its representatives shall not be held responsible for damage,

injuries, faults or malfunctions caused as a result of improper use or failure to observe maintenance

instructions. Servicing and guarantees are provided through your local supplier. The suppliers terms of

delivery shall apply. The guarantee will become void if the unit is not used in accordance with the points

outlined above. The expected working life of the unit is 10 years.

6.3 Maintenance

The manufacturer recommend that the unit be serviced annually by qualified service personnel. The

following checks should be carried out at the very least:

•check all screws and mechanical joints

•visual inspection of all cables and connectors

•check the functioning of the hand-held remote and foot switches

•inspect the rubber springs for signs of damage

6.4 Cleaning the Unit

Clean the vibration plate, control unit and accessories using a moisten cloth. Use a mild, non-abrasive

cleaning agent.

The handrail can be cleaned using a standard surface disinfectant.
