GENERAL INSTALLATION DATA
This equipment is designed and sold for commercial use only by personnel trained and
experienced in its operation and is not sold for consumer use in and around the home nor
for use directly by the general public in food service locations.
The Star series gas vertical broiler is equipped for the type of gas indicated on the
nameplatemountedontheunit.Allgasunitsareshippedfromthefactoryforusewith
natural gas.
-IMPORTANT-
Be sure to remove all paper protection and packing material from unit prior to
lighting.
This appliance should be installed in a non-combustible location only.
The installation of theAppliance must conform to the NATIONAL FUELGAS
CODE "ANSI Z223.1 - LATEST EDITION" AND ALL LOCAL GAS COMPANY
RULES AND REGULATIONS.
IN CANADA INSTALLATION SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
CURRENT CAN/CGA-B149.1 NATURAL GAS INSTALLATION CODE OR
CAN/CGA-B149.2 PROPANE INSTALLATION CODE AND LOCAL CODES
WHERE APPLICABLE.
NOTICE
For your protection, we recommend a qualied installing agency install this appliance.
They should be familiar with gas installations and your local gas requirements. In any
case, your gas company should be called to approve the nal installation.
This appliance, its pressure regulator and its individual shutoff valve must be disconnected
from the gas supply piping system during any pressure testing of that system at test
pressures in excess of 1/2 PSIG. This appliance and its pressure regulator must be isolated
from the gas supply piping system by closing its individual manual shutoff valve during
anypressuretesting(5"WCNAT,10"WCLP)usingthe1/8"NPTttingonthegassupply
piping system at test pressures equal to or less than 1/2 PSIG.
EXHAUST CANOPY
Open broilers inherently create a good deal of heat and smoke and should be installed
underanefcientexhausthoodwithameprooflters.Averticaldistanceofnotlessthan
48"shallbeprovidedbetweenthetopoftheapplianceandltersoranyothercombustible
material. Exhaust installation must conform to local codes.

UNCRATING AND INSPECTING
Unpack the unit and components from the shipping container. Remove all visible packing
materialandthosefrominsidethecookingchamber.Ifdamageisdiscovered,leaclaim
immediatelywiththecarrierthathandledtheshipment.Donotoperatetheunitifitwas
damaged during shipping.
ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATION
Theunitwasshippedfullyassembledandreadytoplugintoastandardoutletspeciedfor
itsvoltageandampdraw.Ifimproperelectricalsupplyisdetermined,contactaqualied
electricianpriortousingtheunit.Removalandreplacementofthepowercordandplugwill
voidthewarranty.Forassistance,contactyourlocalauthorizedserviceagentforserviceor
required maintenance.
Place unit on a level surface.
Thisbroilercanbeveryhotduringoperation.Usecarewhencarvingthemeadduringuse.
Allowenoughspacearoundtheunitforadequateventilation.Readalllabelsontheunitand
followtheirinstructions.
VENTILATION & CLEARANCES
Localcodesprevail.Thesearethe“authorityhavingjurisdiction”asstatedbytheNationalFire
ProtectionAssociation,Inc.inNFPA96-LatestEdition.Forfurtherventilationinformationsee
below.
A ventilation hood should be used to remove heat and cooking odors. The hood and HVAC
installation must meet local codes to gain approval by the authority having jurisdiction.
Requirements may vary throughout the country depending on the location by city, county, and
state. Obtain information from the authority having jurisdiction to determine the requirements
foryourinstallation.Obtaininformationandreviewcopiesofcodesordocumentsthatwill
be used to inspect and approve your installation. Your ventilation hood supplier and HVAC
contractor should be contacted to provide guidance.
ELECTRIC MODEL
The broilers are equipped for the voltage indicated on the nameplate mounted on the unit.
Theywilloperateonalternatingcurrent(AC)only.Beforemakinganyelectricalconnectionto
thisunit,checkthatthepowersupplyisadequateforthevoltage,amperageandrequirements
stated on the nameplate.
Disconnecttheunitfromthepowersourcebeforeinstallingorremovinganyparts.
Beabsolutelysurethatthegroundconnectionforthereceptacleisproperlywired.Donot
connectequipmenttopowerwithoutpropergroundconnections.Impropergroundingmay
result in personal injury or fatality.
Before making any electrical connection be sure to read the data plate located on
the unit.

GAS MODEL
Check unit nameplate for correct gas supply to the appliance. Be sure to remove all paper
protection and packing material from the unit prior to lighting. Provide adequate air supply
and ventilation to the appliance.
Amanualshut-offvalve(notsupplied)shouldbeinstalledupstreamfromtheunit&within6ft
of the appliance.

AIR SUPPLY
Provisions for adequate air supply must be furnished.
AIR INTAKES IN BOTTOM
Make certain the air intake openings in the bottom & back of the appliance are not obstructed.
They are essential for proper combustion and operation of the appliance.
EXHAUST CANOPY
It is essential that facilities be provided to carry off fumes and gases.
CHECKING FOR GAS LEAKS
Beforelighting,checkalljointsinthegassupplylineforleaks.DONOTUSEOPENFLAME
TOCHECKFORLEAKS.Usesoapandwatersolution.
LIGHTING AND SHUT DOWN
1. Turnallvalvesto“OFF”position
2. Wait 5 minutes
3. Turnpilotlightingvalveadjustmentscrewcounterclockwise¼turnandthenlight
standingpilot,andadjustameheightto1/4”inch
4. Turn “ON” gas valves to light main burner
5. Forcompleteshutdown,shutoffgasvalvesandthenturndownpilotvalve
adjustingscrewtoshutoffpilotgas.

BURNER OPERATION
Eachburneriscontrolledbyanindividualhigh-low,on-offvalve.Avarietyofbroiling
temperaturesmaybeobtainedbyturningtheburnervalveknobtoanypositionbetween
ON and LO. It is possible through this arrangement to have a high heat or searing section,
whilehavingalowheatnishingorholdingsection.Forthesearingoperation,turnthevalve
counterclockwiseforthesectiontoapositionof“ON”orclosetoit.Forholdingornishing,
turn the valves closer to the “LO” position on the dial. You select the heat pattern you like, and
setthevalvesaccordingly.Besureburnersarestayingfullylitwhensetinlowpositions.
CLEANING
An oven type cleaner can be used to clean all stainless steel surfaces. DO NOT spray
cleanerintoburners.Coverburnerswithfoiltoprotectthemwhilecleaning,beingcertainto
removethefoilwhennished.
Be sure to clean the unit daily after each use.
DO NOT USE STEEL WOOL OR ABRASIVE CLEANERS TO CLEAN THE STAINLESS
STEEL SURFACES.

WARRANTY EXCLUSIONS
THE FOLLOWING WILL NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.
•Any product which has not been used, cleaned, maintained,
or installed in accordance with the directions published in the
appropriate installation sheet and/or owner's manual as well
as national and local codes, including incorrect gas, electrical,
or water connection. Star is not liable for any unit which has
been mishandled, abused, misapplied, subjected to chlorides, harsh
chemicals, or caustic cleaners, damaged from exposure
to hard water, modified by unauthorized personnel, damaged
by flood, fire, or other acts of nature [or God], or which have
an altered or missing serial number.
• Installation, labor, and job checkouts, calibration of heat controls,
air and gas burner/bypass/pilot adjustments, gas or electrical
system checks, voltage and phase conversions, cleaning
of equipment, or seasoning of griddle surface.
• Replacement of fuses or resetting of circuit breakers, safety
controls, or reset buttons.
• Replacement of broken or damaged glass components, quartz
heating elements, and light bulbs.
• Labor charges for all removable parts in gas charbroilers and
hotplates, including but not limited to burners, grates, and
radiants.
• Any labor charges incurred by delays, waiting time, or operating
restrictions that hinder a service technician’s ability to perform
service.
•Parts that fail or are damaged due to normal wear or labor for
replacement of Items that can easily be replaced during a daily
cleaning routine. such as but not limited to silicone belts, PTFE
non-stick sheets, knobs, control labels, bulbs, fuses, quartz heating
elements, baskets, racks, and grease drawers.
•Components that should be replaced when damaged or worn,
but have been field-repaired instead [eg. field-welded fry pots]
• Any loss of business or profits.
ADDITIONAL WARRANTIES
Specialty/chain specific versions may also have additional
and/or extended warranties.
LIMITED EQUIPMENT WARRANTY
Star Manufacturing [as well as its subsidiaries] warranties new products
to be free from defects in material and/or workmanship for a period
of one [1] year from the date of original installation, except as noted
below. Defects that occur as a result of normal use, within the time
period and limitations defined in this warranty, will at Star’s discretion
have the parts replaced or repaired by Star or a Star-authorized service
agency.
THIS WARRANTY IS SUBJECT TO ALL LISTED CONDITIONS.
Repairs performed under this warranty are to be performed by a Star-
authorized service agency. Star will not be responsible for charges
incurred or service performed by non-authorized repair agencies.
In all cases, the nearest Star-authorized service agency must be used.
Star will be responsible for normal labor charges incurred in the repair
or replacement of a warrantied product within 50 miles (80.5 km) of
an authorized service agency. Time and expense charges for anything
beyond that distance will be the responsibility of the owner. All labor
will need to be performed during regular service hours. Any overtime
premium will be charged to the owner. For all shipments outside the
U.S.A. and Canada, please see the International Warranty for specific
details.
It is the responsibility of the owner to inspect and report any shipping
damage claims, hidden or otherwise, promptly following delivery.
No mileage or travel charges will be honored on any equipment that is
deemed portable. In general, equipment with a cord and plug weighing
less than 50 lb. (22.7 kg) is considered portable and should be taken or
shipped to the closest authorized service agency, transportation prepaid
.
