Do not attempt any maintenance or repair work except tensioning
the saw chain. All other work to be performed by Centenary Hire
or by a person trained in the maintenance of STIHL chainsaws.
Please refer to the reverse side of this sheet for further
information about maintenance of the chainsaw during the course
of the hire.
EXPECTATIONS ABOUT CHAINSAW HIRE & CHAINSAW PERFORMANCE
FUEL & CHAIN OIL
CHAINSAW CHAIN SHARPNESS
MAINTENANCE
Pre mixed two stroke fuel and chain oil (bar
lubricant) have been provided with the hire of
the chainsaw at no extra cost.
Please ensure that only Centenary Hire two
stroke fuel and chain oil (bar lubricant) are
used in the chainsaw to prevent damage to the
chainsaw.
Check fuel and chain oil levels approximately
every 10 mins of chainsaw operation.
Two stroke machines are harder to start
if they have been refuelled only after
having run out of fuel.
Chainsaw chains have been sharpened using
a dedicated chain sharpener which is set at the
correct angle and depth.
Please satisfy yourself, by way of visual
inspection, that the chain on the chainsaw is
sharp before commencing work. Also, please
take note of the cutting performance during the
first cut with the chainsaw.
During the course of cutting work the chain
sharpness will dull and performance will
gradually reduce. The rate at which the chain
sharpness will dull can be dependant upon
several factors including but not limited to:
The type of wood that is being cut.
Palm trees in particular, as well as hardwoods
will naturally dull the chain faster than other
woods.
The location of the cut on the wood.
The base/roots of trees often contain internal
dirt particles which quickly dull a chainsaw
chain.
Insufficient supply of chain oil.
Failure to regularly top up the chain oil tank
may result in the chain cutting dry causing the
chain to dull as well as possible chain and bar
damage.
Contact with the ground / dirt.
Even brief and shallow contact with dirt on the
ground will cause the chain to immediately
become blunt. Dirt on the cutting surface of
the wood will also quickly dull the chain.
During the course of hire if the chainsaw
requires maintenance (with the exception of
chain tensioning*) it must be returned to
Centenary Hire so that it can be carried out by
our trained staff.
Required maintenance may be but is not
limited to:
Replacing a chain due to bluntness.
Please note: The first replacement chain is
provided at no extra cost. Subsequent chains
will incur a sharpening charge.
Replacing the starter rope due to breakage.
* You may also return the chainsaw to
Centenary Hire for the saw chain to be
tensioned at no extra cost.
