Introduction
This manual assists you with the o eration or maintenance of the Stryker Model 2971 Isolibrium™ su ort surface.
Read this manual before o erating or maintaining this roduct. Set methods and rocedures to educate and train your
staff on the safe o eration or maintenance of this roduct.
WARNING
• Im ro er usage of the roduct can cause injury to the atient or o erator. O erate the roduct only as described in
this manual.
• Do not change the roduct or any com onents of the roduct. Modifying the roduct can cause un redictable
o eration that results in injury to the atient or o erator. Modifying the roduct also voids its warranty.
Notes
• This manual is a ermanent art of the roduct and should remain with the roduct even if the roduct is sold.
• Stryker continually seeks advancements in roduct design and quality. Therefore, while this manual contains the

Product description
Isolibrium, Stryker Model 2971, is a owered su ort surface with features that rovide Pressure Redistribution, Low Air
Loss, and Lateral Rotation. Isolibrium is for use with the InTouch® (revisions 4.0 or higher software) bed frame.
Isolibrium and InTouch are an integrated bed and surface system that caregivers use to assist in atient care.
Intended use
The Isolibrium su ort surface assists in the revention of ressure ulcers. All categories or stages of ressure ulcers
including I, II, III, IV, unstageable, and dee tissue injury. Before im lementing Isolibrium, a healthcare rofessional
should com lete a clinical evaluation of risk factors and skin assessments. The Isolibrium atient-s ecific immersion to
assist in managing microclimate of the atient skin, atient re ositioning, early mobility, and the revention of ulmonary
com lications.
The InTouch and Isolibrium system is for use by atients in an acute care setting. The acute care settings may include
critical care, ste down, rogressive care, medical / surgical, sub-acute care, and ost anesthesia care unit (PACU), or
other locations as rescribed. The atient, accessories, and any extra loading must not exceed the safe working load of
InTouch or Isolibrium.
The o erators for the system are healthcare rofessionals (nurses, nurse aids, and doctors) who can use all system
o erations (for exam le: bed motion functions, nurse call, siderail communications, bed exit, or thera y o tions). Patients
and bystanders can use the bed motion functions, nurse call, and siderail communications but are restricted from the use
of the owered su ort surface functions. Trained rofessionals install, service, and calibrate the InTouch and
Isolibrium system.
Expected service life
Isolibrium su ort surface has a five year ex ected service life under normal use, conditions, and with a ro riate
eriodic maintenance.
Isolibrium covers (to and bottom), air ods, and turn bladders have a two year ex ected service life under normal use,
and conditions.

Contraindications
Stryker romotes the clinical assessment of each atient and a ro riate usage by the o erator.
The InTouch and Isolibrium system is not intended:
• to su ort a atient in a rone osition
• for use with atients 35 inches or less in height
• for use with atients that weigh less than 50 ounds
• for use with a full oxygen tent
• to su ort more than one individual at a time
• for use with a atient less than two years old
• in a home healthcare environment
• as a sterile roduct
• for use in the resence of flammable anesthetic mixture with air rich in oxygen or nitrous oxide
Note: When Isolibrium is on the InTouch bed, a half-oxygen tent within the sidreails is allowable. The half-oxygen
tent must be above the area of the su ort surface that contains the foot box.
Isolibrium is not intended for use on atients with the following:
• unstable fractures
• unstable s inal cord injuries
Isolibrium Lateral Rotation and Turn Assist features are for use only after you com lete a clinical assessment. This is to
make sure that no adverse reaction would result in atients with the following:
• s inal cord injury
• skeletal traction
• significant hemo tysis
• bleeding disorders
• rib fractures
• for whom the techniques cause increased dys nea or wheezing
• hemodynamic instable
• increased intracranial ressure
• skeletal traction

Physical Conce ts Pressure Redistribution The ability of a su ort surface to distribute load over the
contact areas of the human body.
Pressure Redistribution set oint Allows the o erator to in ut atient weight range resulting
in automatic change of zoned sensor technology allowing
immersion and envelo ment.
Lateral Rotation Thera y A feature of a su ort surface that rovides rotation about
a longitudinal axis as characterized by degree of atient
turn, duration, and frequency.
Turn Assist A feature of a su ort surface that rovides a single
osition turn about a longitudinal axis.
Max Inflate Allows maximum firmness inflation for use when boosting
a atient and on lateral transfer, Promotes atient ease
with dangling, egress, and ingress.
Microclimate The to surface cover draws excess moisture away from
the atients skin and su ort surface interface.
Low Air Loss (LAL) Provides air flow to assist in the management of
(microclimate) the skin.

oxygen or nitrous oxide other than nasal, mask ty e, or half bed-length tent ty e.
• Do not move the su ort surface without assistance.
• Do not o erate the su ort surface without the Isolibrium to and bottom covers and linens.
• Always osition the su ort surface on the InTouch bed frame to that the su ort surface does not contact the
headboard.
• Do not use when ga s between the su ort surface and the bed frame are resent to revent the risk of entra ment.
Only use the Isolibrium su ort surface with InTouch bed frames.
• Do not attach the ower cord to any moving arts of the InTouch bed frame. Im ro er routing of the ower cord
could cause the risk of electric shock, inching the ower cord, or interfere with bed functions.
• Always confirm ro er functionality of the scale system after you install the su ort surface to revent roduct
malfunction.
• Do not use extension cords with Isolibrium. It is only intended to be owered by InTouch with the ower cord
su lied.
• Always use the ower source rovided by the InTouch foot end auxiliary ower outlet with Isolibrium.
• Always make sure that the o erator has access to the CPR stra s.
• Do not stick needles into a su ort surface through the su ort surface cover. Holes may allow body fluids to enter
the inside (inner core) of the su ort surface and could cause cross-contamination, roduct damage, or roduct
malfunction.
• Do not use fitted sheets with this su ort surface.
• Always center the atient on the su ort surface. Align the atient’s head toward the headboard before starting
functions. Check the atient frequently to make sure that you maintain the ro er ositioning.
• Always make sure that the tubing and wiring that is connected to the atient is long enough, stable, and secure
during Lateral Rotation or Turn Assist.
• Always raise all of the InTouch bed siderails before starting Turn Assist or Lateral Rotation functions.
• Do not exceed the safe working load of the Isolibrium su ort surface. Excess weight could cause un redictable
safety and erformance of this system.
• Always use extra caution when reading radiology images taken of a atient on a su ort surface because internal
com onents can cause artifacts and distort readings.
• Always monitor the atient condition at regular intervals for atient safety.
• Do not use the su ort surface as a transfer device to avoid the risk of atient injury.
• Do not immerse the su ort surface or foot box in cleaning or disinfectant solutions.
• Do not allow fluid to ool on the su ort surface. Fluids may cause degradation of com onents and may cause
un redictable safety and erformance of this roduct.
• Always ins ect the su ort surface covers (to and bottom) for tears, unctures, excessive wear, and misaligned
zi ers as you clean the covers. If the cover is com romised, remove the su ort surface from service immediately
and re lace the cover to revent cross-contamination.

Summary of safety precautions
WARNING (CONTINUE )
• Always erform reventive maintenance based on the usage level of the roduct. An increase in usage which may
include more frequent cleaning and disinfection, may adversely affect the life of the su ort surface.
• Always disinfect the su ort surface between atients, to avoid the risk of cross-contamination and infection.
• Always make sure that you wi e each roduct with clean water and thoroughly dry each roduct after cleaning or
disinfecting. Some cleaning and disinfecting agents are corrosive in nature and may cause damage to the roduct if
you use them im ro erly. If you do not ro erly rinse and dry the roduct, a corrosive residue may be left on the
surface of the roduct that could cause remature degradation of critical com onents. Failure to follow these
cleaning or disinfecting instructions may void your warranty.
• Always un lug the roduct ower cord before cleaning or disinfecting to avoid the risk of shock.
• Do not service or erform maintenance while the roduct is in use.
CAUTION
• Do not allow shar objects to come into contact with the su ort surface that could uncture, tear, or cut the cover.
• Do not allow shar edges from the X-ray late to come in contact with the su ort surface cover. The
recommendation is you cover the X-ray late with a illow case or other device before lacement under the atient.
If damaged, remove the su ort surface cover from service immediately to revent cross contamination.
• Do not iron, dry-clean, or tumble dry the su ort surface covers.
• Do not ower wash the su ort surface.
• Always com letely dry the su ort surface covers before storing, adding linens, or lacing a atient on the surface.
• Do not over ex ose the covers to higher concentration disinfectant solutions as these may degrade the covers.
• Do not use accelerated hydrogen eroxides or quaternaries that contain glycol ethers as they may damage the cover
or the CPR stra rint.
• Always use ESD rotective equi ment before o ening antistatic bags and servicing electronic arts.
• Do not lace un rotected circuit boards on the floor.

Installation
The roduct must reach the ambient o erating tem erature before installation or o eration to avoid the risk of ermanent
damage to this roduct. U on initial installation, reset the CPR.

Note: Do not lug into the ower source until the assembly is com lete.
Prerequisite: Minimum of two o erators are required to install the su ort surface.
1. Put the InTouch bed into the flat osition before installing the su ort surface.
2. If owered, un lug the InTouch from the wall outlet and turn the battery switch to off.
3. Remove the InTouch headboard and footboard from the bed.
4. Position an o erator at each end of the su ort surface and lift onto the InTouch bed frame.
5. Reinstall the InTouch headboard and footboard.
6. Position the su ort surface against the footboard. Allow a small air ga at the headboard.
7. Connect the integration cable from the su ort surface foot end to the InTouch cable ada ter (B) (Figure 1-1 on
age 1-13).
8. Turn the locking collars clockwise to secure the connection.
9. Place the linens on the su ort surface as loose as ossible to avoid creating a hammocking effect and increasing
interface ressures.
10. Plug the ower cord for the su ort surface into the InTouch foot end auxiliary ower outlet (A) (Figure 1-1 on age
1-13).
