Electronic Control System
The electronic control system of your Sub-Zero wine
storage unit gives you the most accurate temperature
control for your peace of min . You can be assure your
wine is store at the temperature you have selecte ,
whether it is long-term aging or staging wine for consump-
tion that evening.
A microprocessor accurately samples the temperature
every secon in each zone to be sure the temperatures
stay within one egree of your preset temperatures. It also
monitors the unit’s operation an will let you know if
service may be necessary.

TEMPERATURE CONTROL
With all wine storage mo els you have the capability of
setting two istinct temperatures within the two zones of
your wine storage unit. Your mo el has been thoroughly
teste an inspecte before it was shippe from the
factory. The temperature has been preset at 45°F (7°C) in
the smaller zone an 55°F (13°C) in the larger zone.
There are two sets of WARMER an COLDER key pa s on
the control panel, one for each of the two separate
temperature zones. An arrow next to the temperature in
the LED isplay, will in icate which temperature corre-
spon s with each zone. Refer to the illustration below.
The COLDER key pa on the control panel allows you to
ecrease the temperature in the correspon ing zone by
one egree each time you epress the key pa .
Remember that the temperature range in each zone is
38°F (3°C) to 65°F (18°C) an you can set two ifferent
temperatures—one for each zone.
Similar to the COLDER key pa , you can raise the temper-
ature in the correspon ing zone by one egree each time
you epress the WARMER key pa on the control panel.

Electronic Control System
LED DISPLAY
Electronic control system functions, such as igital
temperatures an service in icators, are shown in the LED
isplay, locate on the control panel. The temperatures of
each zone will be visible through the glass oor of your
wine storage unit. If you are using your unit frequently, the
numbers may fluctuate.
UNIT ON/OFF
The UNIT ON/OFF key pa on the control panel will shut
off all electrical power to the wine storage unit for cleaning
or service.
LIGHTS ON/OFF
All wine storage units have the capability of having the
lights on in epen ently of the oor’s opening an closing.
This will allow you to isplay your collection of wine for
special occasions.
To have the lights remain on in epen ently of the oor’s
opening an closing, press the LIGHTS ON/OFF key pa .
Press the key pa again to have the lights to go off when
the oor is close .
ALARM FEATURE
If the microprocessor etects temperature fluctuations or
a faulty component, you will hear an au ible beep an a
bell symbol will flash in the LED isplay on the control
panel. Also, if the unit is tie in with your home security, it
will alert this system. You can eactivate the alarm feature
an the au ible soun by epressing the BELL symbol
key pa . If the alarm is eactivate , the bell will not be
visible in the LED isplay.
SABBATH MODE (STAR-K)
All wine storage units feature the Sabbath mo e. This is
for certain religious observances where the lights nee to
be turne off.
To initiate Sabbath mo e, while the unit is on press the
UNIT ON/OFF key pa so that OFF is visible in the LED
isplay on the control panel. Your unit will be off.
Then press an hol the UNIT ON/OFF key pa for 10
secon s. This will turn the unit back on an will isable
the lights. To return the unit to normal lighting, press an
release the UNIT ON/OFF key pa .

VISUAL SERVICE DISPLAY
The electronic control system monitors temperatures as
well as the unit’s operation. If there is a temperature or
operation problem, you will notice the wor SERVICE
illuminate in the LED isplay on the control panel. Before
calling for service, please check to see if your con enser
area nee s cleaning. Refer to con enser cleaning on
page 17.
You should not leave the lights on overnight or for
extremely long periods of time. The heat from the
lights will cause the unit to work unnecessarily hard.

Refrigerator Drawers—Model 427R
TEMPERATURE CONTROL
For mo el 427R, the refrigerator rawers have their own
microprocessor an control panel locate in the top
rawer. The preset temperature is 38°F (3°C) from the
factory, but you have the option of a justing the tempera-
ture within the range of 34°F (1°C) to 45°F (7°C). The LCD
isplay on the control panel isplays the actual tempera-
ture of both rawers in your unit.
The COLDER key pa on the control panel allows you to
ecrease the temperature of the rawers by one egree
each time you epress the key pa . You can raise the
temperature in the rawers by one egree each time you
epress the WARMER key pa on the control panel.
ALARM FEATURE
For mo el 427R, an alarm will make an au ible beeping
soun if a rawer has been left open acci entally.
When the alarm is activate , a bell symbol will be illumi-
nate in the LCD isplay of the control panel. When the
alarm is eactivate , the bell symbol will not be visible.
Temperature Settings
In all instances, the temperature settings are your in ivi -
ual preference, an with the wine storage mo el you
purchase , you can be confi ent the unit will maintain
those temperatures. A chart with suggeste storing an
serving temperatures can be foun on page 19.
While each temperature zone of your wine storage unit has
a range of 38°F (3°C) to 65°F (18°C), you can set the
temperatures at the exact temperature you think best—
whether it’s for consumption or for uplicating the temper-
atures of cellars for long term storage.

WINE STORAGE SHELVES
All Sub-Zero wine storage mo els have roller-assembly
shelves with a full three-quarter extension for easy access
to all store bottles.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Mo els 424 an 424FS have roller-
assembly shelves in all instances with the exception of the
bottom stationary shelf.
The shelves have a soli natural cherry woo facing that
can be replace with other woo to match your cabinetry.
Details on how to replace the shelves’ woo facing can be
foun in the Sub-Zero esign gui e. Check our website at
subzero.com or call Sub-Zero at 800-222-7820.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you choose to stain or seal the
shelves’ natural cherry woo facing, be aware that some
of these substances are hazar ous an will amage
store wine.
Your wine storage unit is inten e to maximize the storage
of bottles in an i eal environment where the wine stays in
contact with the cork at an even temperature. Refer to the
illustration for the proper arrangement of bottles on the
shelves.
If you are storing half bottles or magnums, they are
nestle in the shelves in the same manner as the 750 ml
bottles.
WINE STORAGE SHELF REMOVAL
To remove a wine storage shelf, pull the shelf out to its full
extension, gently an evenly lift up on both si es of the
front of the shelf an remove. Refer to the illustration
above. Reverse the proce ure to reinstall the shelf.

Be sure to unload all bottles from the wine storage
shelf before removing it.
When storing magnum bottles you must remove the
shelf just above the intended storage shelf to allow
for these larger bottles to be moved in and out of the
unit. Failure to do so will cause the bottles to break.

DISPLAY SHELF
Mo els 427, 427R an WS-30 feature a isplay shelf that
allows you to isplay those prize bottles in your wine
collection. It is illuminate with iscreet lighting mounte
in the control panel. The isplay shelf is esigne so that
the wine will stay in proper contact with the cork. Refer to
the illustration below.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The isplay shelf is esigne for only
one row of bottles lai in such a way that the bottom
portion of the bottle is against the woo rail an the top
an cork of the bottle are towar the back of the wine
storage unit.

DISPLAY SHELF REMOVAL
To remove the isplay shelf, pull the shelf out to its full
extension, gently an evenly lift up on both si es of the

DRAWER DIVIDER
Each rawer of the mo el 427R has a ivi er that can be
easily remove .
To remove, pull the rawer ivi er forwar an pivot the
back e ge of the ivi er away from the back of the
rawer. Reverse the proce ure to reinstall the ivi er.

Refrigerator Drawers—Model 427R
DRAWER REMOVAL
IMPORTANT NOTE: For mo el 427R, you must isconnect
the control cable before removing the top rawer. Refer to
the illustration below.
To remove a rawer from the mo el 427R, pull the rawer
open until it stops. Lift up evenly on both si es of the
rawer front an pull out, as shown in the illustration
below.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure to unloa the contents before
removing the rawer.
To replace a rawer, raise the front of the rawer up an
place onto the rawer sli e tracks. Be sure to engage the
front holes of the rawer sli e with the small pegs at the
en of each rail.

Door Operation
DOOR CLOSING
The oor of your wine storage unit has a spring-loa e
closure mechanism. As the oor is close , the oor closer
engages to help close an seal the oor.
90° DOOR STOP
If your wine storage unit is positione in a corner, you may
want to limit the oor opening to 90°.
IMPORTANT NOTE: A 90° oor stop is not available for
mo els 424 an 424FS.
For mo els 427 an 427R, a 90° oor stop built into the
hinge system. You can easily actuate the stop by using a
bla e-type screw river an rotating the brass cam in both
the top an bottom hinges. You must position both stops
at 90° if you want to safely use the oor. You can go to the
maximum of a 105° oor opening by using the screw river
an rotating the brass cam to the next stop. Refer to the
illustration below.
For mo el WS-30, a 90° oor stop ships with the unit an
is locate behin the flip-up grille. Refer to the illustration
below.

The door swing on models 427 and 427R may cause
severe finger pinching. Watch that fingers are not
placed in the door opening on the hinge side when
the door is open.

Lighting Information
CABINET LIGHTING
For mo els 424 an 424FS, rope-style lighting is mounte
to the top of the cabinet an casca es own the entire
front of the unit.
Mo els 427, 427R an WS-30 have iscreet lighting
provi e in two places. Rope-style lighting is mounte to
the top of the cabinet an a itional lighting is mounte in
the control panel to illuminate the isplay shelf. Refer to
the illustration.
These lights have an exten e life an it shoul be some
time before they nee to be replace . If you have
problems with the cabinet lighting or nee replacements,
contact your Sub-Zero authorize service center or call
800-222-7820.

DRAWER LIGHTING—MODEL 427R
Lighting is recesse into the top area of each refrigerator
rawer compartment of mo el 427R. Refer to the illustra-
tion above.
To replace a light bulb in the rawer compartment, you
must pull the rawer out to its maximum extension. It is
recommen e that you remove the rawer. Refer to page
13 for the rawer removal proce ure.
Remove the 15-watt bulb by unscrewing it from its socket
an complete the reinstallation by following the reverse
steps.

GLASS DOOR CLEANING
The glass oor panel can be cleane using any stan ar
glass cleaner available on the market to ay.
INTERIOR CLEANING
To clean interior surfaces an removable parts, wash with
a mil solution of soap an lukewarm water with a little
baking so a. Do not use vinegar. Rinse an ry thor-
oughly. Avoi getting water on lights, control panel an the
soli cherry woo facing on the shelves.
Do not use abrasive cleaners or cloths on any of the
interior or exterior surfaces, inclu ing the glass oor
panel.
Before cleaning the unit shut off power to the unit at
the control panel.
Under no circumstances should you use a metallic
or highly abrasive cleaner or cloth as this will
remove the carbon finish or scratch the classic or
platinum finishes.
Cleaning
STAINLESS STEEL EXTERIOR
Classic and platinum stainless steel finishes: To clean
the exterior of the classic an platinum stainless steel
finishes, use a soft, nonabrasive stainless steel cleaner like
Signature polish an apply with a soft 100% lint-free cloth.
Signature polish is available from Signature Limite
Laboratory, P. O. Box 13436, Dayton, Ohio 45413-0436,
or 877-376-5474 (toll free).
Carbon stainless steel finish: The carbon stainless steel
finish uses the interest of brushe steel to bring out the
maximum metallic luster of its charcoal backgroun .
Carbon stainless steel can be cleane with mil soap an
water.
Different light types an source locations can result in
variations in sha ing on ifferent components an areas
of large appliances. These variations are normal with the
carbon finish an a to the unique character of colore
stainless steel.
To bring out the natural luster of all three finishes, lightly
wipe the surface with a water- ampene microfiber cloth
followe by a ry polishing chamois. All work shoul
follow the grain irection of the finish. Better results are
obtaine by keeping the cloth in continuous contact with
the stainless steel.

Cleaning
CONDENSER CLEANING
Clean the con enser area every three to six months. The
cleaning sche ule will epen on the amount of ust an
lint that accumulates in this area.
For mo els 424 an 424FS, the con enser is locate
behin the kickplate. First, remove the kickplate to expose
the con enser area. Refer to the illustration below.
The con enser for mo els 427 an 427R is locate behin
the kickplate/grille. Remove the screws hol ing the kick-
plate/grille. This assembly will sli e forwar easily, giving
you access to the con enser area. Refer to the illustration
below.
For mo el WS-30, the con enser is locate behin the
grille. First, pull out on the bottom e ge of the grill an tilt
forwar . Refer to the illustration.
Use a soft bristle brush an vacuum hose to remove ust
an lint from the con enser area.
IMPORTANT NOTE: To avoi ben ing the con enser fins,
be sure to vacuum in the irection of the fins (up an
own).
Failure to clean the condenser could result in
temperature loss or mechanical failure or damage.
Before cleaning the condenser shut off power to the
unit at the control panel. When you clean the
condenser wear gloves to avoid injury from the
sharp condenser fins.

a just the other temperature zone to accommo ate the
wine you will be enjoying soon.
The temperature in this zone can be anything you choose.

is very subjective, with everyone’s palate reacting iffer-
ently to ifferent temperatures.
