General information
Instructions for use for SR 601, SR 602 should be read before use.
Hoods SR 601/SR 602 together with the fan unit SR 500 or SR 700 are included in the Sundstrom fan-
assisted respiratory protective device system conforming to EN 12941:1998, TH3.
When selecting the head top, some of the factors that must be taken into account are as follows:
• Types of pollutants
• Concentrations
• Work intensity
• Protection requirements in addition to the need for respiratory protection device
Risk analysis should be carried out by a person who has suitable training and experience in the area.

1. Assembly

1.1 Remove the protective
film from the visor, inside and
outside.
1.2 Fit the head harness and
air-duct into the hood.
1.3 Pull down the rear part of
the hood over the air-duct.
1.4 Fit the hood into the two
fixing grooves on the air-duct,
one on each side.

1.5 Fit the hood into the two
fixing grooves on the air-duct,
one on each side.
1.6 Check that the air-duct´s
front locking pin is in the
correct position.
1.7 Fit the breathing hose into
the air-duct
1.8 Pull down the rear part of
the hood to the correct
position over the air-
duct/breathing hose.

2. Performance check, minimum flow

2.1 Connect the hose to the
fan unit and turn it clockwise
about 1/8 of a turn.
2.2 Place the head top in the
flow meter and start the fan
unit.
Tip! When the bag is turned
with the measuring tube
inwards it can be used as a
storage bag
2.3 Place the head top in the
flow meter bag and start the
fan unit.
Grip the lower part of the bag
in order to seal around the
hose.
Grip around the measuring
tube and hold the tube
vertical.
The ball should now float
level with or just over the
175 l/min marking.
If the minimum flow is not
achieved, check that:
-The flow meter is vertical
-The ball moves freely
-The bag seals well around
the hose.

3. Putting the hood on

3.1 Start the fan unit. Grip
both sides of the hood
opening with your hands.
Draw the hood carefully over
your head.
3.2 Adjust the hood’s
(SR 602) neck seal using the
elastic neck strap.
3.3 Check and adjust so that
the breathing hose runs along
your back and that it is not
twisted.
Adjust the hood so that it fits closely and comfortably.
If necessary, adjust the head harness. There are a lot of adjustment
options. See section 4.
To adjust the head harness easier, remove the head harness from the
hood.

4. Adjust the head harness

4.1 How deep the head ends
up in the head part depends
on where you position the
head crown, there are 5
options on each side.
4.2 How high the hood sits on
the head.
If necessary, adjust the head
harness in height by
lengthening or shortening the
two straps for the top of the
head.
4.3 Adjust if the face is too
close to the visor. There are
two options.
4.4 Adjustment of the angle of
the headband around the
back of the head.
The two pins can be placed in
the upper or lower holes.

4.5 Rough adjustment of the
width of the head harness.
Release the two pins and
extend or shorten the width of
the head harness. There are
two options.
4.6 Width adjustment of the
head harness.
If necessary, adjust the
circumference of the head
harness by means of the
knob at the rear of the head
harness.
4.7 The airflow can be
directed towards visor or face
for optimal comfort.

5. Cleaning

5.1 Sundström cleaning
tissues SR 5226 are
recommended for daily care.
If necessary, spray the hood
with 70 % ethanol or
isopropanol solution for
disinfection.
NOTE! Never use a solvent
for cleaning.
5.2 Clean the head harness
and the air-duct.
5.3 Clean the hood and leave
it to dry.
5.4 If the equipment is more
heavily soiled, use a soft
brush or sponge moistened
with a solution of water and
dishwashing detergent or the
like.
Rinse and let dry.

6. Maintenance schedule

Recommended minimum requirements on maintenance routines so
you will be certain that the equipment will always be in usable
condition.
Always use genuine Sundström parts. Do not modify the equipment.
The use of non-genuine parts or modification of the equipment may
reduce the protective function and put at risk the approvals received
by the product.

7. Change the sweatband

7.1 Remove the head
harness from the air-duct by
releasing the three fixing
points.
7.2 Remove the sweatband
by releasing the sweatband
from the spikes on the head
harness.
7.3 Push in the head harness
tongue into the new
sweatband.
Note how the sweatband is
turned!
7.4 Fold the sweatband
around the band of the head
harness and fit the spikes in
the holes.
Secure the two loose sockets
of the sweatband onto the
head harness.
Assemble in reverse order.

8. Change the head harness

8.1 Remove the head
harness from the air-
duct/hood by releasing the
three fixing points.
8.2 Fit a new sweatband
according to the instructions
in section 7.
Assemble in reverse order.

9. To change the hood

9.1 Pull the rear part of the
hood up on the air-duct.
Remove the breathing hose
from the air-duct.
9.2 Remove the hood from
the air-duct by releasing the
two fixing grooves and pull off
the hood from the head
harness and air-duct.
Assemble the new hood according to the instructions in section
1. Assemble

10. Change the air-duct

10.1 Remove the hood from
the air-duct by releasing the
two fixing grooves and pull off
the hood from the head
harness and air-duct.
10.2 Remove the air-duct
from the head harness by
releasing the three fixing
points.
Assemble the new air-duct in reverse order or see the instructions in
section 1. Assemble.
