The Control Panel
Ion/Power Button
This button turns the XJ-3000C air purifier "ON". The ionizer and non-ozone-producing UV lamp are
automatically engaged when the unit is in operation. This UV lamp is replaceable, and is located in
the filter cavity, behind the HEPA filter.
Sanitizer Button
A second, more powerful, ozone-producing UV lamp is used for sanitization, appropriate for situa-
tions where there are strong odors or heavy pollution present. This larger lamp is located inside the
air outlet. It is a permanent UV lamp, and does not require replacement. When the sanitizer is acti-
vated, make sure you are generally more than 12 inches away from the unit. The Sanitizer button
allows you to select the Off, Low, Medium, or High setting. Just hit the button until the LED light next
to the desired setting is lit. When there are no LED lights lit next to the Sanitizer button, then the XJ-
3000C will not produce ozone. On low, the XJ-3000C runs in intervals of 30 seconds "On", and 3
minutes "Off". On medium, the ozone generator runs in intervals of 3 minutes "On", and 3 minutes
"Off". On the high setting, it runs continuously. When operating the air purifier in Sanitizer Mode,
avoid periods of extended exposure. For instance, do not sleep in the same room as this air purifier
when it is being run in Sanitizer Mode. Those with sensitive respiratory systems should avoid being
in the same room as this air purifier when it is in Sanitizer Mode. This includes infants and young
children and invididuals with lung conditions, such as asthma.
Fan Speed/Air Flow
There are three fan speed options: low, medium, and high.
Timer
The timer can be set to 1, 2, or 4 hours. If none of these timer settings are selected, the XJ-3000C air
purifier will run continuously, which is generally best. If you are running the ozone on a high setting in
a small, enclosed area while you are gone, then you may want to use the timer to prevent the ozone
level from reaching excessively high levels.
Before Turning On The Air Purifier
zOpen the front cover and remove the air filter.
zRemove the plastic covering from the air filter.
zTear off the perforated cardboard from one side of the air filter
cartridge.
zPlace the air filter back into the air purifier and reinstall the
front cover.

Replacing the Filter Cartridge
Step # 1
Turn the unit "off" and open the front cover. If the white (Hepa) side of the
filter cartridge is dark gray in color, proceed to the next step. If the blue side
of the filter (pre-filter) is dirty, it can be carefully cleaned with hand-held
vacuum or other method of removing dirt from its fibers, in order to prolong
the life of the filter cartridge.
Step # 2
Remove the wrapping from the new filter cartridge, then remove the old
filter and throw it away. Next, place the new filter in its proper position.
Step # 3
Put the front cover back on and begin operating again.
Replacing the UV Bulb
Step # 1
Turn the unit “off” and open the front cover. Remove the air filter cartridge.
Step # 2
Remove the expired UV lamp and replace it with the new UV lamp. Handle the UV lamp on each end
in order to avoid breaking the lamp.
Step # 3
Press the lamp into the UV lamp slot, so the metal pins poking out each end of the UV bulb are firmly
in contact with the metal conductors inside each clamp. Close the plastic clamps over the lamp on
the each side.
Step # 4
Place the filter back in its compartment, and put the front cover back on. The air purifier is now ready
for operation again.
Placement
* Since the XJ-3000C air purifier uses a fan, and blows a strong current of air out the top of the unit,
it is not necessary to place the unit at a high elevation. It can be placed on the floor, on a table, a
countertop, or on a shelf.
* The back of the XJ-3000C should be at least 8 inches away from the wall to prevent discoloration of
the the wall. Also, there should not be any obstructions above the air outlet on top of the XJ-3000C
air purifier. There should be at least 2 feet of space between the top of the air purifier and any object
or surface above it.
* Keep the XJ-3000C at least 3 feet away from computers, televisions, and sensitive electrical
equipment, and two feet from occupants in the room while in operation.
* When the sanitizer is activated, make sure you are generally more than 12 inches away from the unit.
Caution!
Make sure that air filter cartridge is in place before operating the XJ-3000C air purifier, or direct UV
rays may escape through the front cover of the unit. Direct UV light can cause skin or eye damage.

Troubleshooting
Air Purifier Will Not Turn On
Make sure the front cover is firmly into place. Move it around and push it into place more firmly and
try to turn on the air purifier again.
UV Lamp Not Working
The XJ-3000C uses two UV lamps, and if working properly, both will illuminate when activated. The
first of these lamps is located in the filter cavity, behind the HEPA filter. This is a non-ozone-produc-
ing UV lamp, and it is activated when the air purifier is turned “on”, and it remains activated until the
air purifier is turned “off”. This lamp is replaceable, and generally lasts about 12 months. In a dark
room, you should be able to see the blue glow from this lamp through the air outlet from the top of the
machine when the Santizer is off. If you are unable to see this blue glow, and it has been in use for
less than a year, then open the front cover, remove the filter, and push on eachend of the bulb to
make sure it is tightly positioned in the UV lamp holder. The second UV lamp is an ozone-producing
sanitizer lamp. This is a permanent lamp that does not require replacement. It is located inside the
air outlet at the top of the machine. It is only activated when the air purifier is set to Sanitizer Mode
(via Sanitizer button). When activated, you should be able to see a second blue glow by looking into
the air outlet. If you cannot see this second blue glow, then it may mean the sanitizer UV lamp is not
functioning properly. If this is the case, contact the Surround Air service department.
Air Purification Technologies
Air Ionizer
zEffectively removes particulate from the air, such as allergens (including mold and dust mites), fine
dust particles, bacteria, viruses, chemical fumes and other ultra-fine particles that a filter cannot
capture.
zIncreases the effectiveness of the Hepa and activated carbon filter system by causing particles to
magnetically attract together, resulting in larger particles that are easier for the filter to capture.
zDisinfects viruses and bacteria trapped in the filtration bank of the XJ-3000C that would normally
reproduce in the typical filter.
zHas the ability to remove airborne particles away from the air purifier, in areas of the room where
the filter has little effect. This is due to the fact that ions can circulate throughout a room. Negative
ion circulation is enhanced as a result of the fan.
Hepa Air Filter
zRemoves 99.97% of particles (.3 microns in size) that pass through the filter, preventing them from
becoming recirculated into the air. Largely considered the most effective type of air filter.
zCaptures a high volume of floating dust and other particles, including many of the ionized particles
that would otherwise just settle to the ground if a typical ionizer were used.
Germicidal UV Light
zUV (ultraviolet) light is scientifically proven to destroy a large variety of microbial contaminates,
such as viruses, germs, bacteria and fungi (including mold).
zUltraviolet light has been used for years by the medical field (including hospitals) to sanitize rooms
and equipment, in order to prevent the spread of illness and disease.
zRecommended by Centers for Disease Control for its ability to destroy biological pollutants.
Activated Carbon Air Filter
zSpecializes in capturing and neutralizing chemicals, gases, odors and cigarette smoke, which the
Hepa filter cannot capture.
Programmable Ozonator
zPowerful odor eliminator, which is a weakness of most other air purification methods.
zIn the Surround Air XJ-3000C, the ozone can be completely disabled if it is not needed or wanted,
while still allowing the ionizer, UV lamp and filters to run at full power.
