The Control Panel
Ion/Power Button
ThisbuttonturnstheXJ-3000EHEPA&ionicairpurifier"ON".TheionizerandUVlampare
automaticallyengagedwhentheunitis in operation.
Fan Speed/Air Flow
Thereare three fan speedoptions:low, medium, and high.
Timer
Thetimercanbesetto1,2,or4hours.Ifnoneofthesetimersettingsareselected,theXJ-3000Eionic
airpurifier willrun continuously,whichisgenerally best.
Before Turning On The Air Purifier
zOpen the front cover and remove the air filter.
zRemove the plastic covering from the air filter.
zTear off the perforated cardboard from one side of the air filter
cartridge.
zPlace the air filter back into the air purifier and reinstall the
front cover.

Replacing the Filter Cartridge
Step # 1
Turntheunit"off"and openthefront cover. If thewhite(Hepa)side of thefilter
cartridgeisdarkgrayincolor, proceed to the next step. If the blue side of the
filter(pre-filter) isdirty,itcan be carefullycleanedwith hand-heldvacuumor
othermethodof removing dirt from its fibers, in order to prolong the lifeofthe
filtercartridge.
Step # 2
Removethe wrapping fromthenew filter cartridge,thenremove the oldfilter
andthrow it away. Next, place the newfilterinitsproperposition.
Step # 3
Putthefront cover back on and begin operating again.
Replacing the UV Bulb
Step # 1
Turntheunit“off”andopen thefrontcover.Removetheair filtercartridge.
Step # 2
Removetheexpired UV lamp and replace it with the newUVlamp.Handlethe UV lamp on each end in
ordertoavoidbreakingthelamp.
Step # 3
Pressthelampintothe UV lamp slot, so the metal pins poking out each end of the UV bulb are firmlyin
contactwith the metal conductors inside eachclamp.Closethe plastic clamps over thelampontheeach
side.
Step # 4
Placethefilter back in its compartment, and put thefrontcoverbackon.The air purifier is now ready for
operationagain.
Placement
* Since the XJ-3000E HEPA& ionic air purifier uses a fan, and blows a strong current of air out the top of
theunit,it is not necessary to placetheunitata high elevation. It can be placedonthefloor, on a table,a
countertop,or onashelf.
*Theback of the XJ-3000E should be at least 8 inches awayfromthewalltopreventdiscoloration of the
thewall.Also, there should notbeanyobstructionsabove the air outlet ontopofthe XJ-3000E air
purifier.Thereshouldbeatleast2feetofspacebetween the top of the air purifier and any object or
surfaceabove it.
*Finally,keepthe XJ-3000E at least 3 feet away fromcomputers,televisions,andsensitiveelectrical
equipment.
Caution!
Make sure that air filter cartridge is in place before operating the XJ-3000E air purifier, or direct UV rays
mayescape through the front cover oftheunit.Direct UV light can causeskinoreye damage.

Troubleshooting
Strange Smell From the Unit
TheXJ-3000Eair purifier may cause a subtle“burning”smell.This can be attributed to oneoftwothings.
First,the UV lamp producesonlytraceamounts of ozone, whichmaybedetected in small, enclosed
spaces.If the smell is bothersome, thenyoucanremove the UV lamp fromthemachine.Doingso does
notaffecttheother air purificationmethods.Secondly,the slight “burning”smellcouldbe a resultof
harmlessandnonflammable byproducts from theHEPAfilter paper.Aftera few days or weeks of
continuoususe,theburning smellwillgoawaycompletely.
UV Lamp Not Working
TheUV lamp should illuminatewhileoperating.Since it is locatedbehindthefilter, you can onlyseethe
“blueglow” by peering through thetopairoutlets into theinteriorofthe air purifier.If the UVlampisnot
glowingwhen on, and it hasbeeninuse for less than ayear,thenpush on each end ofthebulbto make
sureit is tightly in theUVlampholder.
Air Purification Technologies
Air Ionizer
zEffectivelyremovesparticulatefromtheair, such asallergens(including mold and dustmites),fine dust
particles,bacteria, viruses, chemicalfumesand other ultra-fineparticlesthat a filtercannotcapture.
zIncreasesthe effectiveness of the Hepaandactivated carbon filter system bycausingparticlesto
magneticallyattract together, resulting inlargerparticlesthatareeasier for the filtertocapture.
zDisinfectsviruses and bacteria trapped in thefiltrationbankof the XJ-3000E that would normally
reproducein the typicalfilter.
zHastheabilityto remove airborne particlesaway from the air purifier, in areas of the room wherethe
filterhas little effect. Thisisdueto the factthationscan circulate throughout aroom.Negativeion
circulationis enhanced as aresultofthe fan.
HepaAir Filter
zRemoves99.97% of particles(.3 microns insize)that pass through thefilter,preventing them from
becomingrecirculatedinto the air. Largely considered the mosteffectivetypeof air filter.
zCapturesa high volumeoffloatingdust and otherparticles,includingmany of theionizedparticlesthat
wouldotherwise just settle totheground if a typicalionizerwereused.
Germicidal UV Light
zUV(ultraviolet) light is scientificallyproventodestroy a largevarietyofmicrobial contaminates, such as
viruses,germs, bacteria andfungi(including mold).
zUltravioletlight has been used foryearsbythe medical field (includinghospitals)tosanitize rooms and
equipment,inorder to prevent the spread of illness and disease.
zRecommendedbyCenters for Disease Control for its ability to destroybiologicalpollutants.
Activated CarbonAir Filter
zSpecializes in capturingandneutralizingchemicals,gases, odors and cigarette smoke,whichthe
Hepafilter cannotcapture.
Anti-Microbial Pre-Filter
zPreservesand lengthens the lifeofthe other filtersbycapturingthe larger particles.This way, pores
withinthe activated carbon andHEPAfilters can remain available forfiner,harder-to-removeparticles.
zDestroysbacteria to prevent them fromreproducingand recirculating into the air.

Warranty
What is covered:Allpartsdefective in material and workmanship.
Exclusions: Regularreplacementpartssuchasairfiltercartridges and UV lamps.
For how long: Threeyearsfrom purchase date.

90-Day Replacement Policy
Ifany partrequires repair duringthefirst90 days afterreceiving your airpurifier, duetomanufacturer
defect,then SurroundAirwill replace it withanew machine.
