1 Introduction
1.1 Product description
The product is a geothermal heat exchanger with a circulation pump and housing made of expanded polypropylene
(EPP). The product is adapted for the use with ventilation unit.
A geothermal heat collector absorbs the temperature of the soil and transfers the temperature to the geothermal heat
exchanger.
The product increases the temperature of the outdoor air during winter season to prevent damage to the ventilation
unit. During summer season the product decreases the outdoor air temperature to make a pleasant indoor
environment.
1.2 Intended use
The product is made for use with the comfort ventilation systems. Any other use is considered an improper use and can
lead to damages to equipment and persons.
1.3 Document description
This document contains instructions for installation, operation and maintenance of the product. The procedures must be
done by approved personnel only.
Please contact your place of purchase for further assistance if there are any questions left which are not covered in this
manual.

2.2 Safety instructions
Warning
Read the warning instructions that follow before you do work on the product.
• Make sure that the mains supply to the unit is disconnected before performing any maintenance or
electrical work!
• Read this manual and make sure that you understand the instructions before you do work on the product.
• Obey local conditions and laws.
• Keep this manual at the location of the product.
• Do not install or operate the product if it is defective.
• Do not remove or disconnect safety devices.
• Make sure that you can read all warning signs and labels on the product when it is installed. Replace
labels that have damage.
• Only permit approved personnel to work on the product and to be in the adjacent area during all work on
the product.
• Make sure that you know how to stop the product quickly in an emergency.
• Use applicable safety devices and personal protective equipment during all work on the product.
• Only do the maintenance as given in this manual. Speak to Systemair technical support if other servicing

3 Transportation and storage
Warning
Make sure that the product does not become damaged or wet during transportation. A damaged or wet
product can cause fire or electric shock.
Caution
Protect the open ends (spigots) against dust and humidity before and during mounting work breaks.
• Before you move the product to the installation location, examine the packaging for damages.
• Load and unload the product carefully.
3.1 Package content
In case of damages or incompleteness of the product delivered, please contact the supplier immediately. Package con-
tents are:

4 Installation
4.1 To do before installation of the product
• Make sure that you have the necessary installation equipment:
• air duct connections (DN250)
• power supply 230 VAC
• tubes and siphon for condensate drain
• pipes for geothermal heat collector
• damper for outdoor air duct if the system is used in areas with temperatures bellow -15 °C
• Examine the packaging for transportation damage and remove the packaging from the product carefully.
• Examine the product and all components for damage.
• Install the product in a location where there is space for commissioning, troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Make sure that the installation location is clean and dry, for full safety during electrical work.
• Make sure that the installation location is protected against frost. The liquid inside the system must not freeze.
• Make sure that the installation surface has sufficient capacity to hold the weight of the product.
• Refer to the airflow direction arrows on the name plate or on the product to install the product in the correct
position.
• Make sure that all cable glands are tight against the cables to prevent leaks.
4.2 To install the product
1. Attach the wall mounting bracket horizontally on the wall, at least 100 mm distance from the ventilation unit. Mind
the dimensions of the product – 590 x 390 x 720 mm.
2. Hang the product.
3. Connect the air ducts to the corresponding connections (DN250) on the product.
4. Seal all air duct connections.
5. Install an outdoor temperature sensor (OAT) at least 50 cm distance before the product in the outdoor air duct.
6. Insulate steam-tight the outdoor air duct to the product and from the product to the ventilation unit.
7. Connect the condensate drain air-tight to the siphon (with a surge tank of minimum 60 mm). Use a pipe or a hose.
Place the upper edge of the siphon minimum 40 mm under the condensate drain of the product.
8. Connect the siphon to the sewer.
4.2.1 To install the geothermal heat collector
4.2.1.1 Recommendation
Approximately 0,5 m of collector pipe is required for 1 m³/h air. However, a minimum of 100 m for smaller system. Put
collector pipes in a bed of 0.4 m of sand (depending on the type of PE pipe). This will prevent damage to the collector
pipes.
The length of the polyethylene (PE) pipe depends on local conditions, e.g. type of soil or ground water level. Compact
and loamy soil is able to transfer more heat to the brine than loose, sandy soil. If the pipe lays below the ground water
level, the brine absorbs more energy from the soil.

4.2.1.2 Installation
Note:
• Make sure each circuit can be locked, filled and emptied individually.
• Make sure a distributor and collector is installed at a very top of the pipe to ensure correct ventilation and
easy inspection.
• Do not use galvanized pipes. Pipes must be of suitable plastic.
• If more than one pipe circuit is used, the length of each pipe circuit should not exceed 100 m. All pipe
circuits must be the same length.
• Make sure there is a minimum distance of at least 1 m to water-carrying pipes or foundation to avoid
frost damage.
1. Install the geothermal heat collector in an open space or a trench system, depending on the size of the property.
2. Put pipes horizontally in the ground, the perfect depth is 1,5 to 2 m but not deeper than 5 m. The distance between
the pipes should be minimum 0,8 m.
3. Install the air vent at the highest point of pipe circle.
4. Insulate all pipes.
5. Connect one side of the PE-pipe with the help of an adapter to the inlet of the geothermal heat exchanger connection
(A), ¾ inch tapered external thread.
6. Connect one side of the PE-pipe with the help of an adapter to the outlet of the geothermal heat exchanger connec-
tion (B), ¾ inch tapered external thread.

4.2.2 To fill the geothermal heat collector circuit
Warning
• Only an authorized installer/plumber is allowed to fill the geothermal heat collector circuit.
• Higher concentrations of ethylene glycol can lead to flow problems due to the viscosity of the mixture.
Concentration of more than 50% ethylene glycol will damage the system irreparably.
Note:
Fill the system with a ready-to-use ethylene glycol-water mixture. Please note the correct percentage of
the ethylene glycol!

Fill the system as follows:
1. Remove the front door.
2. Connect a filling hose with the external filling pump to the filling valve X1.
3. Connect a drain hose to the filling valve X2.
4. Put the open end of the drain hose into a bucket.
5. Open the filling valves X1 and X2.
6. Close the stopcock X0. The valve X0 is closed when the handgrip is perpendicular to the pipe.
7. Open vent X6.

8. Fill the system with the help of an external filling pump until the liquid flows out of the drain hose.
9. Close the filling valve X2.
10.Open the stopcock X0. The valve X0 is open when the handgrip is parallel to the pipe.
11.With the help of the water system's pressure, set the system under a primary pressure of 1,5 bar. Use the filling
hose on filling valve X2 for that.
12.Pump the mixture through the system for about 30 minutes to remove air bubbles through the air vent.
13.Check the system pressure again and fill if necessary to rise the pressure.
14.Close the filling valve X1 and remove the filling hose.
15.Adjust the brine pump to the correct step.
16.Put the front door back.
Note:
Make sure to fill installation report with the liquid used.
5 Electrical connection
5.1 To do before the electrical connection
• Make sure that the electrical connection agrees with the product specification on the motor name plate.
• Make sure that the environment for electrical connection is clean and dry.
• Make sure that the wiring diagram that is included with the supply of the product agrees with the terminals in the
connection box.
5.2 To connect the product to the power supply
• Install a circuit breaker in the permanent electrical installation, with a contact opening of a minimum 3 mm at each
pole.
• Complete the electrical connection for the product.

5.3 To connect the product to the ventilation unit

is installed in the duct.
• Connect the temperature sensor wires (AI, GND) to
any free analog input and ground on the connection
board (CB) of the ventilation unit.
• Connect control signal wires (DO, 24V) to any free digi-
tal output and 24V on the connection board (CB) of the
ventilation unit.
• Install safety switches.
• Connect the power supply wires to 230 V~ output.

6 Commissioning
6.1 To do before the commissioning
• Make sure that the installation and electrical connection are correctly done.
• Visually examine the product and accessories for damage.
• Make sure that the safety devices are correctly installed.
• Make sure that there are no blockages in the air inlet and the air outlet.
• Make sure that installation material and unwanted objects are removed from the product and the ducts.
• Make sure the ventilation unit is working properly.
6.2 To configure the ventilation unit
Ventilation unit sends signal to start the geothermal heat exchanger on demand only when ventilation unit is configured
properly.
Configuration
1. Make sure the ventilation unit is ON.
2. Go to Service menu.
3. Enter password (default 1111)
4. Go to Components >Extra Controller >Extra Controller Mode menu and select GEO Exchanger option.
Change settings in the menus Configure preheater settings and Configure precooler settings.
Set-Point value is the desired air temperature in the air duct after the geothermal heat exchanger. Activation
temperature is the outdoor air temperature at which the heating and cooling should start.
5. Configure control signal. Go to Service >Output >DIGITAL menu. Select the digital output to which the ground
heat exchanger is connected. Example if it is connected to DO3 on the connection board, then select DIGITAL OUT-
PUT 3 and select Step Controller Y4 Extra Controller from the output type list.
6. Configure internal outdoor temperature sensor as extra controller temperature sensor. Go to Service >Input >
ANALOG >ANALOG INPUT 1 and change input configuration from Outdoor Air Temp. Sensor (OAT) to Extra
Controller Temp. Sensor (ECT).
7. After sensor configuration is changed, select analog input to which the newly installed duct temperature sensor
(OAT) is connected and configure input as Outdoor Air Temp. Sensor (OAT).
6.3 To vent the system
Fill and vent the system correctly. If the pump does not vent automatically:
• Press and hold the control button for 3 seconds then release.
The pump vent function is initiated and lasts 10 minutes. The top and bottom
LED rows flash in turn at 1 second intervals.
To cancel, press and hold the control button for 3 seconds.
Note:
When vent function is complete, the LED display shows the
previously set values of the pump.
6.4 To adjust the geothermal heat exchanger pump
Note:
• The ventilation unit turns ON the geothermal heat exchanger only when there is a demand for cooling or
heating. In order to adjust the pump, the geothermal heat exchanger has to be ON. If required, temporary
change settings on the ventilation unit to simulate demand for cooling or heating.
• Go to menu Service > Output > DIGITAL > Step Controller Y4 Extra Controller.
• Set Value Type > Manual,Value > ON.
Once adjustment is complete, set Value Type >Auto.
The pump adjustment depends on:

• the overall length of the geothermal heat collector
• the inner diameter of the geothermal heat collector
• the composition of the liquid mixture
• the temperature of the liquid mixture
Caution
Calculation and adjustment has to be done by a local installer.
Adjust the pump according to the geothermal heat exchanger size to ensure ideal mode of operation.
• The flow rate of the pump must be 6-7 l per minute for GEO 300.
• The flow rate of the pump must be 9-10 l per minute for GEO 500.
6.4.1 Control modes and functions

The pump returns to the factory setting (Constant speed, pump curve III) after 9 pushes.
Manual restart
• Push and hold the control button for 5 seconds to start the manual restart function. Function lasts maximum 10
minutes.
• Push and hold the control button for 5 seconds again to cancel.
Manual restart is used to unblock the pump, for example after a long idle time in the summer.
Lock/unlock
• Push and hold the control button for 8 seconds to lock or unlock the current settings of the pump.
Factory settings
• Push and hold the control button and the same time set the pump to off.
The pump runs in the factory settings when the pump is set to on again.
7 Operation
Read the manual of the ventilation unit to know more about temperature control.
7.1 To start the product
1. Set the installed safety switch in the ON position.
2. Set ventilation unit to ON.
3. Make sure there is a demand for cooling or heating.
The product LED should show the green colour.
7.2 To stop the product
1. Set ventilation unit to OFF.
2. Set the installed safety switch in the OFF position.

7.2.1 To stop the product in an emergency
Set the installed safety switch in the OFF position.
8 Maintenance
Warning
Set the installed safety switch in the OFF position before you do the maintenance unless the instructions tell
you differently. Make sure that the safety switch is not accidentally set in the ON position.
8.1 Maintenance schedule

8.2 To replace filter
Note:
Only use genuine filters provided by the manufacturer.
1. Disconnect the geothermal heat exchanger and ventilation unit from the power supply.
2. Remove the front door.
3. Pull out filter (A) or (B) depending on the air flow direction.

6. Connect the geothermal heat exchanger and ventilation unit to the power supply.
8.3 To examine the pressure and fill the system
Do a check of the system pressure on the pressure gauge. Fill the system if necessary.
Caution
The pressure of the hydraulic circuit has to be between 0,8 and 2,5 bar to assure an ideal operation. The
optimum pressure is 1,5 bar.
1. Disconnect the geothermal heat exchanger and ventilation unit from the power supply.
2. Remove the front door.
3. Connect a filling hose to the filling valve X1.
4. Open the filling valve X1.
5. Measure the glycol percentage with a glycol refractometer.
• Fill the system with a ready-to-use mixture if necessary.
Note:
The glycol percentage must not differ more than 3% from the percentage chosen at the startup. After
filling the system with water twice, the glycol percentage has to be adjusted.
6. Use water system's pressure to set the system under a primary pressure of 1,5 bar. Use the filling hose on filling
valve X1 for that.
7. Close the filling valve X1 and remove the filling hose.
8. Put the front door back.
9. Connect the geothermal heat exchanger and ventilation unit to the power supply.
8.4 To clean the product
1. Disconnect the geothermal heat exchanger and ventilation unit from the power supply.
2. Remove the front door.
3. Remove the filter.
4. Check the fins of the geothermal heat exchanger battery for sediments and damages.
• Use steel comb to straighten the fins.
5. Flush the heat exchanger battery with a tap water.
Note:
Do not use aggressive or solvent cleaners.
6. When all work is done insert the filter.
7. Put the front door back.
8. Connect the geothermal heat exchanger and ventilation unit to the power supply.
8.5 To clean condensate drain
1. Disconnect the geothermal heat exchanger and ventilation unit from the power supply.
2. Loosen the condensate drain.
3. Examine the condensate drain:
• Put water into the siphon to see if the drain is still open.
• Do a contamination check of the condensate drain.
• Make sure there is sufficient amount of water in the siphon. There must not be air in the siphon.
4. Tighten the condensate drain.
5. Connect the geothermal heat exchanger and ventilation unit to the power supply.

8.6 To replace the pump
1. Disconnect the geothermal heat exchanger and ventilation unit from the power supply.
2. Remove the front door.
3. Close the stopcocks X0 and X6.
4. Connect a drain hose to the filling valve X1 to drain the liquid.
5. Open the filling valve X1 slowly until all pressure is gone.
6. Replace the pump X5.
7. Fill the system to a normal pressure of 1,5 bar. Read chapter 8.3.
8. Close the filling valve X1 and remove the filling hose.
9. Open the stopcocks X0 and X6.
10.Put the front door back.
11.Connect the geothermal heat exchanger and ventilation unit to the power supply.
8.7 To replace the expansion tank
1. Disconnect the geothermal heat exchanger and ventilation unit from the power supply.
2. Remove the front door.
3. Close the stopcocks X0 and X6.
4. Connect a drain hose to the filling valve X1 to drain the liquid.
5. Open the filling valve X1 slowly till all pressure is gone.
6. Replace the expansion tank X4.
7. Fill the system to a normal pressure of 1,5 bar. Read chapter 8.3.
8. Close the filling valve X1 and remove the filling hose.
9. Open the stopcocks X0 and X6.
10.Put the front door back.
11.Connect the geothermal heat exchanger and ventilation unit to the power supply.
8.8 To replace the filling valve
1. Disconnect the geothermal heat exchanger and ventilation unit from the power supply.
2. Remove the front door.
3. Close the stopcock X6.
4. Connect a drain hose to the filling valve X1 or X2 to drain the liquid.
5. Open the respective filling valve slowly until all pressure is gone.
6. Replace the filling valve.
7. Fill the system to a normal pressure of 1,5 bar. Read chapter 8.3.
8. Close the respective filling valve and remove the filling hose.
9. Open the stopcock X6.
10.Put the front door back.
11.Connect the geothermal heat exchanger and ventilation unit to the power supply.
8.9 To replace the pressure gauge
1. Disconnect the geothermal heat exchanger and ventilation unit from the power supply.
2. Remove the front door.
3. Close the stopcocks X6 and X0.
4. Connect a drain hose to the filling valve X2 to drain the liquid.
5. Open the filling valve X2 slowly until all pressure is gone.
6. Replace the pressure gauge X3.
7. Fill the system to a normal pressure of 1,5 bar. Read chapter 8.3.
8. Close the filling valve X2 and remove the filling hose.

9. Open the stopcocks X0 and X6.
10.Put the front door back.
11.Connect the geothermal heat exchanger and ventilation unit to the power supply.
9 Troubleshooting
Note:
If you cannot find a solution to your problem in this section, speak to Systemair technical support.

10 Disposal
The product follows the WEEE directive. This symbol on the product or the packaging of the
product shows that this product is not domestic waste. The product must be recycled at an
approved disposal location for electrical and electronic equipment.
10.1 To disassemble and discard the parts of the product
1. Disconnect and disassemble the product in the opposite sequence of electrical connection and installation.
2. Recycle the product parts and the packaging at an applicable disposal location.
3. Obey the local and national requirements for disposal.
11 Warranty
The warranty period of the product is 2 years starting from the date of delivery. The warranty only covers defects in
material or construction faults that occurred during the warranty period. The product may not be dismounted without
prior written permit of the manufacturer in the case of a warranty claim. Spare parts are only covered by warranty if in-
stalled by an authorized installer.
The warranty expires if:
• the warranty period has ended
• the product is used without genuine filters or other parts
• the product is used improperly
• defects occur due to improper connection or use and decontamination of the system
• not authorized modifications are made
