1Introduction
This document will describe electrical and mechanical interface requirements for the QuantaPro Camera
Link version camera.

3Camera Hardware Requirements

3.1 DC power input
The QuantaPro camera needs a 24V/3A DC power supply (Not supplied with the camera). The power
cable is shown in Figure 2 below, with the pins in Table 1. The length of the cable will depend on the
customer’s system; however, it should not exceed 10 meters.

3.2 Exposure Output
The camera outputs a TTL exposure control signal from the SMA socket on the camera rear plate to
customer optical system. The exposure cable could be a 26 AWG coax cable which one end with SMA for
camera side and another end will select a connector which mates to the shutter device. The exposure coax
cable center pin is signal and the shield case is GND. When exposure signal is TTL high, the camera is in
exposure. When exposure signal is TTL low, the camera should be in dark and send one frame image data
via camera link cable.

3.3 External Trigger Input
The QuantaPro camera has three statuses. See Figure 4. At the pink area, the camera sensor is no charge
transfer in pixels. The green area is exposure time there is no pixel charge transfer too. The yellow area is
image read out time the all pixels charge will transfer to output. During the charge transfer time, the
camera should be in dark with no illumination in any wavelength light.
The frame trigger signal is the starter for grabbing an image. In different trigger mode, the frame trigger
signal is come from different source. The frame trigger signal is rise edge active.
When cameras run at external trigger mode, the camera needs a TTL frame trigger signal from the system.
The system can control the camera exposure start at a time point. The Frame Trigger signal rising edge to
exposure signal rising edge delay tolerance accuracy is less then 1 µs. The delay ‘B’ in Figure 4 is
considered the fixed system response delay. The Exsync coax cable is end with SMA connector to the
camera side which similar with the exposure cable and another end should mate to the system external
trigger output device. The external trigger signal can also get from the Camera link CC1.

3.4 Camera Link
The MDR 26 connector is for camera to connect to the DALSA CORECO X64 base frame grabber board
in the PC via a standard camera link cable. This camera link interface includes the image date link, RS232
port and CC1 external trigger input. Sapera - CamExpert can control the camera and snap the image. The
camera active pixels are 2084 x 2084 in no binning mode. User can set the display window pixel numbers
in below Figure 5 for own application.

The Camera Link version camera is using RS232 port in Coreco X64 card. The RS232 port is provided for
communications to the microcontroller in camera. Select the correct serial port from your PC. Using the
HyperTerminal or DALSA Terminal, user can set the camera working mode such as trigger mode, binning
mode, exposure time, TEC temperature, getting camera information, setting OS ADC gain and save
settings. The default port setting is shown in Figure 6. User can change the RS232 baud rate in camera if
need.

3.5 Micro code update
(This section commands are for micro code renew only. Don’t use them in normal case.)

4Camera Control Software Operation
Power on camera and connect the Camera Link cable from camera to CORECO X64 Card. If necessary,
configure a serial port on your frame grabber, Run HyperTerminal you will see the OK> prompt. Type
‘h’ will list all the commands and give a summary of their parameters. Shown as in Figure 7.

4.1.2.10 SBR –Set Baud Rate
This command is used to set the serial communications baud rate.
Valid values are: 9600, 19200, 57600, and 115200.
The camera always powers up at 9600.

4.1.2.11 SBV –Set Binning Vertical
This command is used to set the vertical binning factor.
Valid values are: 1, 2, 4, 8, and 16.

4.1.2.12 SOA –Set OS ADC
This command is used to configure the gain and offset of the sensor output. A different pair of
values is saved for each horizontal binning mode (although only the current values are
displayed in the GCP screen).
Valid gain range is: 1 to 6 times.
Valid offset range is: -300 to +300 mV.
Syntax: SOA <gain> <offset>

4.1.2.13 SET –Set Exposure Time
This command is used to set the exposure time in milliseconds.
Valid range is: 1 to 3,600,000 ms.
Example: set camera exposure time to 8 seconds.
Syntax: SET <time>

4.1.2.14 SFG –Set Frame Gap
This command is used to set the period (in milliseconds) between exposures when in internal
trigger mode (STM 0).
Valid range is: 1 to 65,535 ms.
Example: set camera for next exposure at 8 seconds after sending current image data.

4.1.2.15 STC –Set TEC Control
This command is used to configure the TEC temperature control. When configured, this
function will automatically adjust the TEC voltage to maintain the specified cool side
temperature. The control algorithm will also enable or disable the TEC as required. If the set
point temperature is higher than the stable temperature at the minimum voltage the
algorithm will enable and disable the TEC to maintain the set point. If the hot side of the TEC
is above 70 C, the algorithm will disable the TEC to prevent damage to the electronics.
Valid set point temperature range is: -50 to +50 C.
Valid period is: 0 to 600 seconds. If the period is 0 then the control algorithm will not run.
The recommended period is: 10 seconds.
Syntax: STC <set point> <period>

4.1.2.16 STE –Set TEC Enable
This command is used to enable the TEC (Thermo Electric Cooler). Use this command if you
are not using the temperature control algorithm (STC command) and are going to manually
set the TEC voltage with the STV command.
Note: the temperature control algorithm (STC command) will overwrite this setting if
necessary to maintain the temperature set point.

This command is used to set the trigger mode.

- SET to set exposure time, CC1 to trigger a frame read
2. External, SMA trigger
- SET to set exposure time, SMA to trigger a frame read
3. Software trigger
- SET to set exposure time, TRG to trigger a frame read

settings will be automatically loaded on power up. As well, they can be recalled at any time
with the RUS command.

5Mechanical Interface
This section of the document will present the mechanical interface to the QuantaPro camera.
5.1 Camera Mounting
The camera is mounted to the customer’s system using the mounting holes provided. The camera
dimensions and mount screw locates are shown in mechanical drawings. The camera has the mount holes
on three sides for customer mounting camera options. It is recommended that the camera be mounted on
one side (front plate or side plate) to a flat surface fixture. Please see the drawings below for details..
5.2 Light shield
The camera needs shield from lens to camera front plate. Any light leakage from outside of camera will
affect the image. (The Light shield is not include for camera delivery)

6Camera Working Environment
In general, to avoid water condensation it is necessary to have all parts of the camera ABOVE the
dew point at given relative humidity. Table 2 below shows dew point versus relative humidity and
temperature for normal atmospheric pressure.
