1 0 INTRODUCTION
T e Portable Maintenance Access Terminal 2000 (PMAT 2000) is a compact, rugged,
multifunction piece of Ground Support Equipment. It is a lig tweig t computer proven to
operate in a flig t-line environment providing t e operator wit data loading capabilities,
maintenance interface, as well as immediate osting for tec nical and maintenance
documentation. T e PMAT 2000 runs t e Microsoft® Windows XP operating system,
offering t e user a simple, familiar, and secure interface.
NOTE: T is User’s Guide is for PMAT 2000 P/N 80000-05 configuration only. For
instructions on t e operation of previous configuration units (P/N 80000-03 t ru 80000-
04), please refer to User’s Guide release P/N 80010 Rev. 4 or earlier or call Teledyne
Controls for support.

1 2 FUNCTION DESCRIPTION

Jeppesen, etc. w ic provide Airplane Maintenance Manuals, Fault Isolation
manuals, IPC, and ot ers.
Access to t ese functions is t roug “display buttons” arranged toget er on t e PMAT
2000 Main Menu. (See Figure 4.)
1 3 CERTIFICATION
T e PMAT 2000 erewit complies wit t e requirements of t e European Communities
directives and carries t e CE mark accordingly

2 0 OPERATING PROCEDURES
2 1 Initialization Sequence
To turn on t e PMAT 2000 press and old t e ON/OFF button on t e keyboard for
approximately five (5) seconds. After t e system is turned on t e following occurs:
• Initiates a power-on-self-test (POST) of t e PMAT 2000 system;

• Initializes t e internal Operating System (Microsoft® Windows XP by default) and
c ecks all interfaces;
• Loads t e PMAT 2000 Main Menu (see Figure 4 for an example).
2 2 Hardware Setup
NOTE: T e aircraft manufacturer’s Airplane Maintenance Manual procedures
must be used for on-airplane software uploading and downloading to
ensure t e correct and specific maintenance procedures are followed.
T e following sections describe generic information for connecting t e PMAT 2000 to
some aircraft systems prior to operation. Ot er ardware setup procedures may be
different depending on airplane manufacturer, airplane model, and avionics equipment
manufacturer.
2 2 1 MCDP Setup
• Connect one end of cable, P/N 80031, labeled “PMAT” to t e connector on t e
top of t e PMAT 2000 (Figure 2).
• Connect t e ot er end of t e cable labeled “MCDP REMOTE” to t e MCDP
Remote Panel receptacle in t e flig t deck.
• For more information on ow to use t e MCDP software, see Section 2.4.
2 2 2 ARINC 615 Portable Data Loader Setup
Note: For 615 Portable Data Loader operation, t e PMAT 2000 is powered by its
batteries or by t e AC power cable, P/N 80044-2.
• Connect one end of cable, P/N 80030, labeled “PMAT 2000” to t e connector on
t e top of t e PMAT 2000 (Figure 2).
• Connect t e ot er end of t e cable labeled “ARINC 615 Computer” to t e ARINC
615 device.
• For more information on ow to use t e ARINC 615 software, see Section 2.5.
2 2 3 LoadStar Setup for B777 PMAT
Note: Reference LoadStar User’s Guide (P/N 59721) for complete details of t e
interface between t e PMAT 2000 and PMAT. T e PMAT used in t is
document is referring to bot t e PMAT/MSD (50000-002) and PMAT/NT
(50000-004) model because bot PMAT models ave a Mass Storage
Device (MSD).
• Connect one end of t e Y-Cable PMAT 2000-PMAT Interface Et ernet cable,
P/N 80034, labeled “PMAT” to t e PMAT.
• Connect t e ot er end of t e Y-Cable labeled “PMAT 2000” to t e PMAT 2000.
• Connect t e end of t e Y-Cable labeled “Aircraft Power” to t e PMAT connector
in t e 777 EE Bay.

Note: T is above step is necessary to feed power to PMAT in t e EE Bay unless
t e PMAT is powered from external power or its internal batteries.
Note: Make sure t e PMAT 2000 is powered from its internal batteries unless a
cable, P/N 80051 is used wit AC power adapter to power t e PMAT
2000.
2 2 4 Stand-alone Operation
T e PMAT 2000 may be powered by its internal batteries (Figure 2) for up to 5 ours
(bot batteries fully c arged) of operation or by t e AC power cable, P/N 80044-2
(Figure 3.). If AC power is not used to power t e PMAT 2000, make sure t at at least
one PMAT 2000 battery is installed and is functioning properly

2 3 Main Menu
T e Main Menu is displayed after boot up. T e Main Menu is t e default display for t e
PMAT 2000. T e user can select any function from t e Main Menu. T e available
functions on t e main menu are:
• PDL 615 Data Loading
• MCDP Remote Panel
• Arc ived Data

Note: Ot er functions t at may appear on t e main menu include ECU Loader, Jouve
AirGTI and ot ers dependent on t e PMAT 2000 configuration purc ased or
options included by providers of maintenance data.

To c oose one of t e functions available from t e Main Menu, press t e underlined
letter of t e item on t e keyboard or move t e cursor over t e button using t e mouse-
pointer and click t e mouse pointer’s left button. T e Main Menu will not be visible
w ile t e Loadstar function is open. It may be accessed only after logging out of
Loadstar.
T e PMAT 2000 software allows only one application to be launc ed at a time. W en
one PMAT 2000 function application is launc ed from t e Main Menu, no ot er function
can be launc ed until t e existing opened function is closed. Example: if MCDP
REMOTE PANEL is open and t e user tries to launc PDL615 DATALOADING from t e
Main Menu, t e MCDP REMOTE PANEL will stay open and not allow PDL615
DATALOADING to open.
2 4 Maintenance Control Display Panel (MCDP) Remote Panel
T e MCDP program allows t e PMAT 2000 to operate as a remote MCDP
(Maintenance Control Display Panel in t e B757/767 cockpit). T e system mirrors t e
actual MCDP panel and performs all MCDP operations.

T e MCDP Program consists of a screen t at approximates t e actual MCDP wit t e
addition of four lines of text at t e top. T e two smaller, upper lines of t e screen are
status information, suc as t e mode of operation. T is information is a text
representation of t e LED’s illuminated on t e actual MCDP panel. Below t ose lines,
two larger lines display text identical to t e two text lines displayed on t e front of t e
MCDP.
To activate t e MCDP Emulator software from t e PMAT 2000 Main Menu press t e
MCDP REMOTE PANEL button using t e mouse pointer or press t e letter ‘M’ on t e
keyboard. T e dialog box “ENTER TAIL NUMBER” will appear (see Figure 5). T e
dialog box is for a tec nician or mec anic to enter t e tail number of t e aircraft t ey will
collect t e maintenance data files from using t e MCDP. All t e downloaded fault and
maintenance data files will ave t e tail number as t eir name. T e file extensions
assigned to eac downloaded file will be incremental starting wit 000. As new files are
downloaded wit t e same tail number, sequential file extensions are generated.

Enter t e tail number or select a tail number from t e scroll list and click OK. T e MCDP
panel display will appear (see Figure 6). If t e inserted tail number is new, t en t e user
will be prompted to save t e tail number in t e Tail Number List. Select YES or NO.
After a tail number is saved it is retained in t e pull down list and does not ave to be
re-entered. On subsequent file downloading instead of entering a tail number, pull down
t e scroll list and select t e tail number from t e list using t e down arrow key on t e
keyboard or by scrolling t roug t e entire list using t e scroll bar.
Eac button on t e MCDP panel can be controlled in two ways.
Met od 1: Eac button as a single letter underlined in its label. Press t is key
on t e keyboard to activate t e button.
Met od 2: Using t e mouse, move t e cursor over t e desired button and t en
press t e left selector button adjacent to t e mouse pointer.
W en MCDP emulation operations are completed, press t e button labeled CLOSE to
terminate t e MCDP function on PMAT 2000. Eit er pressing t e letter ‘C’ or using t e
mouse pointer can do t is.

2 5 PDL-615 Dataloading
T e PDL-615 is an application program t at allows ARINC 615 data loading to t e
aircraft from eit er floppy disks or from t e software library maintained on t e ard
drive. T e program also allows for file download from t e aircraft and stores t e file to
floppy disks.
T e PDL-615 uses t e ARINC 615 Airborne Computer Hig Speed Data Loader
specification to define its operation. ARINC 615 is a commercial aircraft bus
specification defining loading protocols. T e specification includes t e use of a ig and
low speed ARINC 429 bus and a protocol for t e controlled, automatic uploading and
downloading of data to and from avionics devices. ARINC 615 automatic loading
requires minimal operator intervention.

2 5 1 Automatic Software Upload from the Floppy Drive
T is section provides t e steps to perform an automatic upload to an avionics loadable
system using t e PDL 615 software on t e PMAT 2000.
• From t e PMAT 2000 Main Menu press t e PDL 615 DATALOADING button
using t e mouse pointer or press t e letter “P” on t e keyboard.
• Select Floppy Drive as t e source by pressing t e Flo y Drive button. (See
Figure 7)
• Enter t e appropriate information in t e text boxes. (See Figure 8) T is
information will be recorded in t e PDL 615 Log. T e operator may continue
wit out entering any information by selecting t e Start Load button at t e bottom
of t e screen.
• T e PDL-615 control panel will appear. (See Figure 9) For purposes of
familiarity, t e PDL-615 control panel user interface emulates t e Teledyne
Controls Portable Data Loader (P/N 30100).
Note: The PDL software will continuously search the floppy drive for a disk until
one is inserted or the operator chooses to load from MSD
• T e PDL-615 will automatically read t e floppy disk and display t e name and
block count of t e first file. T e READY indicator will s ow GREEN w en t e unit
is ready to begin loading.
• If t e avionics loadable systems are active, t e load sequence automatically
initiates.
• As eac file is loading, t e block count will decrement accordingly. W en t e
block count reac es zero, loading of t e current file is complete.
Note: T e ABORT button may be selected at any time during a load to discontinue t e
upload processing and return t e PDL-615 to its initial state. T e “ABORT”
command is initiated by pressing t e letter “A” on t e keyboard, <Alt> A, or
selecting t e ABORT button wit t e mouse pointer. W en an “ABORT” request
is initiated a status message “ABORT DETECTED” will appear in t e DISPLAY
WINDOW.

• T e PDL 615 will automatically sequence to t e next file if more t an one file is to
be loaded from t e current diskette. If t e data to be loaded is continued on
anot er disk t e operator will be prompted to insert t e next disk wit t e prompt
“INSERT DISK # X”, w ere X is t e number of t e next disk, in t e Display
Window. Remove t e current disk and insert t e next disk in t e sequence.
• W en t e upload is complete t e PDL 615 will wait for a Load Complete signal
from t e avionics line replaceable unit. Example – if t e Flig t Management
Computer was loaded, it will perform a verify function following t e upload before
t e Load Complete signal is given. During t is time, t e PDL 615 will display t e
message “VERIFY PENDING XX:YY, w ere X and Y are t e number of minutes
and seconds, respectively. T is is t e time t e PDL 615 as been waiting since
t e automatic upload finis ed.
• W en t e Load Complete signal is received, t e PDL 615 will display “LOAD
COMPLETE” and t e READY lig t will turn OFF.
• T e operator as t e option of reviewing t e PDL 615 Log information. By
selecting t e REVIEW button after completing an upload, a review window will
appear displaying t e log information. (See Figure 10)
• Exit t e program by pressing t e letter ‘G’ on t e keyboard or GO BACK button
using t e mouse pointer. W en t e Data Loader window closes, t e display
reverts to t e PMAT 2000 Main Menu. To begin anot er dataload, press t e New
Load button.

NOTE: Airplane TYPES, LRU and PART # must be loaded on t e ard drive for
t em to be displayed in t is dialog box. If no data exists in t e columns do
not attempt any data loading. Consult your Systems Administrator.

in Figure 11 are examples only. T e Customer Systems Administrator
inputs t is information during PMAT 2000 configuration after delivery. T e
specific information displayed is based on t e actual airline fleet and LRU
configuration.
• Select a specific “TYPE” from column 1 using t e mouse pointer and cursor
selection button. Available LRU names will be displayed in t e “LRU” column
(column 2)
• Select a specific “LRU” name from column 2. T e software part number will be
displayed in t e “PART #” column (column 3)
• Move t e mouse pointer over t e SELECT button. A “CONFIRM 615 LOAD” box will
be displayed
• Verify t e data in t e display box is correct and agrees wit t e upload requirement.
If t e information is not correct select t e GO BACK button and make t e correct
selection
• If t e data in t e “CONFIRM 615 LOAD” box is correct, select t e START 615 LOAD
• Enter t e appropriate information in t e text boxes. (See Figure 8) T is information
will be recorded in t e PDL 615 Log. T e operator may continue wit out entering
any information by selecting t e Start Load button at t e bottom of t e screen.

• As t e automated load sequence is initiated t e display will revert to t e “DATA
LOADER” screen. (See Figure 12) T e READY lig t will s ow GREEN and t e
display will s ow t e file name and t e block count of t e first file.
• If t e avionics loadable systems are active, t e load sequence automatically
initiates.
NOTE: T e ABORT button may be selected at any time during loading to stop t e
upload process and return t e PDL 615 to its initial state. T e “ABORT”
command is made by pressing A, <Alt>A, or by moving t e mouse pointer
over t e ABORT button and pressing t e left cursor selector button.
• If loading more t an one file, t e PDL 615 will automatically sequence to t e next
file.
