The ULTIMA 25 AKTIV loudspeaker
set consists of an active and a passive
loudspeaker.
The loudspeakers are used for playing
the audio signals of connected external
players (Bluetooth® or cable connection)
and (DAB+/FM) radio.
►Only use the speakers as described in
this user manual.
Any other use is deemed to be improper
and may result in material damage or
even personal injury.
The manufacturer accepts no liability for
damage caused by improper use.
The loudspeakers are intended for use in
the private domain.
Before starting up the loudspeaker:
►Read the user manual and safety
booklet carefully.
►Keep the instructions in a safe place
so that they can be passed on to third
parties.
►When passing on the loudspeaker,

Removing / mounting the
protective covers
NOTE
You can remove the protective covers (51)
from the loudspeakers. Without a
protective cover, higher frequency sounds
will be clearer.
►To remove, carefully reach behind the
protective covers (51)and gently pull
them forward off the loudspeakers.

2. Place the loudspeakers on a stable and
level surface or mount with the wall
bracket.
►Make sure that the loudspeakers
are resting firmly in a stable
position to prevent vibrations.

Notes on the place of
installation
■Dry, dust-free environment.
■Sufficient ventilation.
■Avoid proximity to heat sources and
direct sunlight.
■Connection cables must not cause a
trip hazard.
Positioning / arranging the loudspeakers
NOTE
The following information on positioning
or arranging the loudspeakers relates to
the “ideal audio space” where the listener
is sitting at a sufficient distance centrally
in front of the loudspeakers with no
objects (e.g. table) in between ( →„Set-up
intheroom(example)“ ). If the room,
equipment or other factors are preventing
you from placing the loudspeakers in an
optimum position, try experimenting
with different positions or arrangements,
based on the following information, to see
where the loudspeakers work best, both
visually and acoustically.
ATTENTION
Material damage due to improper
installation!
If a loudspeaker is brought into a warm
room from the cold (e.g. after transport),
condensation can form inside it. At very
high volumes and bass-heavy music, the
loudspeaker may move due to vibrations.
►Wait at least 2 hours before connecting
and operating the loudspeaker if
condensation may have formed on the
inside.
►Do not place any objects on the
speaker.
NOTE
You can purchase assembly material
specifically designed for these
loudspeakers (cable, support feet, wall
bracket and resonance absorbers) from
our web store (“Accessories” area).
NOTE
First plan how you are going to set
everything up (with all loudspeakers)
and plan all cable runs. Only cut the
loudspeaker cable down to the required
length once you have set up all the
components in the right place.

Rear loudspeaker (optional)
►Set up the rear loudspeaker inside
the grey areas ( →„Set-upintheroom
(example)“ ).
Variant A: Rear loudspeakers should
be set up or attached to the wall at
head height (140–210 cm) at the side
of the listener. The distance to the
rear wall should be at least 50 cm.
Variant B: You can also set up the
rear loudspeakers behind the listener
at a height of between 140 and
210 cm. Experiment with different
audio previews to find the optimum
distance.
Connecting the Passive
loudspeaker
NOTE
You can connect the loudspeaker
cable (5)directly to the Active and Passive
loudspeakers or by means of jack plugs.
Just the direct connection is explained
below.
NOTE
When connecting the loudspeakers,
observe correct polarity: Always connect
the same colour terminals otherwise the
sound quality will suffer.
1. Run the loudspeaker cable from the
Active loudspeaker to the Passive
loudspeaker.

■Where possible, position both
loudspeakers or attach them to the
wall at an equal distance (right/left)
from the listener.
■Where possible, the loudspeakers
should form a triangle with the
listener (“stereo triangle”: distance
from listener = distance between
loudspeakers).
■Depending on the loudspeaker and the
place of installation, it can be a good
idea to orientate the loudspeaker at an
angle towards the listening position.
Subwoofer (optional)
■It is up to you to decide where to
position the subwoofer as this has no
influence on the other loudspeakers.
■A position between the stereo
loudspeakers tends to be ideal.
■Do not position the subwoofer in a
corner of the room as this runs the risk
of the frequency being increased in an
uncontrollable manner.

4. Following the same principle, connect
the other end of the loudspeaker cable
to the SPEAKER L/R connection (49)of
the Active loudspeaker.
5. The (left/right) position of the
loudspeaker can be defined at a later
stage in the “Loudspeaker” menu.

Connecting the subwoofer /
rear loudspeaker (optional)
To use the ULTIMA 25 AKTIV within
a sound system, connect the
loudspeaker to a radio subwoofer in a
2.1 configuration. For a 5.1 configuration,
connect two rear loudspeakers to the
ULTIMA 25 AKTIV, in addition.
►Connect the radio subwoofer or
rear loudspeaker wirelessly to the
ULTIMA 25 AKTIV.

2. Strip the loudspeaker cable at both
ends over a length of approx. 30 mm,
and remove approx. 10 mm of
insulation from each end.
►Twist the stripped cable ends so
that no wires are sticking out.

3. Connect the loudspeaker cable to
the connection (52)of the Passive
loudspeaker.
To do so, loosen the connection
terminals (turn them in an anti-clock-
wise direction), feed the stripped
cable ends into the holes that are now
visible, and then tighten the connec-
tion terminals up again (clockwise).
Tightening the connection terminals
clamps the cable ends.
►Make sure that no insulation gets
clamped with the cable ends.

■Connection: HDMI TV ARC (45)
■Cable required: HDMI cable
■With the ARC (Audio Return Channel)
HDMI function, the TV sound is output
via HDMI. On certain TVs, the ARC
function must be activated in the
menu and usually only one HDMI port
is ARC-capable (see TV’s operating
instructions). If your TV has an ARC
capable socket, connect it to the
HDMI TV port via an ARC-capable
HDMI cable ( →„IllustrationofHDMI(TV
ARC)connection“ ).
■With the CEC (Consumer Electronics
Control) HDMI function, control
commands are exchanged between
connected devices, i.e. you can
centrally control all connected
CEC-enabled devices (e.g. switch
on, standby, volume). When a device
starts, all connected devices switch
on at the same time and automatically
find the right channel.
Ideally, you only need one remote
control. You can activate / deactivate
the loudspeaker’s CEC function via the
menu.

external players
NOTE
You can find a suitable cable for
connecting cable-connected external
players in our web store.
Connecting a PC
■Connection: USB (44)
■Cable required: USB data cable (USB C).
■Set up configurations in the PC system
controls:
Windows 7, 8 and 10, as well as
Mac OS X from version 10.5 onwards,
do not require driver software
for playback from the PC. When
making the USB connection, the
operating systems recognise the
ULTIMA 25 AKTIV as
“USB Advanced Audio Device”.
On the ULTIMA 25 AKTIV, only
adjust the amplifier volume, all other
settings are controlled on your PC.

Mains connection
ATTENTION
Material damage due to trip hazard!
An awkwardly laid mains cable can
become a trip hazard and possibly pull
down and damage the speaker.
►Lay the mains cable in such a way that
it does not become a trip hazard for
people and animals.

Switching on for the first time
When switching on for the first time, you
will be asked to carry out different basic
settings (e.g. the language in which to
display the menu and info texts).
1. Switch on the loudspeaker for the first
time.

In the display panel (8), after a brief
animation, a query about the required
language is displayed.
2. Select the required language with the
/ (33)buttons.
3. To confirm the selection, press the
SELECT
(35)button.
In the display panel (8), the query
about the (R/L) position of the Active
loudspeaker (1)is displayed.
4. Set the corresponding (L/R) position
of the loudspeaker with the / (33)
buttons.
5. To confirm the setting,
press the
SELECT
(35)button.
In the display panel (8), the query
about wirelessly connecting
additional loudspeakers (rears,
subwoofer) is displayed.
6. If you wish to skip this step because
you do not wish to connect any
additional loudspeakers, press button
(33)twice and confirm that you wish
to skip the step by pressing button

To start pairing, press button (34)

After completing the initial set-up,

Setting / changing the
playback source
Setting the cable-connected external
player or radio as the playback source
►Press the SOURCE button on the
operating panel or on the remote
control.
►Press button (10)on the
operating panel to switch to the
next playback source
(TV > AUX > OPT > USB > DAB > FM).
►Press button TV (21), AUX (23),
OPT (24), USB (25), DAB (26) or
FM (27)on the remote control to
directly set the associated playback
source.
The playback source that has been set
is displayed in the display panel.

Setting Bluetooth® as the playback
source
►Press button (11) on the loudspeaker
or button BT (22)on the remote
control.

Bluetooth® has been set as the
playback source.
The loudspeaker automatically
searches for devices that have
already been paired (Bluetooth® list).
If the loudspeaker registers such as
device in its vicinity, it automatically
tries to make the connection with
this device.
Operation
Switching on and off
►To switch on, press button (9) /
(19) on the operating panel or on the
remote control.
The word “Teufel” appears briefly in
the display panel (8).

The speaker is switched on.
The final settings (external player,
volume, etc.) are active.
►To switch off, press button (9) /
(19) on the operating panel or on the
remote control.
Button (9)lights up red.

The loudspeaker is in standby mode.
TV standby
If the CEC HDMI function is activated, the
loudspeaker automatically switches to
standby mode when the TV is switched
off.

Auto standby
After 20 minutes without an input signal,
the loudspeaker automatically switches
to standby mode.

Switching to Bluetooth® playback:
■A known Bluetooth® device is located
in the vicinity (Bluetooth® list) and the
loudspeaker automatically restores the
Bluetooth® connection.
■Playback is started on a currently
connected Bluetooth® device.
Switching to USB playback:
■Playback is started on a currently
connected USB device.
Switching to HDMI playback:
■Playback is started on a currently
connected HDMI device.
Switching to AUX playback
■Playback is started on a currently
connected AUX device.
NOTE
For playback devices that are connected
via AUX, the sensitivity of the switch
function can also be set. In this way, you
can control the “sensitivity” with which
the loudspeaker reacts to signals from the
AUX source device.
►Setting the sensitivity of the AutoOn
function (for AUX source devices) via

If no Bluetooth® devices have been
paired or the loudspeaker does not
detect a Bluetooth® device in its vicinity,
the text “Wait for known device” is
displayed on the display panel.

Automatically changing the playback
source (switch function)
When the switch function is activated,
the loudspeaker automatically changes
the set playback source in specific
situations. The signals to which the
loudspeaker reacts or the cases when it
switches to the corresponding playback
source can be found in the list that
follows.
NOTE
You can activate / deactivate the switch
function for each source separately via the
menu.

USB / Optical ►On/Off.
NOTE
When switching from Bluetooth® to
USB or HDMI playback, the Bluetooth®
content is paused, and the loudspeaker
remains connected to the Bluetooth®
device.
