6• Ultima 40 Mk 2
Connecting
Connection variations
A connector terminal with four
terminal clips is located on the back
side of the speakers. Here you can
connect the speaker cables directly
or with pin plugs. We only describe
the direct connection in these instruc-
tions.
The terminals are each marked in
red (+) and black (-).
In addition to a standard connection,
where every speaker column is connected to the amplifier
with a cable, you can also choose the variants “Bi-Wir-
ing” or “Bi-Amping”.
Standard connection
With this connection, the Ultima 40 Mk 2 speakers are
connected like conventional speakers with one double-
strand speaker cable each. The contact bridges between
the connector terminators may not be removed in the
process. You can connect the cables accordingly to the
top or bottom terminals.
Bi-Wiring
With Bi-Wiring, the speaker is connected to the final
amplifier using two separate speaker cables for the bass
sound and mid/treble sound branch. This decoupling of
the speaker systems may improve the sound quality.
Bi-Amping
In case of Bi-Amping, the bass sound and mid/treble
sound branch are each powered by an own power ampli-
fier of the amplifier. You connect a double-strand speaker
cable to each power amplifier. Afterwards, you connect
the speaker cable to the upper and lower connector ter-
minators of the speakers respectively. Advantage: More
power and improved sound quality.
You only have to remove the
contact bridges for Bi-Wiring or
Bi-Amping operation:
To do so, turn the connector
terminals counterclockwise until
loose and then pull the contact
bridges out.
The top terminals lead to the high
range and midrange speakers,
the bottom terminals lead to the
low range speakers.
Connecting the cables
Danger Danger of injury/damage!
Arrange the cables so that they do not pose a
trip hazard.
1. Turn off your amplifier.
2. Lay the speaker cables from your amplifier to each
speaker. These cables should be high-quality double-
wire speaker cable with marked strands. The diameter
should amount to at least 1.5 mm2.
Make sure that the polarity is correct!
Connect the same-colour terminals of your
speakers and amplifier with each other. Oth-
erwise the sound quality will suffer. The individual single
wires of the speaker cables are marked with different
colours or shapes to facilitate the process.
3. Split the single
wire down to
approx. 30 mm
on both ends
and strip ap-
prox. 10 mm of
insulation off of
each cord. Twist
the stripped
single wire ends together so that no wire protrudes.
4. Turn the connector terminals
counterclockwise until loose.
Run the stripped single wire
ends into the holes that are
now visible. Turn the terminal
clockwise until closed.
The cable has now been
clamped in place.
5. Connect the other end of the
speaker cable to your amplifier.
The operating instructions of
the appliance should contain
notes on this.
