Safety notes
Caution icons
You will find the following caution icons in these instruc-
tions:
Danger High risk!
Failure to observe the warning may result in
severe personal injury or death.
Attention Moderate risk!
Failure to observe the warning may result in
property damage.
Minor risk!
Points which should be observed when han-
dling the unit.
Safety notes
Danger Danger to children!
Children can become trapped in the packing
film when playing and suffocate.
• Do not allow children to play with the unit or the pack-
ing film. Danger of suffocation.
• Ensure that children do not remove small parts from
the unit or take them off of the unit (e.g. control knobs
or plug adapters). They could swallow the parts and
choke.
Never allow children to operate electrical units unsu-
pervised.
Danger to hearing!
Extended listening at high volumes may lead to
hearing loss.
• To avoid damage to health, avoid extended listening at
high volumes.
• When the volume is set high, always keep a certain
distance from the unit and never place your ear directly
on the speaker.
• Particularly when the subwoofer has been set to maxi-
mum volume and the unit is activated, very high noise
pressure may suddenly be produced. This may have
psychological consequences and also cause physical
injury. Children and pets are particularly at risk. Set
your signal source unit volume control to a low setting
before turning on the power.
Danger Danger of injury/damage!
Incorrect location may result in damage.
• Never use the unit unmounted in vehicles, in unstable
locations, on wobbly stands or furniture, on under-
dimensioned brackets etc. The speakers could tip or
fall down and cause injury to persons or be damaged.
• Place the speakers on the ground only.
• Place the speakers in such a way that they cannot be
knocked over unseen and make sure that the cables do
not pose a trip hazard.
• Carefully follow the installation instructions.
• Only use the enclosed flat spikes.
• Only use the unit in indoor areas.
• Do not place the unit near sources of heat (e.g. heat-
ers, ovens, other heat generating equipment such as
amplifiers etc.).
Danger Fire hazard!
Improper use may lead to damage or fire.
• Do not place open flames such as burning candles or
similar on the unit.
• Ensure sufficient ventilation.
• Do not place the unit in direct sunlight.
• Only use the unit in indoor areas.
• Do not operate the unit in moist areas and protect it
from drops of water and splash water. Also take care
not to stand vases or other containers filled with liquid
on or near the speaker in order to avoid liquid getting
into the case.

Unpacking and setup
Unpacking
• Carefully open the box, remove the EPE foam half shell
and carefully lift the speaker out of the box without
reaching into the diaphragms.
• Possibly you may notice that the front plate of the
speaker caves in slightly if firm pressure is applied.
This is intentional: In order to decouple the front plate
from the housing resonances, it has been installed in
floating position.
Checking the product contents
• Check that all items have been delivered and that noth-
ing is damaged.

Setup
Note
Our website contains comprehensive notes for
correct setup.
• Select a stable, level base.
• Make sure that the environment is clean and free from
dust.
• Avoid placing the unit close to sources of heat or in
direct sunlight.
• Arrange the connector cables so that they do not pose
a trip hazard.
• Do not place any heavy objects on the cables or the
speakers.
• Make sure that the speaker has a stable position to
prevent vibrations.

To exploit the full sound potential:
• If possible, position the speakers in the room so that
they are standing free. Ideally, the distance to the back
wall should be 0.5 m. If you have the choice, place the
speakers up against the long side of the room wall to
minimise the influence of reflections.
• Set up the speakers so that the listening position and
the two speakers form an equilateral or at least isosce-
les triangle.
• When you set up the speakers, make sure that there
are at least 2 m of distance between the speakers and
the listener.
• Turn the two speakers slightly towards the listening
position (approx. 10 degrees). The respective outside
of the speaker provides orientation: if it is positioned
90 degrees to the back wall, the angle is correct.
These notes are a recommendation. Depending on the
room layout and listening situation, it may be worth trying
out various setups.
The speaker performance will of course benefit from the
quality level of the components connected and the acces-
sories used.

Connecting
Danger Danger of injury/damage!
Place the speakers in such a way that they
cannot be knocked over unseen and make sure
that the cables do not pose a trip hazard.
Connector cables
Due to differing customer requirements,
Definion 5 speakers are shipped without con-
nector cables. You can find suitable cables in our web-
shop (www.teufelaudio.com) in the “Accessories” area.
Connection variations
In addition to normal connection where each speaker
column is connected to the amplifier/AV receiver with a
cable, you can also select the variations “bi-wiring” or
“bi-amping”.
Normal connection
With this method, speakers are connected like conven-
tional speakers with one 2-strand speaker cable each.
The cable bridges between the connector terminals
may not be removed in the process; you can connect
the speaker cables accordingly to the upper or lower
terminals.
Bi-wiring
With bi-wiring, the speaker is connected with two sepa-
rated speaker cables for the medium/high range path
(upper connection pair) and the low range path (bottom
connection pair) to the power amplifier/AV receiver. De-
coupling between the high/medium and low range paths
may improve the sound depending on the quality of the
speaker cables used.
Bi-amping
Here, the low and the medium/high range paths are
supplied by an own power amplifier of the amplifier/AV
receiver each. Connect a speaker cable with two strands
to each power amplifier and connect this cable with the
upper or lower connector terminals of the speakers. Ad-
vantage: Improved performance and sound quality.
Assembly of the height-adjustable flat spikes
1. Screw 2 flat spikes c on each of the metal tracks b.
2. Turn the speaker around and place it upside down on
the corresponding packaging half shell so as not to
damage the sensitive surface.
3. Screw the metal tracks onto the bottom of the speaker
housing using the hexagon socket screws d.
Once mounted, turn the speaker over.
4.
You can compensate slight unevenness in the floor by
adjusting the flat spikes

Care and cleaning
• Ideally, you should remove dust or small amounts of
dirt with a dry, smooth leather cloth.
• Rub off stubborn dirt with a damp cloth. Make sure
that no liquid penetrates the speakers.
• Then immediately wipe the surfaces dry with a soft
cloth without applying pressure.
Attention Risk of damage!
Using the wrong cleaning materials may dam-
age the delicate surface of the case.
• If possible, only use plain water without any additives.
In case of stubborn marks, a mild soap solution may
be used.
• In no circumstances should caustic cleaning products,
white spirit, thinners, petrol or similar be used for
cleaning.
Connecting the cables
1. Turn off your amplifier/AV receiver.
2. Lay the speaker cables from your amplifier/AV receiver
to each of the speakers. Use a high-quality double
wire speaker cable with marked strands for this.
3. A connector terminal with four
terminal clips is located on the
back side of each speaker. You
can connect the speaker cables
directly here or using pin plugs.
The terminals are marked in red (+) and black(-).
Make sure the polarity is correct!
Connect the like coloured terminals. The
speaker connections of your amplifier should
be marked similarly. The strands of the speaker cables
are marked with different colours or shapes.
4. If you use speaker cables with
pin plugs or cable sockets from
our assortment, simply insert
the pin plugs in the upper or
lower connector terminals.
5. The cable sockets are also
mounted on the upper or lower
terminals.
6. If you use speaker wires without
plugs, split the wire down to
approx. 30 mm on both ends
and remove approx. 10 mm
of the insulation on each end.
Twist the wire so that no strands
are protruding.
7. Turn the connector terminal
counterclockwise until loose.
Run the stripped cable end into
the now visible hole. Close the
terminal by turning it counter-
clockwise. The cable has now
been clamped in place.
8. You only have to remove the cable bridges and con-
nect the connector terminals individually for bi-wiring
or bi-amping operation.
To do this, loosen the connector terminals by turning
them counterclockwise and pull the cable bridges out.
The upper terminals lead to the high and medium
range path and the bottom terminals lead to the low
range path.
9. Connect the other end of the speaker cables to your
amplifier/AV receiver. You should be able to find cor-
responding notes in the operating instructions of your
device.
10. Turn your amplifier/AV receiver back on.

Disposing of the speakers
Used units must not be disposed of with house-
hold waste!
If the unit is no longer operational, every
consumer is required by law to dispose of used
units separately from household waste, e.g. at a
Protecting the environment
collection point run by the communal authority/borough.
In this way it is ensured, that used units are properly recy-
cled and that negative consequences on the environment
are avoided.
For this reason, electrical equipment is labelled with the
displayed symbol.
Troubleshooting
The following notes and further detailed information on our website should help you to rectify malfunctions. In case you
don’t succeed, please contact our hotline 00800 - 200 300 40 (toll-free). Please also observe the warranty notes.
Problem Possible cause Solution
Playback is noisy. Generally speaking, the speakers are
very low noise. In the high range area,
very high-resolution speaker systems can
expose the poor quality of a signal source
(e.g. from MP3 files).
Make sure that the source is emitting a clear
signal.
The sound seems dull. Speakers have been connected with incor-
rect polarity.
Check to make sure the cables of all speakers
are correctly connected.
