1 INTRODUCTION
The Ear & Forehead thermometer uses infrared technology to measure
infrared energy emitted from the forehead or eardrum and surrounding
tissue, and then converts it into temperature value.
2 ABOUT BODY TEMPERATURE
Normal human body temperature fluctuates throughout the day; generally,
lowest in the morning, highest in the evening.
Different parts of human body also have different temperatures. Therefore,
the standards of measuring oral, axillary, rectal and ear temperatures are
different. The human body temperature is controlled and adjusted by the
hypothalamus in the brain. As the veins flow through the hypothalamus, they
also flow through the ear-drum in the mid ear. Thus, measuring the ear
temperature (the temperature of the ear drum membrane) can best reflect the
body temperature.
Normal body temperature is a range, not a fixed value.
When using an IR ear thermometer to take temperature, the normal body
temperature range is 35.8 °C - 38.0 °C. Also, people's normal temperature
ranges tend to decrease with their age.
However, the normal range is also different from person to person. To
determine your and your family members' normal temperature ranges is very
important. It can be done easily by using our Infrared Thermometer. Please
practice to take temperatures on yourself and your healthy family members
to determine their normal temperature ranges.
3 SAFETY NOTES
- Please read carefully through the following information concerning safety
and proper use. Make yourself familiar with all the functions of the equip-
ment. Be careful to keep these advice notes and if necessary pass them
on to a third party.
- This thermometer is intended for household use only. The use of this ther-
mometer is not intended as a substitute for physician’s consultation.
- Don’t touch or blow the infrared sensor. A polluted infrared sensor may
cause inaccuracy.

- Clean a polluted infrared sensor with a soft wet cloth in a gentle manner.
Cleaning with toilet paper of paper towel may scratch the infrared sensor,
causing inaccuracy.
- Keep the unit out of children’s reach. A self-measurement forced by chil-
dren may cause ear damage. For accidental swallowing of a battery,
please contact a doctor at once.
- Measurement must be suspended until the ear is warmed up after outdoor
activities to avoid lower results.
- After a shower or exercise, the body temperature will rise. Please take a
rest before taking temperature.
- For proper measurement, condition the thermometer for 30 minutes in
measurement site till room temperature.
- Earwax or obstructions will affect the accuracy of the thermometer.
- Stop using the product in occurrence of any pain. It is likely to damage the
ear hole.
- It is not recommended to use the product on users suffering ear disease
including otitis external and lympantitis. Affected part is likely to deterio-
rate.
- Don’t use the product in a wet ear hole after swimming or bathing. It is
possible to damage the ear hole.
- Don’t throw batteries into fire. Batteries may explode in fire

• Do not shock, vibrate or drop the thermometer.
• Do not allow any liquid in the thermometer.
• Do not disassemble, repair or remodel the thermometer.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Clean the main body of the thermometer with a soft and dry cloth.
• Do not use benzene, gasoline, thinner or any other cleaner contain-
ing abrasive agents.

• The tip of the probe is the most delicate part of the thermometer,
accurate readings from the thermometer can be obtained only if the
tip of the probe is clean and intact.
• To clean the tip of the probe, hold the thermometer downwards so
that no liquid can enter. Use a cotton swab moistened with alcohol to
wipe gently and carefully on the surface of the tip of the probe. Allow
an hour drying time before operating the thermometer again.

Pull out the insulator.
3. If it is not pre-installed, insert a
CR2032 - 3V - Lithium battery with the
positive pole (+) facing upwards.

Replace the battery when ‘ ’ is displayed.
Take out the battery if you do not use it for a long time.
You have to dispose of the batteries in an environment
friendly manner according to your country regulations.

8HOWTOUSE
8.1 EAR TEMPERATURE
• Pull off the Forehead probe from the unit.
• Press the START - button to turn the power
on. The display will show all symbols.
Before inserting the probe:
For children < 1 year: Pull the ear
down and back.
For children > 1 year to adult: Pull the
ear up and back.
• While holding the ear, insert the probe to seal the
ear canal.
• Press the START - button once. You will hear
a short beep. The ear mode icon is displayed.
• When you hear a double beep, the measurement is finished.
• Take out the thermometer from the ear canal.
• The result is displayed.
- It is recommended that you take three temperatures under
the following circumstances.
• Infants in the first 3 months of life.
• Children under three years old who have a condition
such as compromised immune system and for whom
the presence or absence of fever is critical.
• When you are first learning to use the thermometer until
you are comfortable with the technique and are gaining
consistent readings
- Wait about 30 seconds before measuring the same person to
avoid excessive cooling of the skin.
- If the results are different, use the highest reading.
- Clean the probe cover to ensure accurate measurement.
- As with any type of thermometer, slight temperature varia-
tions (+/- 0.2 - 0.3°C) can happen, if consecutive measure-
ments are taken.

8.2 FOREHEAD TEMPERATURE
• Put on the forehead probe .
• Gently position the probe onto the center of the forehead.
• Press the START - button once. You will hear a short beep. The
forehead mode icon is displayed.
• When you hear a double beep, the measurement is finished.
• The result is displayed.
At completion of measurement, the unit automatically returns to time mode
after 30 seconds.
The display will automatically turn off completely, 3 minutes after time mode
is activated.
8.3 TEMPERATURE LED INDICATION
As soon as the result is displayed, the relevant LED (3) will light.
• Green Light - 35.6 °C to 37.2 °C (96 °F to 99 °F)
• Orange Light - 37.3 °C to 37.5 °C (99.1 °F to 99.5 °F)
• Red Light - 37.6 °C to 42.9 °C (99.6 °F to 109.3 °F)
8.4 MEMORY
The result of each measurement will be stored automatically into the
memory. If the memory is full (30 records), the oldest measurement result will
be removed.
To recall the memory:
• Press the START - button to turn the power on.
• Press the SET - button successively to scroll through the mem-
ory. Each result is displayed with date and sequence number.

8.5 DISPLAY ERROR MESSAGES
9 ADVANCED MODE
9.1 TIME SETTINGS
• Power on the unit by pressing the START - button once. You will
hear a short beep. Time mode is displayed.
• Press and hold the SET - button . The 24hr/12hr system is blink-
ing.
• Press the SET - button to switch between 24hr and 12hr system.
• Press the OK - button to confirm. The hour digits are blinking.
• Press the SET - button repeatedly to increase the digit.
• Press the OK - button to confirm. The minutes digits are blinking.
• Repeat previous steps for setting the minutes, year, month and day.
• After setting the day, the unit will enter sleep mode setting.
9.2 SLEEP MODE
When sleep mode is not activated, the display is continuously ON.
The display will toggle between time and room temperature.
After setting the hour, sleep mode setting is displayed:
• Press the SET - button to switch between ON or OFF.
• Press the OK - button to confirm.

10 TEMPERATURE UNIT
• Power on the unit by pressing the START - button once. You will
hear a short beep. Time mode is displayed.
• Press simultaneous the START - button and OK - button .
• A single beep confirms that you have set the temperature to °C.
• A double beep confirms that you have set the temperature to °F.
11 DISPOSAL OF THE DEVICE (ENVIRONMENT)
At the end of the product lifecycle, you should not throw this
product into the normal household garbage but bring the
product to a collection point for the recycling of electrical and
electronic equipments. The symbol on the product, user guide
and/or box indicate this.
Some of the product materials can be re-used if you bring them
to a recycling point. By re-using some parts or raw materials from used
products you make an important contribution to the protection of the
environment. Please contact your local authorities in case you need more
information on the collection points in your area.

The CE symbol on the unit, user guide and giftbox indicates that the unit
complies with the essential requirements of the medical directive 93/42/EEC.

14 TOPCOM WARRANTY
14.1 WARRANTY PERIOD
The Topcom units have a 24-month warranty period. The warranty period
starts on the day the new unit is purchased. There is no warranty on standard
or rechargeable batteries (AA/AAA type).
Consumables or defects causing a negligible effect on operation or value of
the equipment are not covered.
The warranty has to be proven by presentation of the original or copy of the
purchase receipt, on which the date of purchase and the unit-model are
indicated.
14.2 WARRANTY HANDLING
A faulty unit needs to be returned to a Topcom service centre including a valid
purchase note and a filled in service card.
If the unit develops a fault during the warranty period, Topcom or its officially
appointed service center will repair any defects caused by material or
manufacturing faults free of charge, by either repairing or exchanging the
faulty units or parts of the faulty units. In case of replacement, colour and
model can be different from the original purchased unit.
The initial purchase date shall determine the start of the warranty period. The
warranty period is not extended if the unit is exchanged or repaired by
Topcom or its appointed service centre.
14.3 WARRANTY EXCLUSIONS
Damage or defects caused by incorrect treatment or operation and damage
resulting from use of non-original parts or accessories are not covered by the
warranty.
The warranty does not cover damage caused by outside factors, such as
lightning, water and fire, nor any damage caused during transportation.
No warranty can be claimed if the serial number on the units has been
changed, removed or rendered illegible.
Any warranty claims will be invalid if the unit has been repaired, altered or
modified by the buyer.

1 INLEIDING
De oor- en voorhoofdthermometer meet met behulp van infraroodtechnologie
de infrarode energie die wordt afgegeven door het voorhoofd of het
trommelvlies en het omringende weefsel, en zet dat dan om in een
temperatuurwaarde.
2 OVER DE LICHAAMSTEMPERATUUR
De normale lichaamstemperatuur schommelt in de loop van de dag; over het
algemeen is ze 's morgens het laagst en 's avonds het hoogst.
Verschillende delen van het menselijke lichaam hebben ook verschillende
temperaturen. Daarom zijn de normen voor het meten van orale, axillaire,
rectale en oortemperatuur verschillend. De lichaamstemperatuur wordt
geregeld en aangepast door de hypothalamus in de hersenen. De aders die
door de hypothalamus lopen, gaan ook door het trommelvlies in het
middenoor. Daarom is het meten van de temperatuur van het trommelvlies
een uitstekende manier om de lichaamstemperatuur te meten.
De normale lichaamstemperatuur is een bereik, geen vaste waarde.
Wanneer u een IR-oorthermometer gebruikt om de temperatuur op te nemen,
ligt het normale bereik van de lichaamstemperatuur tussen 35,8 °C en 38,0
°C. Het is ook meestal zo dat het normale temperatuurbereik afneemt met de
leeftijd.
Maar het normale bereik verschilt ook van persoon tot persoon. Het is erg
belangrijk om het normale temperatuurbereik van uzelf en uw familieleden te
bepalen. Dat is gemakkelijk met behulp van onze infraroodthermometer.
Neem een paar keer uw lichaamstemperatuur en die van uw familieleden in
gezonde toestand om hun normale temperatuurbereik te bepalen.
3 VEILIGHEIDSVOORSCHRIFTEN
- Lees de onderstaande informatie over veiligheid en een correct gebruik
zorgvuldig door. Leer alle functies van het toestel kennen. Bewaar deze
instructies zorgvuldig en geef ze indien nodig door aan derden.
- Deze thermometer is uitsluitend bedoeld voor huishoudelijk gebruik. Het
gebruik van deze thermometer kan een consult bij uw arts niet vervangen.
- Raak de infraroodsensor niet aan en blaas er niet op. Een vervuilde
infraroodsensor kan onjuiste waarden opleveren.

- Reinig een vervuilde infraroodsensor voorzichtig met een zachte, vochtige
doek. Als u toiletpapier of een papieren zakdoek gebruikt, kan de
infraroodsensor worden bekrast, met onjuiste waarden als gevolg.
- Houd het toestel buiten bereik van kinderen. Ruwe metingen door
kinderen bij zichzelf kunnen het oor beschadigen. Als per ongeluk een
batterij wordt ingeslikt, onmiddellijk een arts raadplegen.
- Na activiteiten buitenshuis moet u wachten met meten tot het oor weer op
temperatuur is, zodat u geen te lage uitslag verkrijgt.
- Na een douche of lichamelijke inspanning stijgt de lichaamstemperatuur.
Wacht dus even voordat u de temperatuur opneemt.
- Laat de thermometer op de plaats van de meting gedurende 30 minuten
op kamertemperatuur komen voor een juiste meting.
- Oorsmeer of oorstoppen beïnvloeden de nauwkeurigheid van de
thermometer.
- Staak het gebruik van het product als er pijn optreedt. Anders kunt u de
ooropening beschadigen.
- Het is niet aanbevolen het product te gebruiken bij personen die aan een
ooraandoening lijden, waaronder otitis externa en lymfangitis. De
aandoening kan hierdoor verergeren.
- Gebruik het product niet in een ooropening die nog nat is na zwemmen of
baden. Anders kunt u de ooropening beschadigen.
- Werp batterijen niet op het vuur. Batterijen kunnen ontploffen in vuur.
4 VERZORGING EN ONDERHOUD
• Bescherm de thermometer tegen schokken en trillingen en laat hem
niet vallen.
• Laat geen vloeistof in de thermometer binnendringen.
• Haal de thermometer niet uit elkaar, verander de constructie niet en
voer zelf geen reparaties uit.
• Houd de thermometer uit de buurt van kinderen.
• Reinig de hoofdeenheid van de thermometer met een zachte, droge
doek.

• Gebruik geen benzeen, benzine, verdunner of enig ander
reinigingsmiddel dat schuurmiddelen bevat.
• De meetlens is het gevoeligste onderdeel van de thermometer,
nauwkeurige meetresultaten zijn enkel mogelijk als de lens schoon
en onbeschadigd is.
• Als u de lens gaat reinigen, houdt u de thermometer naar beneden
zodat er geen vloeistof binnen kan dringen. Gebruik een in alcohol
gedrenkt watje om het oppervlak van de lens zachtjes en zorgvuldig
schoon te maken. Laat de lens een uur drogen voor u de
thermometer weer gebruikt.

8 HET GEBRUIK
Vervang de batterij wanneer ‘ ’ verschijnt.
Haal de batterij uit het batterijvak als u het toestel langere tijd niet
gebruikt.
De batterijen dienen op een milieuvriendelijke manier en volgens
de lokaal geldende voorschriften afgevoerd te worden.
- Onder de volgende omstandigheden raden we aan om de
temperatuur drie keer te nemen.
• Baby's in de eerste drie levensmaanden.
• Kinderen onder drie jaar die lijden aan een ziekte zoals
een aangetast immuunsysteem, voor wie de aan- of
afwezigheid van koorts van kritiek belang is.
• Wanneer u de thermometer net begint te gebruiken, tot u
vertrouwd bent met de techniek en consequentere
waarden verkrijgt.
- Wacht circa 30 seconden voordat u de temperatuur afneemt
bij dezelfde persoon, om overmatige afkoeling van de huid te
voorkomen.
- Als de temperatuurwaarden verschillen, gebruik dan de
hoogste waarde.
- Reinig het lensdeksel om zeker te zijn van een nauwkeurige
meting.
- Net als bij elk ander type thermometer kunnen lichte
afwijkingen in de temperatuur (+/- 0,2 - 0,3 °C) voorkomen bij
opeenvolgende metingen.

8.1 OORTEMPERATUUR
• Trek de voorhoofdlens van het toestel af.
• Druk op de START - toets om de
thermometer in te schakelen. Op de display
verschijnen alle symbolen.
Alvorens de lens in het oor te steken:
Voor kinderen < 1 jaar: Trek het oor naar
beneden en naar achteren.
Voor kinderen > 1 jaar en volwassenen:
Trek het oor naar boven en naar
achteren.
• Houd het oor vast en steek de lens zo ver in
de gehoorgang dat deze geheel wordt
afgesloten.
• Druk eenmaal op de START - toets . U hoort een korte pieptoon.
Het oormoduspictogram verschijnt.
• Wanneer u een dubbele pieptoon hoort, is de meting voltooid.
• Neem de thermometer uit de gehoorgang.
• De uitslag wordt weergegeven.
8.2 VOORHOOFDTEMPERATUUR
• Breng de voorhoofdlens aan .
• Plaats de lens zachtjes midden op het voorhoofd.
• Druk eenmaal op de START - toets . U hoort een korte pieptoon.
Het voorhoofdmoduspictogram verschijnt.
• Wanneer u een dubbele pieptoon hoort, is de meting voltooid.
• De uitslag wordt weergegeven.
Na voltooiing van de meting gaat het toestel na 30 seconden automatisch
terug naar de tijdmodus.
3 minuten nadat de tijdmodus is geactiveerd wordt de display automatisch
volledig uitgeschakeld.
8.3 TEMPERATUUR-LED
Wanneer het meetresultaat verschijnt, gaat de betreffende LED (3) branden.
• Groen lampje - 35,6 °C tot 37,2 °C (96 °F tot 99 °F)
• Oranje lampje - 37,3 °C tot 37,5 °C (99,1 °F tot 99,5 °F)
• Rood lampje - 37,6 °C tot 42,9 °C (99,6 °F tot 109,3 °F)

8.4 GEHEUGEN
Het resultaat van elke meting wordt automatisch in het geheugen
opgeslagen. Als het geheugen vol is (30 metingen), wordt het oudste
meetresultaat verwijderd.
Het geheugen oproepen:
• Druk op de START - toets om de thermometer in te schakelen.
• Druk herhaaldelijk op de INSTEL - toets om het geheugen te
doorlopen. Elk resultaat wordt weergegeven met datum en
volgnummer.
8.5 FOUTMELDINGEN OP DE DISPLAY
9 GEAVANCEERDE MODUS
9.1 TIJDINSTELLINGEN
• Schakel de thermometer in door eenmaal op de START - toets te
drukken. U hoort een korte pieptoon. De tijdmodus wordt
weergegeven.
• Houd de INSTEL - toets ingedrukt. De aanduiding voor 24-uurs/
12-uurssysteem knippert.
• Druk op de INSTEL -toets om te schakelen tussen het 24- en het
12-uurssysteem.

• Druk op de OK - toets om te bevestigen. De cijfers van het uur
knipperen.
• Druk herhaaldelijk op de INSTEL - toets om het cijfer te
verhogen.
• Druk op de OK - toets om te bevestigen. De cijfers van de
minuten knipperen.
• Herhaal de vorige stappen om de minuten, het jaar, de maand en de
dag in te stellen.
• Nadat de dag is ingesteld, gaat het toestel naar de instelling van de
slaapmodus.
9.2 SLAAPMODUS
Als de slaapmodus niet is geactiveerd, staat de display continu AAN.
De display geeft om beurten de tijd en de kamertemperatuur aan.
Nadat het uur is ingesteld, wordt de instelling van de slaapmodus
weergegeven:
• Druk op de INSTEL -toets om te wisselen tussen AAN en UIT.
• Druk op de OK - toets om te bevestigen.
10 EENHEID VAN TEMPERATUUR
• Schakel de thermometer in door eenmaal op de START - toets te
drukken. U hoort een korte pieptoon. De tijdmodus wordt weergegeven.
• Druk tegelijkertijd op de START - toets en de OK - toets .
• Eén pieptoon geeft aan dat u de temperatuur ingesteld hebt op °C.
• Een dubbele pieptoon geeft aan dat u de temperatuur ingesteld hebt
op °F.
11 HET TOESTEL AFVOEREN (MILIEU)
Na afloop van de levenscyclus van het product mag u het niet met
het normale huishoudelijke afval weggooien, maar moet u het
naar een inzamelpunt brengen voor recycling van elektrische en
elektronische apparatuur. Dit wordt aangeduid door het symbool
op het product, in de handleiding en/of op de verpakking.
Sommige materialen waaruit het product is vervaardigd, kunnen worden
hergebruikt als u ze naar een inzamelpunt brengt. Door onderdelen of
grondstoffen van gebruikte producten te hergebruiken, levert u een belangrijke
bijdrage aan de bescherming van het milieu. Wend u tot de plaatselijke
overheid voor meer informatie over de inzamelpunten bij u in de buurt.

14 TOPCOM-GARANTIE
14.1 GARANTIEPERIODE
Op de Topcom-toestellen wordt een garantie van 24 maanden verleend. De
garantieperiode gaat in op de dag waarop het nieuwe toestel wordt gekocht.
Er is geen garantie op standaard of oplaadbare batterijen (type AA/AAA).
Kleine onderdelen of defecten die een verwaarloosbaar effect hebben op de
werking of waarde van het toestel zijn niet gedekt door de garantie.
De garantie moet worden bewezen door voorlegging van het originele
aankoopbewijs of kopie waarop de datum van aankoop en het toesteltype
staat.
14.2 AFWIKKELING VAN GARANTIECLAIMS
Een defect toestel moet, samen met een geldig aankoopbewijs en een
ingevulde onderhoudskaart, worden teruggestuurd naar een Topcom-
hersteldienst.
Als het toestel tijdens de garantieperiode een defect vertoont, zal Topcom of
diens officieel erkende hersteldienst eventuele defecten te wijten aan
materiaal- of productiefouten gratis herstellen, door defecte toestellen of
onderdelen van defecte toestellen ofwel te herstellen ofwel te vervangen. In
het geval dat het toestel wordt vervangen, kan de kleur en het model
verschillend zijn van het oorspronkelijk gekochte toestel.
De oorspronkelijke aankoopdatum is bepalend voor het begin van de
garantieperiode. De garantieperiode wordt niet verlengd als het toestel wordt
vervangen of hersteld door Topcom of diens officieel erkende hersteldienst.
14.3 GARANTIEBEPERKINGEN
Schade of defecten te wijten aan onoordeelkundig gebruik of bediening en
schade te wijten aan het gebruik van niet-originele onderdelen of accessoires
worden niet gedekt door de garantie.
De garantie dekt geen schade te wijten aan externe factoren, zoals bliksem,
water en brand, noch enige transportschade.
Er kan geen garantie worden ingeroepen als het serienummer op het toestel
is gewijzigd, verwijderd of onleesbaar gemaakt.
Garantieclaims zijn ongeldig indien het toestel hersteld, gewijzigd of
aangepast werd door de koper.
