1-5 Precautions
(1) Even when two or more malfunctions are found, make sure to check the product according to the flow
chart.
(2) Make sure to turn OFF the power before the connector or PCB is replaced.
(3) In the case of a failure of the electric system, basically replace the PCB unit.

When the CPU PCB is replaced, it is necessary to check with the “FACTORY MENU”, to correct the
accuracy in each item and to set the parameters in “INITIAL MENU”.
When the CCD PCB is replaced, it is necessary to position the CCD using the “CCD POSITION” function in
the “FACTORY MENU” and to correct the accuracy in each item.
When the CCD PCB is to be replaced, be careful about scratch, dust or dirt on the CCD.
1-6 ROM Version Display
Usually, when the power to the instrument is turned ON, the “TOPCON” logo mark is displayed first, and
then the following image is displayed.
The bottom line shows the ROM version No. and in this example, the version No. is “1.00.00”.
Note:
When the CPU PCB has been replaced, this image is not displayed even when the power switch is
turned ON, but “NO CORRECT” is displayed. In this case, refer to “3-1 FACTORY MENU”.

(1) Turn ON the power switch and press the setup button at the bottom of the measurement screen.
(2) The setup menu screen appears. Press “SPECIAL”.
(3) Enter the password “0015”.

(4) The above “SPECIAL MENU” will be displayed.
Press the LCD screen to select each item. Select change in the box for each item and press the LCD
screen. Change the page using the or button on the upper section of the screen.
1-7-1 WAVELENGTH
The following items are changed by setting “WAVELENGTH.
d LINE →The measured value based on the “d” line (587.56mm) as the reference wavelength, is
displayed.
e LINE →The measured value based on the “e” line (546.07mm) as the reference wavelength, is
displayed.
1-7-2 LANGUAGE
Ten languages can be selected for the data on the screen. They can be changed from one to another by
setting “LANGUAGE”
For more information, refer to the separate sheet “TRANSLATION OF MENU SCREEN FOR CL-300”.
1-7-3 RS-232C
Normally, select “NORMAL”.
“CL-2000NEW” is applicable to the equipments connected to CL-2000. Select it if a trouble occurs in
“NORMAL”.
1-7-4 DIOPT CNV
Priority is given to the step change or frequency change by setting “DIOPT”.
STEP PRIORITY: When selected, the priority is given to step change.
TRNS PRIORITY: When selected, the priority is given to frequency change.

printed under the stored condition.

The numerical values are entered with the above command.

The use of “0.01” as the minimum unit of the displayed measured value is determined in this data box.

The use of “PRINTER” image in the “MENU” is determined in this data box.

1-7-10 DUST LEVEL
The dust detection sensitivity on the cover glass is determined by the “DUST LEVEL” setting,
ON →Input the detection sensitivity with 2-digit numerical value. When the value is larger, the
sensitivity is decreased and when it is set to “0”, the dust detection is always performed.
OFF →The dust is not detected.

1-7-18 PROGRAM DL
This function is used when the program is downloaded.

ON: When selected, “Cut” is performed after PRINT operation is completed.

2-1 Nomenclature
(1) Setup Button : When this button is pressed, the menu for the initial setting is displayed.
(2) +/- Button : This button is used when the power is changed.
(3) STEP Button : This button is used when the measured values are to be displayed in details.
(4) PRISM Button : This button is used when the PRISM value is displayed or display mode is
changed.

2-4 Measurement Principle
CL-300 has employed the imaging system different from that in CL-2500 or the manual lens meter LM. It
enables the non-imaging system by using the two-dimensional CCD.
The measurement principle is described based on the following optical arrangement sketch drawing.
The light emitted from the LED is changed into the spot light using the ball lens and then, it is changed into
parallel rays using the collimator lens. These rays are sent into the lens to be tested.
After going through the lens to be tested, the light is changed into 8-spot images using the target with the
eight circular openings and is projected on the surface of the two-dimensional CCD.
In the case that the lens to be tested has not been inserted (Fig 1), the light as parallel rays goes through the
openings on the target, and so the interval between the openings on the target is approximately equal to that
between the images created on the CCD. At that time, the positions of the images created on the CCD are
used as the reference positions.
On the contrary, when the lens to be tested with positive power, is inserted (Fig. 2), the interval between the
images on the CCD is smaller than that of the openings on the target.
In the case that the lens with cylindricality is inserted, the interval between the eight point images created on
the CCD is changed. This direction is regarded as the axial angle.
The light emitted from the UVLED is changed into the spot light using the ball lens and then, it is changed
into parallel rays using the collimator lens. These rays are sent into the lens to be tested.
After going through the lens to be tested, the light is projected on the two-dimensional CCD and is converted
into electricity. The light accumulated in the given time is calculated as the integral time.
The status without lens is regarded as “100%”. By comparing with the status with lens, transmittance is
calculated.

3. REPAIR WORKS
3-1 FACTORY MENU
Turn ON the power switch while pressing the MEMORY button. When you hear “beep”, press the
MEMORY button three times or select “SPECIAL” on the setup screen. The password entry screen will
appear. Enter the password and press the OK button. (Password: 0016)
The “FACTORY MENU” screen will appear.

(1) Set the printer paper roll in the printer and insert the RS232C check tool into the RS232C connector
located on the back side of the instrument.
(2) Tap and determine “SELF CHECK” when “FACTORY MENU” is displayed.

ERROR G3 : The CCD data cannot be taken in.
• When an error does not occur→Nothing is displayed.
(5) CCD POSITION CHECK
• When an error occurs →ERROR: The CCD data is not normal and cannot be taken in.
• An error does not occur →The CCD center position is indicated with XYR.
(6) LCD BACKLIGHT CHECK
• When an error occurs →The backlighting does not blink twice at the intervals of 0.5 seconds.
There is no error message. Check it visually.
(7) LCD CHECK
• When an error occurs →The whole image on the screen is not changed in the sequence of “from red
to green, to blue, to red, …” at intervals of 1 second. There is no error message. Check it visually.

(8) RS232C CHECK
• When an error occurs →R1 type: ERROR R0 to R2
R2 type: ERROR R3 to R5
The data is not normal or the data is not inputted.
When “SELF CHECK OK!!” is displayed, this case is not counted as an
error.
• When an error does not occur →Nothing is displayed.
(9) BUZZER CHECK
• When an error occurs →The high tone sound is not heard twice, and low tone sound is not heard
twice.
• There is no error message.
(10) SWITCH CHECK
It is possible to check the power switch and the MEMORY button.
Press the MEMORY button for a while, and the system proceeds to the next check.
(11) PRINTER CHECK
• There is no error message.
In the case of the specification with the printer, the test printing is performed. Check the test printing
visually.
C. OPN : Printer cover is open,
P. END : There is no printer paper.
OVR. H : The temperature of the printer unit is 80°C or more.
TH. NG : The thermister is disconnected.
CUT. NG : The cutter is NG.
(12) EEPROM CHECK
• When an error occurs →ERROR E0 to E1: CPU PCB malfunctions.
• When an error does not occur →Nothing is displayed.
(13) AD CONVERTER CHECK
• When an error occurs →NO REACTION: CPU PCB malfunctions.
• When an error does not occur →Nothing is displayed.
(14) USB CHECK
Make a folder of “¥CL-300¥PROG_DL” in the USB memory and put the file having a name of
CL-300.ROM into this folder. So you can perform this check.
