•ReadtheOperator’sManualforthetractionunit

•Becomefamiliarwiththesafeoperationofthe
equipment,operatorcontrols,andsafetysigns.
•Theowner/operatorcanpreventandisresponsible
foraccidentsthatmaycausepersonalinjuryor

protection;substantial,slip-resistantfootwear;

•Inspectthebladeperiodicallyforwearordamage.
•Usecarewhencheckingtheblades.Wrapthe
bladesorweargloves,andusecautionwhen
servicingtheblades.Onlyreplaceorsharpenthe
blades;neverstraightenorweldthem.
•Onmulti-bladedmachines,takecareasrotating1
bladecancauseotherbladestorotate.
•Checktheblademountingboltsfrequentlytobe
surethattheyaretightenedtospecication.

Removethekeyfromtheignitionbeforeyou
performanymaintenance.
AdjustingtheHeightofCut
Theheightofcutcanbeadjustedfrom25to127mm
(1to5inches)in6mm(1/4inch)increments.
CenterDeck
Youcanchangeheheightofcutonthecenterdeck
bymovingthestoppinintodifferentholelocations.
1.Withtheenginerunning,pushbackonthe
mowerliftswitchuntilthemowerisfullyraised
andreleasetheswitchimmediately.
2.Rotatethestoppinuntilthenubonitlinesup
withtheslotsintheholesintheheight-of-cut
bracketandremoveit(Figure4).

heightofcut,movetheskidsandrollertothe
highestholes.
4.Securetheadjustmentwiththetensioningcap.
AdjustingtheSideSkids
Mounttheskidsinthelowerpositionwhenoperating
ina64mm(2-1/2inch)orhighercuttingheightandin
thehigherpositionwhenoperatinginacuttingheight
lowerthan64mm(2-1/2inches).
Note:Whentheskidsbecomeworn,youcanswitch
theskidstotheoppositesidesofthemower,ipping
themover.Thisallowsyoutousetheskidslonger
beforereplacingthem.
1.DisengagethePTOandengagetheparking
brake.
2.MovethethrottlelevertotheSLOWposition,
shutofftheengine,removethekey,andwait
forallmovingpartstostopbeforeleavingthe
operatingposition.
3.Loosenthescrewatthefrontofeachskid

UsingtheFastThrottleSetting
andAdjustingtheGroundSpeed
Tomaintainenoughpowerforthemachineanddeck
whilemowing,operatetheengineatthefastthrottle
positionandadjustyourgroundspeedforconditions.
Decreasethegroundspeedastheloadonthecutting
bladesincreases,andincreasethegroundspeedas
theloadonthebladesdecreases.
AlternatingMowingDirection
Alternatethemowingdirectiontoavoidmakingrutsin
theturfovertime.Thisalsohelpsdisperseclippings,
whichenhancesdecompositionandfertilization.
SelectingtheCuttingSpeed
Toimprovecutquality,useaslowergroundspeed.
SelectingtheProperHeight-of-Cut
SettingtoSuitConditions
Removeapproximately25mm(1inch)orno
morethan1/3ofthegrassbladewhencutting.In
exceptionallylushanddensegrass,youmayhaveto
slowdowntheforwardspeedand/orraisetheheight
ofcuttothenexthighersetting.
CuttingLongGrass
Ifthegrassiseverallowedtogrowslightlylongerthan
normal,orifitcontainsahighdegreeofmoisture,
raisethecuttingheighthigherthanusualandcutthe
grassatthissetting.Thencutthegrassagainusing
thelower,normalsetting.
KeepingtheMowerClean
Cleanclippingsanddirtfromtheundersideofthe
moweraftereachuse.Ifgrassanddirtbuildupinside
themower,cuttingqualitywilleventuallybecome
unsatisfactory.
Toreducetheriskofrehazard,keeptheengine,
mufer,batterycompartment,parkingbrake,cutting
units,andfuelstoragecompartmentfreeofgrass,
leaves,orexcessivegrease.Cleanupanyspilledoil
orfuel.
Usecompressedairoraleafblowertocleanthebelt
drivearea.Installanyremovedguardsorcoversafter
cleaning.
MaintainingtheBlade
Maintainasharpbladethroughoutthecuttingseason
becauseasharpbladecutscleanlywithouttearingor
shreddingthegrassblades.Tearingandshredding,
whichturnsgrassbrownattheedges,slowsgrowth
andincreasesthechanceofdisease.Checkthe
bladesdailyforsharpness,andforanywearor
damage.Sharpenthebladesasnecessary.Ifablade
isdamagedorworn,replaceitimmediatelywitha
genuineT ororeplacementblade.Referto(page).

Alwayssecurethemachinewithatleast2jackstandswhenyouhavethemowerdeckraised.
CAUTION
Onthetopofthemowerdeckare2linksthatconnectthemtotheframe.Connectedto
theselinksaretorsionspringsthatareundertension(Figure14).Ifyoudisconnectthelink,
thestoredenergyinthetorsionspringwillbereleasedandcouldcausethelinkstomove,
damagingyourhandsorngers.
Becarefulwhenremovingthemowerdeckfromtheframeandsecurethelinksbefore
disconnectingthemfromtheframe.

stoptheengine,removethekey,andwaitfor
allmovingpartstostopbeforeleavingthe
operatingposition.
5.Liftthefootrest,exposingthetopofthemower
deck.
6.Removethedipstick/llplugfromthetopofthe
gearbox(Figure22)andmakesurethatthe
lubricantisbetweenthemarksonthedipstick.

deck.
6.Removethedipstick/llplugfromthetopofthe
gearbox(Figure22).
7.Placeadrainpanunderthedrainpluglocated
underthefrontofthegearboxandremovethe
plug,drainingthelubricantintothepan.
8.Replacethedrainplug.
9.Addenoughlubricant,approximately414ml(14
oz),untilthelevelisbetweenthemarksonthe
dipstick.
Important:Donotoverllthegearboxand
operatethemowerdeck;otherwise,youmay
damagethegearbox.

RefertoFigure23forroutingthedrivebeltsappropriately.

ServicingtheBushingsin
theCasterArms
Thecasterarmshavebushingspressedintothe
topandbottomofthetubeandaftermanyhoursof
operation,thebushingswear.Tocheckthebushings,
movethecasterforkbackandforthandfromsideto
side.Ifthecasterspindleislooseinsidethebushings,
thebushingsareworn;replacethem.
1.Raisethecuttingunitsothatthewheelsareoff
theoor.Blockthecuttingunitsothatitcannot
accidentallyfall.
2.Removethetensioningcap,spacer(s),and
thrustwasherfromthetopofthecasterspindle.
3.Pullthecasterspindleoutofthemountingtube.
Allowthethrustwasherandspacer(s)toremain
onthebottomofthespindle.
4.Insertapinpunchintothetoporbottomofthe
mountingtubeanddrivethebushingoutofthe
tube(Figure24).

thewheelhub.
8.Installthecasterwheelassemblybetweenthe
casterforkandsecureitinplacewiththebolt
andlocknut.
ServicingtheBlades
Maintainsharpbladesthroughoutthecuttingseason
becausesharpbladescutcleanlywithouttearingor
shreddingthegrassblades.Tearingandshredding
turnsgrassbrownattheedges,whichslowsgrowth
andincreasesthechanceofdisease.
Checkthebladesdailyforsharpness,andforany
wearordamage.Sharpenthebladesasnecessary.
Ifabladeisdamagedorworn,replaceitimmediately
withagenuineTororeplacementblade.
DANGER
Awornordamagedbladecanbreak,anda
pieceofthebladecouldbethrowntowardyou
orabystander,resultinginseriouspersonal
injuryordeath.
•Inspectthebladeperiodicallyforwearor
damage.
•Replaceawornordamagedblade.
Inspectandcheckthebladesevery8hours.

edgesarenotsharporhavenicks,removeand
sharpentheblades.Referto(page).
2.Inspecttheblades,especiallythesailarea
(Figure26).Ifyounoticeanydamage,wear,ora
slotforminginthisarea(Figure26),immediately
installanewblade.
DANGER
Ifyouallowthebladetowear,aslotwill
formbetweenthesailandatpartofthe
blade.Eventuallyapieceoftheblade
maybreakoffandbethrownfromunder
thehousing,possiblyresultinginserious
injuryordeathtoyouorbystanders.
•Inspectthebladeperiodicallyforwear
ordamage.
•Nevertrytostraightenabladethat
isbentorweldabrokenorcracked
blade.
•Replaceawornordamagedblade.
