Limitation of Warranty and
Liability (effective February 2015)

Seller warrants the goods, excluding software, sold hereunder, under normal use and
service as described in the operator's manual, to be free from defects in workmanship and
material for 12 months, or if less, the length of time specified in the operator's manual, from
the date of shipment to the customer. This warranty period is inclusive of any statutory
warranty. This limited warranty is subject to the following exclusions and exceptions:
a. Hot-wire or hot-film sensors used with research anemometers, and certain other
components when indicated in specifications, are warranted for 90 days from the date of
shipment;
b. Pumps are warranted for hours of operation as set forth in product or operator’s
manuals;
c. Parts repaired or replaced as a result of repair services are warranted to be free from
defects in workmanship and material, under normal use, for 90 days from the date of
shipment;
d. Seller does not provide any warranty on finished goods manufactured by others or on
any fuses, batteries or other consumable materials. Only the original manufacturer's
warranty applies;
e. This warranty does not cover calibration requirements, and seller warrants only that the
instrument or product is properly calibrated at the time of its manufacture. Instruments
returned for calibration are not covered by this warranty;
f. This warranty is VOID if the instrument is opened by anyone other than a factory
authorized service center with the one exception where requirements set forth in the
manual allow an operator to replace consumables or perform recommended cleaning;
g. This warranty is VOID if the product has been misused, neglected, subjected to
accidental or intentional damage, or is not properly installed, maintained, or cleaned
according to the requirements of the manual. Unless specifically authorized in a separate
writing by Seller, Seller makes no warranty with respect to, and shall have no liability in
connection with, goods which are incorporated into other products or equipment, or
which are modified by any person other than Seller.
The foregoing is IN LIEU OF all other warranties and is subject to the LIMITATIONS stated
herein. NO OTHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF FITNESS FOR
PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR MERCHANTABILITY IS MADE. WITH RESPECT TO
SELLER’S BREACH OF THE IMPLIED WARRANTY AGAINST INFRINGEMENT, SAID
WARRANTY IS LIMITED TO CLAIMS OF DIRECT INFRINGEMENT AND EXCLUDES
CLAIMS OF CONTRIBUTORY OR INDUCED INFRINGEMENTS. BUYER’S EXCLUSIVE
REMEDY SHALL BE THE RETURN OF THE PURCHASE PRICE DISCOUNTED FOR

TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE EXCLUSIVE REMEDY OF THE USER OR
BUYER, AND THE LIMIT OF SELLER'S LIABILITY FOR ANY AND ALL LOSSES,
INJURIES, OR DAMAGES CONCERNING THE GOODS (INCLUDING CLAIMS BASED
ON CONTRACT, NEGLIGENCE, TORT, STRICT LIABILITY OR OTHERWISE) SHALL BE
THE RETURN OF GOODS TO SELLER AND THE REFUND OF THE PURCHASE PRICE,
OR, AT THE OPTION OF SELLER, THE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF THE GOODS.
IN THE CASE OF SOFTWARE, SELLER WILL REPAIR OR REPLACE DEFECTIVE
SOFTWARE OR IF UNABLE TO DO SO, WILL REFUND THE PURCHASE PRICE OF

DISMANTLING OR REINSTALLATION COSTS OR CHARGES. No Action, regardless of

loss, and will be returned, if at all, at Seller's risk of loss.
Buyer and all users are deemed to have accepted this LIMITATION OF WARRANTY AND
LIABILITY, which contains the complete and exclusive limited warranty of Seller. This
LIMITATION OF WARRANTY AND LIABILITY may not be amended, modified or its terms
waived, except by writing signed by an Officer of Seller.

Introduction and
Unpacking
Thank you for purchasing TSI®Incorporated’s S9900 Calibration System
for Model 8220/9303/9306 Handheld, Model 6310/6510/7301/7301P/
7501/7310/7510 Remote, and Model 8240/8260/9310/9510/9350/
9550/9500 Portable Airborne Particle Counters. This setup manual will
help you quickly begin using your S9900 Calibration System.
More detailed information is in the manual for each model of airborne
particle counters. This document will help you set up and prepare to
calibrate many TSI®particle counters. Please refer to the service
manuals for specific calibration procedures.

System Setup
The standard setup uses all of the S9900 Calibration System components.
Set up f o r Dry PSL
For all PSL sizes 3 µm and greater, dry PSL is used. Use filter from kit
710019. Remove fitting and add 1 to 2 puffs of dry PSL into filter and then
put fitting back on filter. In order to prevent particle size contamination, a
separate filter should be used for each size. In practice, it is a good idea
to label the nebulizer per particle size.

1. Remove the nut from the open end of the dilution tee (S7000148) and
remove the nylon ferrules. Replace with the extra ½” port connector.

2. Connect 2” pieces of 0.44” I.D. (710017) tubing to each side of the
dilution tee and connect one of the 100 L/min zero filter assemblies
(700098) to one side. The smaller, middle port is used for the PSL
carrying filter assemblies.

Set up t he Flow Cal Fl ow Met er Ass embly
The dilution bridge will come pre-assembled. The dilution bridge allows
adjustment of the particles concentration.
1. Attach double HEPA filter (700015) to the intake side of the 4043
flow meter.
2. Cut a 2” piece of 0.69” ID tubing (710018), and attach it to the other
side of the 4040 flow meter.
3. Cut a 24” piece of 0.44 ID tubing (710017) and connect it to the 0.69”
ID tubing.
Set up t he Ne buliz er
The nebulizer is used to inject particles of a known size into the
calibration equipment. The nebulizer will be pre-assembled for use.
Fill the nebulizer to 10 ml mark with 0.2 µm filtered or distilled water.
Add a drop or drops of the desired size of PSL particles. In order to
prevent particle size contamination, a separate nebulizer should be
used for each size. In practice, it is a good idea to label the nebulizer
per particle size. DO NOT leave the PSL in the nebulizer for more than
two weeks. Recommended Manufacturer for PSL is Thermo Fisher
Scientific®and Polysciences®.

Connect the nebulizer to the nebulizer pump through the bottom of the
nebulizer. DO NOT connect the top connection. Turn on the nebulizer
pump and adjust the pressure valve so that a vapor mist is visible rising
from the nebulizer. Using a black background behind the nebulizer will
assist in seeing the vapor mist. Now adjust the pressure valve so aerosol
output from the nebulizer is barely visible. By using as minimal amount of
aerosol as possible, the PSL solution will be conserved and excessive
condensation in the sample tubes will be minimized.

The dilution bridge and particle generator will come pre-assembled. The
dilution bridge allows adjustment of the particles concentration.
1. Tubing 0.19” ID (801688) should be cut to 8-12” long.
2. Connect the nebulizer (S7000050) at the top with 0.19” ID (801688)
tube to the dilution bridge (S7000051).
