10,000SD Allows for Analysis of Valve Operation.
Sustaining Mechanically Based Systems is One
of the Most Expensive Utilities, Assessing

Root Cause in Order to Maintain Current and
Future Successful Operations.

INITIAL SETUP
To Power On the Ultraprobe 10,000SD, Pull and
Hold the Instrument Trigger. Keep Trigger
Pulled for Instrument to Remain ON. The Unit
Will Power On in the Main Display.
The Ultraprobe 10,000SD Powers On in
Default Mode of 40KHz with the Sensitivity at
Maximum (70). (Unless Previously Changed)

INITIAL SETUP
To Set Up the Ultraprobe 10,000SD for Valve
Inspection, Center the Frequency to 25KHz
Using the Sensitivity Dial. “Click” Dial Until
“KHZ” is Flashing, Then Spin to the Desired
Frequency. Once 25KHz is Reached, Click the
Sensitivity Dial Again to Set That Frequency.
Then Insert the Stethoscope Module (STM) or
the Remote Magnetic Transducer (RMT) into
the Module Port. Modules are Removed By
Pulling Module Straight Out of Port Without
Twisting.

INITIAL SETUP
Select the Valve Application from the Setup Menu
Located in the Function Bar. Press the Sensitivity
Dial Until the Setup Menu is Flashing, Then Press
the ENTER Button. Spin the Dial to find Menu #3,
Application Select. To Enter the Menu, Click the
Dial Again.
From Menu #3, Application Select, Spin the
Sensitivity Dial to Navigate to VALVES, Then
Click the Dial Again to Save That Selection.
Once VALVES is ENABLED, Press the ENTER
Button to Return to the Main Display.

Download the DMS Software from UESystems.com,
This Will Allow Inspectors to Create a Route(s) for
Each Valve Within the System. Each Route Can
House Up to 400 Valves and Can Be Uploaded to
the Ultraprobe 10,000SD For Organized Data
Collection and Review.
Each Route is Stored Within the Plant Created
Within the DMS Software and is Available for
Upload/Download and Review at Anytime.
NOTE: the DMS Software is NOT Required if Using the
Ultraprobe 10,000SD as a Troubleshooting Tool ONLY.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
With the Route Uploaded to the Ultraprobe, and the
Frequency Set to 25KHz, Collect Data. Make Contact
With the First Test Point Using the A,B,C,D And
Sometimes E Method. This Method Incorporates Four
Individual Data Points, Two (2) Upstream and Two
(2) Downstream Per Valve to Uncover the Source of
the Ultrasonic Signal.
For Each Test Point, Adjust and Optimize
the Sensitivity to Capture a Decibel (dB)
Value and if Necessary, Tune Frequency to
Obtain a Good Quality Signal. Always Ensure
Adequate Knowledge of the Valve and
Operation Prior to Inspection.

A, B, C, D, AND SOMETIMES E METHOD
The A,B,C,D And Sometimes E Method is a Fast, and
Easy Way to Determine Not Only the Position of the
Valve, But the Condition of the Valve. This Method
is Utilized to Confirm the Source of Detected
Turbulence. This Simplistic Method Allows for
Consistent, Repeatable Testing.
1. Test Point “A” is Three Times (3x) the Diameter
of the Piping Away From the Valve On the Upstream
Side.
2. Test Point “B” is One Times (1x) the Diameter of
the Piping Away From the Valve On the Upstream
Side.
3. Test Points “C” and “D” Mirror Test Points “A”
and “B” On the Downstream Side of the Valve.

The A,B,C,D and Sometimes E Method Contains Four (4) Easy Rules For Valve Condition Diagnosis:
1. If Test Point Cis the Loudest, LEAK-BY is Present.
2. If Decibel Lowers From Test Points A -D, the Valve is CLOSED.
3. If Readings are the Same Or Similar, the Valve is OPEN.
4. If Dis Higher Than A,B, And C, the Ultrasonic SOURCE IS DOWNSTREAM. Incorporate Test Point E. (Check Downstream)

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
When Conducting Valve Inspections, Transitioning
Displays is a Critical Component for Organized Data
Acquisition and Diagnoses. When VALVE Application
is Selected, Enter the Setup Menu From the
Function Bar Via the ENTER Button. Enter Menu #2,
Display Screens By Pressing the Sensitivity Dial.
Spin the Sensitivity Dial to ABCD, Then Press
the Dial Again to Save that Display Option.
The Main Display Will Now Show the Four (4)
Necessary Test Points Marked A,B,C and D.
Allowing Separate Acquisition Options for Each
Valve.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
When Optimizing the Sensitivity for Each Data
Point, Arrow Indicators Guide Which Direction to
Spin the Dial. A RIGHT Arrow Indicates the
Sensitivity is Too Low, the Dial Must Be Turned to
the Right to Obtain a Decibel. A LEFT Arrow
Indicates the Sensitivity is Too High.
When the Sensitivity is Optimized, a Decibel
(dB) Will Populate On the Display, Ready to Be
Applied to That Test Point. The Ultraprobe
10,000SD Display Indicates Which Test Point
Value is Being Acquired. Simply Press ENTER
to Store That Value. Once All Four (4) Data
Point Values are Stored, Condition Assessment
Can Be Initiated.

Once Downloaded, Create Routes for Each Valve Within the System.
Designating Specific Inspection Processes and Methodology. Directly
Supporting Organization and Repair. The DMS Software Allows for Data
Storage and Report Generation. From the Reports Tab, Select the Desired
Report, Then Select “Generate Selected Report”.
