Unitech PA600
Windows Mobile Ve sion
Ove view and Setup
The General Store now supports the PA660, a rugged, compact and ergonomic
handheld terminal powered by the WinCE NET OS It incorporates an integral barcode
scanning laser/CCD device, color LCD with touch screen, keypad, BT and wireless
communication interface capability
You PA660 Includes…
Your PA660 kit contains the following components:

Step 1 - Connect the USB C adle
The USB cradle is used for two purposes:
1. Charging the PA660 main and backup batteries.
2. Uploading new programs and updates via Active S nc USB connection.
Since you are using the wireless version of the General Store interface software,
connection of the USB cable is optional However, you must use the AC adapter that
came with the PA660 to power the USB Cradle
Step 2 - Check the Batte y and Powe Configu ation
Your battery has been installed and charged by Crichlow Data Sciences, Inc The
instructions below are provided mainly as a reference if you ever have to install a new
battery, or perform a cold boot on your Unitech PA660
Installing a New Batte y
 WARNING! There is a risk of fire and burns if the battery pack is handled
improperly. DO NOT disassemble, crush, puncture, short external contacts, or
dispose the battery pack in fire or water. DO NOT attempt to open or service the
battery pack. Dispose of used batteries according to local recycling guidelines in
your area.
A backup battery cell is embedded into your device to prevent data loss in instances
when the removable battery pack is removed or completely discharged The backup
battery will keep the data and system setting for up to 6 hours if the main battery is
removed

 NOTE: To enable the internal battery cell to provide backup power supply,
charge your device with the main battery pack for at least 1 hours.
1 Open the battery compartment by pushing the latch in the direction of the arrow
and lifting up
The battery compartment is displayed:
NOTE: The plastic battery tab makes it easy to remove the battery
2 Locate the backup battery switch and turn it on
3 Position the battery pack, making sure the battery contacts are aligned with the
contacts in the compartment and the battery is placed on top of the plastic tab, as
shown in the following illustration
4 Slide the battery pack into the battery bay while simultaneously pulling the battery
hook until the battery clicks into place
5 Replace the battery compartment cover

Cha ging the Batte ies
The main and backup batteries are charged by placing the PA660 in the cradle/docking
station (first connect the power supply to the Docking Station)
Fi st Time to Cha ge the Main Batte y & Backup Batte y
We would like to propose to charge the battery at least up to 12 hours for the first time
to use While it normally only takes about 4 hours to charge the battery after it's been
drained, when charging the battery for the first time please allow at least 12 hours
While charging the main battery the backup battery should also be charged Please make
sure the backup battery has been switched “ON” (this cannot be emphasized enough)
1 Plug the AC adapter cable into the power jack on the docking station, and then
connect the AC adapter into an electrical outlet
2 Slide the device into the docking station until it clicks into place
3 The connection is secure when the bottom edge of the device is aligned with the
docking station, and the LED indicator on the device lights up red

Batte y Levels
If the battery level becomes low in the course of normal use, a status icon appears on
the device screen indicating low or very low battery status In both cases, perform an
Active-Sync operation to back up your data, and then recharge your device as soon as
possible
If the battery level reaches a low status, the device will enter sleep mode and cannot be
powered up until the battery is charged
 CAUTION: There is a high risk of data loss from RAM if the backup battery is
not fully charged. This can happen if the main battery has been drained and the
unit is not connected to the AC adaptor. For this reason, it is crucial that the
backup battery is switched on before charging the main battery for the first time.

 NOTE: Your PA 0 has already been powered up and configured by Crichlow
Data Sciences, Inc. Should you ever have to perform a cold boot on your PA 0,
follow the instructions below when turning on the PA 0 for the first time after
the cold boot.

With the stylus, tap Start, Settings, and then tap the System tab
You will then see the following screen:
Here, we recommend leaving the orientation set to Portrait Tap the “Align Screen”
button

Follow the directions provided When complete, you will be returned to the Orientation
screen shown below Tap “ok” in the upper right hand corner That’s it Your screen is
aligned
Setting Time Zone/ Date
Before using the PA600 please take a few minutes to set the time and date so that data
can be properly time-stamped

Follow the steps below to set up your time zone
1 From the main Windows Mobile screen, tap the current time and date bar:

Softwa e Keyboa d (Windows CE Keyboa d)
Besides its hardware keypad, the PA660 provides a touch screen keyboard as an
alternative method of character input This software keyboard replicates the layout of a
standard PC keyboard
Opening the Windows Mobile Keyboa d:
The Windows Mobile keyboard can be opened by tapping the “keyboard” icon on the
task bar (Refer to picture)

Configu ing You Ba code Scanne
Your Unitech PA660 comes equipped with an integrated laser barcode scanner It is set at the
factory in terms of symbologies like UPCA, UPCE, Code 39, etc
If for some reason, you need to custom configure the barcode scanner, follow these steps
1 Tap Start, Settings, and select the system tab:
2 Tap the Scanner icon shown above (circled in red above) Now you can set the
barcode symbologies as desired Tap the “+” plus sign next to the “Barcode
Symbologies” option to expand the tree Then scroll to the symbology you wish to
edit and click the plus sign again, to expand that selection In the example below,
we selected the UPCA symbology

3 We then turned on the “Transmit check char/digit” option
To save your changes, tap the “Apply” button
