Introduction
This manual covers the operation of internal combustion
powered models of the SB-80 Boom. This manual must
be stored on the machine at all times.
Pre-Operation and Safety
Inspection
Carefully read, understand and follow all safety
rules, labels, and operating instructions, then
perform the following steps each day before use.
Perform a complete visual inspection of the entire unit
prior to operatin . Check the followin areas for discrep-
ancies:
1. Open panels and check hydraulic components / hoses
for dama e or leaks. Check electrical components /
wirin for dama e or loose connections.
2. Inspect chassis, axles, hubs, and steerin linka e
for dama e, deformation, buckled paint, loose or
missin hardware, and cracked welds.
3. Check tires for dama e, punctures, and inflation; tire
pressure must be 7 bar (100 psi).
4. Check all hoses / cables for wear.
5. Inspect elevatin assembly for dama e, deforma-
tion, buckled paint, loose or missin hardware, and
cracked welds.
6. Inspect platform and uardrails for dama e, defor-
mation, buckled paint, loose or missin hardware,
and cracked welds. Insure that ate operates freely.
7. Check Hydraulic fluid level with platform fully lowered.
8. Check fluid level in batteries (see Battery mainte-
nance, pa e 10).
9. Check fuel level, add fuel if necessary (see Fueling,
pa e 10).
10. Check en ine oil level.
NEVER remove the cap from a hot radiator. Hot
coolant can cause severe burns.
11. Ensure that radiator is cold, check coolant level. Add
if necessary.
SYS EM FUNC ION INSPEC ION
Note: Refer to Figures 1 through 5 for chassis and
platform control locations.
IMPOR AN : Before performing the System Func-
tion Inspection be sure the axles are fully extended.
For axle extending instructions, refer to "Extending
and retracting Axles" (Page 6).
1. Before performin the followin tests, check area
around machine and overhead for obstructions,
holes, drop-offs, and debris.
2. Turn chassis key switch to chassis, and pull out
emer ency stop switches at the chassis control
panel and at the platform control panel.
3. Retract lockin bolt. See Fi ure 1.
4. Press the en ine start button to crank the en ine;
release when en ine starts.
5. Push in the chassis emer ency stop button, en ine
should stop. Repeat for platform emer ency stop
button. Return both emer ency stop buttons to the
on position, and start en ine.
6. With axles fully extended, operate each function
switch to raise / lower, extend/retract, rotate left/
ri ht, each section of the elevatin assembly and
observe the operation of the machine. All functions
should operate throu h full cycle smoothly.
7. Turn chassis key switch to platform.
8. Mount the platform, and (If required by National
Le islation) attach approved fall restraint to desi -
nated platform anchora e point. Attach only one fall
restraint to each point.
9. While en a in the hand interlock, move the drive
control handle forward and reverse. Observe that
proportional functions operate smoothly, and that
brakes apply quickly after control is released.
10. While en a in the hand interlock, operate steer
switch to left and ri ht. Observe that steerin wheels
turn properly.
11. While depressin foot switch, operate boom con-
trols. Observe that boom operates smoothly, and
that boom raise and lower, turret rotation, and boom
extension and retraction operate proportionally in
conjunction with stroke of handle. Observe that
platform maintains level when boom is elevated.
