Thank you for purchasing the Disney Create-A-Story™ system ! Create-A-Story™ will
bring your child to a wonder ful world of reading and make Disney stories come to life !
Featuring the cast of charac ters from Disney, this book uses a smart pen, cartridge,
and two books to engage children in lear ning and storytelling! There are two ways to
play Create-A-StoryTM. It can either be played while on the go, or it can plug directly
into the TV!

BATTERY INSTALLATION
• Make sure the unit is turned OFF.
• Locate the battery cover at the back of
Create-A-Story™.
• Inser t 4 X 1.5 V AM-3 size “AA” or LR6
batteries as illustrated.
• Replace the bat tery cover.
Note: Whe n Create-A-Story™ is runni ng low on bat teries, yo u may see this i con
appear on t he right co rner of the T V scree n. This indicates tha t batter y power is low,
and you shou ld replac e the batte ries soon . Batter y time rem aining on ce the ico n first
appears i s approxim ately 10-3 0 minutes , depend ing on the t ype of bat teries in us e. If
the batter ies are exha usted, the i con will s tay on scree n for 5 secon ds, and the n will
turn off au tomatic ally.
BATTERY NOTICE
• Install batteries correctly observing the polarity (+, ) signs to avoid leakage.
• Do not mix old and new batteries.
• Do not mix batteries of different types: alkaline, standard ( carbon-zinc) or
rechargeable (nickel-cadmium).
• Remove the batteries from the equipment when the unit will not be used for an
extended period of time.
• Always remove exhausted batteries from the equipment.
• Do not dispose of batteries in fire.
• Do not attempt to recharge ordinary bat teries.
• The supply terminals are not to be short-circuited.
• Only batteries of the same and equivalent type as rec ommended are to be used.
WE DO NOT RECOM MEND THE USE OF RECHARGEABLE BATTER IES.
AC/DC ADAPTOR
• Use a VTech®9V 300mA AC/DC adaptor or a standard AC/ DC adaptor
with equivalent specification.
• Make sure the unit is turned OFF.
• Plug t he power jack into the 9V DC socket.
• Plug t he AC adaptor into a wall socket.
Note: Th e use of an adaptor will overr ide the batteries . When the toy is not going t o be in use
for an exten ded perio d of time, un plug the ad aptor.
Music On/Off Button
Press this button to turn
the background music
on or off.

AC/DC Adaptor Jack
You can use an AC/DC adaptor as
a power source.
TV Mode Signal
This lights up when the TV
Mode is in use and both
ends of the AV cable are
connected properly.
Pen Cable Storage
Slide the pen cable inside to
keep it stored neatly.
Headphone Jack
This allows you to hear only through a
pair of headphones (not included).
Volume Buttons
Press the up arrow to increase
the volume, or press the down
arrow to decrease the volume.
Cartridge Slot
Insert the cartridge into this
slot to begin play. Please note
a cartridge must be inserted
before you can turn the
console on.
On/Off Switch
Slide the switch to the left to
turn the console on and lock
the cartridge into place. Slide
the switch to the right to turn
the console off and unlock the
cartridge.
Battery Compartment
Please refer to Page 5 for
more information.
Smart Pen
Use the pen to touch the
pages and play.
Microphone Jack
This allows you to plug a microphone into the
console (mono microphone sold separately).

TECHNICAL SUPPORT
STANDARD GUIDELINES FOR ADAPTOR TOYS
• This toy is not intended for use by children under 3 years old.
• Only use the rec ommended adaptor with the toy.
• The transformer is not a toy.
• Never clean a plugged-in toy with liquid.
• Never use more than one adaptor.
• Do not leave the toy plugged in for extended periods of time.
CONNECTING Create-A-Story™TO A TV
Note: Bef ore you conn ect Create-A-Story™ to a T V, please check a nd make sure th at the
console i s working . Insert t he AV cable into t he AV jack. Onc e you have turne d the
console o n, the TV Mode signa l will glow. If th is does not o ccur, please check the a daptor
or batteri es, and ens ure the AV cable i s properl y connec ted. Make sur e that your T V and
the conso le are both t urned of f before you be ing makin g any connec tions.
AUDIO INPUT CONNECTION
• Connect the yellow plug on the Create-A-Story™ cable to the
yellow video input terminal on your TV.
• Connect the white plug on the Create-A-Story™ cable to the white
audio input terminal on your T V.
CONNECTING Create-A-Story™TO A VCR
If there is no video IN
and audio IN terminal
on your TV set, you
can connect Create-A-
Story™ to a VCR.
• Connect the yellow plug on the Create-A-Story™ cable to the
yellow video input terminal on your VCR.
• Connect the white plug on the Create-A-Story™ cable to the white
audio input terminal on your VCR.
TWO WAYS TO PLAY
You can also play with Create-A-Stor y™ without a TV set . Listen to your favorite Disney
stories through the speaker when you are playing in the On-the-Go Mode. You can
carry it along during travel!
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
• Keep your Create-A-Story™ clean by wiping it with a slightly damp cloth. Never use
solvents or abrasives.
• Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from direct sources of heat.
• Always keep Create-A-Story™ away from water, sand and dirt.
• Avoid dropping it. Never try to dismantle it.
WARNING
A very small percentage of the public, due to an existing condition, may experience
epileptic seizures or momentary loss of consc iousness when viewing c ertain t ypes
of flashing colors or patterns, espe cially on television. While Create-A-Story™ does
not contribute to any additional risks, we do recommend that parents supervise their
children while they play games on a TV. If your child experiences dizziness, altered
vision, disorientation, or convulsions, discontinue use immediately and consult your
physician.
Please note that focusing on a television screen at close range for a prolonged period
of time may cause fatigue or discomfort. We recommend that children take a 15-
minute break for ever y hour of play.

console is connected to the video IN
terminal (usually yellow) of the TV.

2. Make sure that the TV is set to “video”
mode. Some TVs have several video
inputs so please make sure you have
selected the video input that matches the
video port connected to the console.

1.1 Switch to the OFF position and unlock the
cartridge.
1.2 Remove the cartridge and then re-insert it.
1.3 Disconnect all power supplies (batteries
and adaptor), and then reconnect power
supplies.
The TV picture is

1. Make sure the TV is set to the correct TV
system. (E.g. NTSC or Auto)

connected to the video input of the TV and

TO BEGIN PLAY
• Make sure the console is turned OFF.
• Insert a car tridge into the slot at t he top of the console. The side with the label
needs to be facing up. The car tridge should lock into place securely. Please use
care when removing the car tridge from the slot.
• Turn on your TV.
• Set your TV input mode to accept input from the port to which Create-A-Story™
is connected. In many cases this will involve setting the TV to a “video” mode;
however, since all TVs vary, refer to your TV or VCR manual for further details.
• Turn Create-A-Story™ on by sliding the switch to the ON position.
