This fire is for use with natural gas (G20) in the United Kingdom (GB) and
the Republic of Ireland (IE). Conversion to LPG (Propane) must only be
undertaken by a competent person using the approved conversion kit.
It is a live fuel effect gas fire
and must not be used for any other purpose.

PLEASE NOTE
1. The Valor Bolero is to be used only with the type of gas for which it has been supplied. Never attempt to use the
appliance with other gas types.
2. Always use afireguardcomplying withBS6539 or BS6778 for the protection ofyoung children, the elderly or
infirm.
3. The hearthin front ofthe fire should be ofa non-combustible material.
4. The fire is lit by a piezo electronic spark unit.
5. An odour may be noticeable when your fire is first lit. This is due to the newness of certain materials used in the
manufacture and will disappear after a few hours use.
6. Never throw paper, ash or other materials onto your fire.
7. The chimney should have been swept thoroughly before installation.
8. In order to achieve and maintain high levels of personal safety and performance efficiency it is essential that the
opening at the back of the fire and the flue are kept clear ofany form of obstruction. It is possible that deposits of
mortar or soot could fall and accumulate causing the flue to be blocked or restricted and so preventing proper
clearance of dangerous exhaust fumes.
In the United Kingdom it is the law that a landlord must have any gas appliance, flue and pipework which is
situated in a tenant’s premises checked for safety at least every 12 months. We recommend that all gas appliances
and their flues, wherever situated, are checked annually by a competent person (In the UK, a CORGI registered
installer).
9. Ensure that any purpose made room ventilationis kept clearfrom obstruction.
10. This appliance is fitted with an atmosphere sensing device (A.S.D). If the appliance closes down after a period of
operation for no apparent reason. Stop using the appliance until the installation and appliance have been
thoroughly checked by a competent person.

OPERATION OF THE FIRE
1. This fire is controlled by a 4 position gas tap mounted on the front leg of the appliance
(see Fig 1). In addition to the OFF position there is a pilot light and 2 heat control
settings.
As a safety feature all fires are equipped with a flame supervision device which will shut
offthe supply ofgas inthe unlikely event that the fire is extinguished.
2. To Light The Pilot
Depress the controlknob and turnanticlockwise towards the PILOT/IGN position. A
spark should be generated at the pilot while turning. The spark should ignite the pilot.
The pilot flame canbe seen below the dress coalat the front left side.
Keep the button at the PILOT/IGN position for a further ten seconds. This will prevent
the flame sensing device from shutting off the gas while its probe warms up.
If the pilot does not ignite instantly, repeat procedure until ignition is achieved.
NOTE: If after10 seconds pilot ignitionhas not occurred, turnthe control knob back to the OFFposition,wait for3
minutes and then repeat the ignition procedure.
3. Lighting The Main Burner
Once the pilot light is established, the main burner can be lit by depressing and turning the control knob anticlockwise to
the HIGH position.
4. Controlling the Heat Setting
In order to change from one setting to another depress the control knob slightly and turn the knob to the required
position. Alternatively,if a setting between LOWand HIGH is requiredthe control may be set in this position.
Note: Do not operate your fire at the HIGH setting formore thana few minutes in the first eight hours following
installation. This will avoid thermal shock to the coals and burner surface. Minor surface cracking of the burner is normal
and not a cause for concern.
5. To Turn the fire back to Pilot Setting
Depress the control knob and turn clockwise until the pilot setting is reached.
6. To Turn the Appliance Off
Ensure that the control knob is inthe pilot position. Depress the control knob andturn clockwise to the OFF position.

FITTING THE CERAMICS
Place the front base coal in the burner compartment so that it rests onthe ledges at the sides and front. Pull the coal forward sot hat it
is immediately behind the front rim of the burner compartment. (See Fig 3).
Place the rearbase coal matrix in the burnercompartment behind the front coal. It shouldrest on the ledge at the back of the burner
compartment.(See Figure 4).
Install the 14 loose coals as follows. Begin the coal build by placing a single coal in the centre of the front coal, ensuring that it bridges
across to the matrix as shown in figure 5.
Place the other 4 coals resting between the front coal and the coal matrix (2 each side of the first). Please note the coals should bridge
across the front coal to the rear coal matrix not placed in between.(See Figure 6).

Place a single coal upon the two peaks of the coal matrix directly behind the centre line of the first row of coals. See Figure 7.
Place four coals, two each side of the centre coal directly behind the front row of coals (Figures 8).
Place the remaining four coals behind the second row of coals, two each side of the centre coal shape formed within the matrix. (Fig. 9)

CLEANING
Note: Before attempting any of the following ensure that the fire has been allowed to cool completely.
Note: Some discolorationof the coals is normal.
The metal parts of the fire should be carefully cleaned with a damp cloth and then polished with a dry cloth. On no
account should any metal polish or similar be used as this may prove harmful to the surface.
This product uses fueleffect pieces and burnercompartment walls containing Refractory Ceramic Fibres (RCF),which
are man-made vitreous silicate fibres. Excessive exposure to this material may cause temporary irritation to eyes, skin and
respiratory tract.Consequently,it makes sense to take care whenhandling these articles to ensure that the release of dust is
kept to a minimum.
Light coatings of soot will usually be burnt off during the normal operation of the fire. Should any soot accumulation
become excessive,the fueleffect pieces and walls should be removed from the fire for cleaning. Cleaning shouldbe
carried out in a well ventilated area or in the open air by gently brushing with the pieces held away from your face so that
you avoid inhaling the dust. We do not recommend the use of a normal domestic vacuum cleaner which may blow dust
back into the air. We suggest that you remove the coals inthe reverse order to that shown inthe fuel bed refitting
instructions.
The burner surface canbe carefully vacuumed to remove any loose particles.
