
3. Electrical supply
a. Plug in all electrical aquarium appliances into a G.F.C.I. electrical outlet only
b. Do not plug into a extension cord
c. Always disconnect the power to all aquarium devices prior to maintenance
d. Do not plug in the pump until the aquarium is full of water.
e. Remove the light hood and set aside
4. Attach the intake tube to the intake strainer. Both pieces are found inside to the lter
5. Now attach the intake tube/intake strainer to the intake or bottom of the pump
6. Now place the lter on top of the aquarium. The lter is to be placed so that the pump is
on the left side of the aquarium.
7. Remove the biological media and rinse well.
8. Now place the biological media on the bottom of the lter.
a. Models AR620 and AR37T have dual stage biological lters. Evenly disperse
biological media in both stages.
b. Note biological media is not to be replaced. Clean media with tank water only. Tap
water will kill benecial bacteria, which keeps the aquarium stable.
10. Place the lter pads on the top of the biological media. Optional: ViaAqua® carbon
cartridges and lter pads can be used.
a. A small amount of carbon and/or resin ltering media is recommended. Place the
media in a ltering bag and insert into the lter.
11. Now install the spray bar so that the holes in the spray bar are facing down. Now the
lter is ready to be used.
12. Rinse gravel well. It is recommended to use 1 lb. of gravel per gallon.
13. Fill tank with water. When lling the tank with water veries that the container is clean
and not contaminated. The water level should be just below the small holes on the
bottom of the lter.
a. Models AR620 and AR37T ll the water just below the discharge adapter. This is
located on the right side of the dual stage biological lter.
14. When keeping Tropical sh or a saltwater aquarium a ViaAqua® heater is
recommended. Please consult your local tropical sh store or pet supply store for the
proper wattage heater.
a. AR380 and AR680: 50-75 watt ViaAqua® preset heater
b. AR620 and AR37T: 100-150 watt ViaAqua® preset heater
15. Place a thermometer on the opposite side of the heater.
16. Install the heater according to the manufactures guidelines.
a. Wait 15 minutes for the heater to acclimate to the water temperature in the
aquarium prior to plugging the heater into a G.F.C.I. electrical outlet.
b. Place the heater where there is good water circulation.
17. Due to varying water conditions water supplements may be necessary, consult with
your local tropical sh store or pet supply store for the required water conditioners for
your area.
18. Plug in the lter into a G.F.C.I. electrical outlet. Verify the lter is working properly. This
can be done be verifying water is discharging from the small holes on the bottom of the
lter.
19. Place the light hood on the aquarium.
20. Place the lter lid onto the lter.
21. Conrm that there are not any leaks.
22. Once the temperature is stable you are ready for sh and plants.
