Purpose and scope
The purpose of this manual is to help you successfully install the CPRIAdvisor CAP-100 and CAE-
100. It includes instructions that describe how to install, set up, configure, and use the CPRIAdvisor
CAP-100 and CAE-100 easily.
Assumptions
This manual is intended for novice, intermediate, and experienced users who want to use the
CPRIAdvisor CAP-100 and CAE-100 effectively and efficiently. We are assuming that you have basic
installation experience and are familiar with basic telecommunication concepts and terminology.
Safety and compliance information
Safety and compliance information for the instrument are provided upon your request.
Safety consideration
It is mandatory to permanently connect this product to the protective earth.
When powering this instrument externally, always use an AC power cable that includes an earth
(safety) ground connection, which is shipped with your instrument.
WARNING
Do not attempt to service this product yourself, as opening or removing covers may expose you
to dangerous voltage and other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified Viavi service personnel.
CAUTION
This equipment contains parts and assemblies sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD). Use
ESD precautionary procedures when touching, removing, or inserting ESD sensitive parts and
assemblies, or damage to components could result.
An electrostatic-sensitive device can only withstand voltage spikes of 10 to 100 volts. Any
discharge greater than this can damage or effectively destroy such a device while going unnoticed
by a technician. Common plastics (synthetic insulating materials), clothing, and paper or
cardboard are the most common source of static charges.
CAUTION
This instrument uses a Lithium Ion battery that, if not connected correctly, may lead to explosion.
In case the battery needs to be exchanged, it must be the same kind as or compatible with the
one shipped with your instrument.
The battery must not be disposed of in a landfill site or as municipal waste, and should be
disposed of according to your national regulations.

CPRIAdvisorTM is Viavi’s interference monitoring solution composed with a stationary type Probe unit
(CAP-100), Expansion unit (CAE-100), and a remote controlling and monitoring program (CAM-100).
Viavi’s CAP-100 is a key solution that has 16 optical ports to receive 16 optical inputs to perform
RFoCPRI spectrum monitoring. The CAP-100 can store thousands of CPRI profiles and RRH
information and can monitor all uplinks and detect RSSI or PIM alarm. This enables you to manage
and check the impacted sectors or base stations by interference.
You can use a CAE-100 that has 1x36 optical port to extend capacity of CAP-100 for C-RAN
application where more than hundreds of BBU are in a central office. CAP-100 can control up to 16
CAE-100 to expand the optical input capacity up to 576 optical ports.
Using CAM-100, you can easily track down the source of interference by comparing spectrum of
multiple impacted sectors.

Unpacking the CPRIAdvisor CAP-100 and CAE-100
Unpack and inspect the shipping package thoroughly to ensure that nothing was damaged during the
shipment. Also, check that your delivered package includes all items you ordered in the shipment. If
contents in the package are damaged or defective or if there are missing items, keep the shipping list
and materials for carrier’s inspection and contact your nearest Viavi's authorized sales and service
office.
A basic set of the CPRIAdvisor CAP-100 should include the following items in the package.

NOTE
A dedicated rack and a shelf are required when installing the CPRIAdvisor CAE-100.
However, it is not included in the shipment.
NOTE
There are two types of brackets used: a 19-inch rack and a 23-inch rack. CPRIAdvisor
Probe is shipped with a 19-inch rack mounting bracket. You need to order a 23-inch
bracket for 23-inch rack mounting.

You can use this key to reset your CAP-100.
Expansion control port
You can use this port to control the CAE-100 by connecting a control cable from this port to the
Control in port of the CAE-100.
Serial port
You can use this port to enable maintenance and set up CAP-100 initially by configuring an IP
address.
LAN port
You can use this LAN port to connect the CAP-100 to your network and control CAP-100 remotely
using the application software, CAM-100.
USB client port
This port is reserved for future usage.
USB host port
You can use this USB 2.0 port to plug in an external USB memory to extend storage capacity or to
upgrade the CAP-100’s firmware. It supports most USB memory devices with 32-bit file system.

LED status light
This LED status light shows the operation status of the CAP-100. Once the CAP-100’s booting is
completed, it changes from red to illuminating green.
NOTE
The green LED is illuminated when there is a valid communication connection.
Grounding connection
It is used to connect grounding of the CAP-100.
-48 VDC port
This port is used to supply the external power, -48 VDC.
Power switch
You can use this switch to turn your CAP-100 on and off.

You can use this port to connect optical LC cable. The CAP-100 has 16 x LC optical ports.
CAUTION
Do not apply or connect power exceeding -4 dBm to this optical LC port. If such power is
applied, it will degrade the device’s performance and can cause damage to the device in
worst case.

You can use this port to connect the CAE-100 via cascading. It transmits control commands from the
CAP-100 to CAE-100.
Control in port
You can use this port to communicate with the CAP-100.
ID number
It is used to assign a unique ID to CAE-100 (ID range: 0-15). For more detailed ID number setting,
you can refer to the following figure.
Service port
You can use this port to enable maintenance for the CAE-100.

You can use this port to connect the optical cable to 16 x LC optical ports of the rear of the CAP-100.
You can extend up to 16 CAE-100 by connecting the optical cable to this COM port.
NOTE
You need to connect the COM port to an optical port that is positioned in the
same location of ID+1 of the CAE-100.
Optical input port
You can use this port to connect the optical LC cable. You can connect 36 x LC optical ports per each
CAE-100.
Installing the CPRIAdvisor CAP-100
After inspecting your shipment, follow the procedure below to install the CPRIAdvisor CAP-100.
Procedure
To install with a 19-inch rack:
1 Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, install the brackets with screws provided.
2 Mount the CAP-100 to both ends of a 19-inch rack.

To install with a 23-inch rack:
1 Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, install the brackets with screws provided. The bracket
size is longer than the one in the 19-inch rack.
2 Mount the CAP-100 to both ends of a 23-inch rack.
NOTE
The cabinet model RBS6101 and RBS6120 require mid-mount brackets which are
inversely mounted to the CAP-100 due to space limit.
To install 16xLC to 24xMPO adapter pannel (Optional):
3 Mount the MPO adapter panel to the frontal side of one of the two empty slots in the 19-
inch shelf.
