2. Inhalt

Der Decoder ist mit integrierten Schaltkrei-

Griff an einen Heizkörper.

Using the product for its correct
purpose
This product must only be used as required in
this manual. This digital loco decoder is intended
• for installation in model railroad locomotions
with DC motor
• for operation with a digital command station,
which uses the digital formats NMRA-DCC or
Selectrix 1 / 2
• for operation in a dry area.
Using the product for any other purpose is not
approved and is considered incorrect. The
manufacturer cannot be held responsible for
any damage resulting from the improper use of
this product.
2. Content
Caution:
Integrated circuits (ICs) are inserted on the
decoder. They are sensitive to static elec-
tricity. Do not touch components without
rst discharging yourself. Touching a radia-
tor or other grounded metal part will dis-
charge you.
Checking the package contents
Check the contents of the package for complete-
ness after unpacking:

3. Functions
The decoder DH10A is a very at multi protocol
decoder for the systems SX1, SX1 with adress
dynamics, SX2, DCC and automatical switchover
to DC conventional operation. The motor output
delivers up to 1 A power. The decoder has two
function outputs and two light outputs.

Der Decoder ist ab Werk für den Betrieb
mit DCC eingestellt. Für den Betrieb mit SX1
Adressdynamik muss der Decoder einmal mit
der SX2 Parameter-Programmiermethode
programmiertwerden.Hierbeigenügtes,die
4-stellige Loknummer zu programmieren bzw.
zu verändern.
Überlast-Schutz
Sobald der zulässige Gesamtstrom des Decoders
(1A)überschrittenwird,schaltetderDecoderau-
tomatischdenMotorunddieFunktionsausgänge
füreinekurzeZeitab.DieserVorgangwirdsolan-
gewiederholt,bisderKurzschlussbeseitigtist.
4. Einbau und Anschluss
RüstenSienurelektrischundmechanischein-
wandfrei funktionierende Fahrzeuge mit einem Di-
gitaldecoder aus. Fahrzeuge ggf. vor dem Einbau
des Decoders warten / instandsetzen.
PrüfenSievordemEinbaudesDecoders,
ob der maximale Strom des Lokmotors un-
ter Last unterhalb des maximal zulässigen
Wertes von 1000 mAliegt. Liegt der Wert
oberhalbvon1000mA,istdieserDecoder
nicht für den Einbau in die Lok geeignet. Er
würde bei Inbetriebnahme zerstört.
EinhilfreichesZubehörfürdenEinbauvonLok-
decodern ist das Viessmann Lokdecoder-Einbau-
set(Art.6819).EsenthältKlebepads,Schrumpf-
schlauchstücke,passendeKabel,Lötzinnund
eine Lötanleitung.
Einbau in Loks

Beachten Sie den Anschlussplan in Abb. 1.

By default the decoder is set up for DCC
operation. For operation with SX1 adress dyn-
mics, the decoder has to be programmed once
with SX2 parameter programming method.
Please program the 4digit loco number.
Overload protection
As soon as the decoder´s maximum total current
(1000 mA) is exceeded, the decoder automatically
temporally switches off the motor and the function.
This operation will be repeated until the overload
has been eliminated.
4. Mounting and Connections
Only locomotives, which run smoothly in analogue
mode, should be equipped with a digital decoder.
If needed, clean and repair the loco before install-
ing the decoder.
Before mounting the decoder check if the
maximum locomotive motor´s current on-
load is below the maximum permissible val-
ue of 1000 mA. If it is above 1000 mA the
decoder is not suitable for mounting in this
locomotive. It would be damaged when put
into operation.
An useful accessory for the mounting of loco de-
coders is the Viessmann installation set for loco
decoders (#6819). It contains all materials for trou-
ble free installation of decoders into model engines
as e. g. wires, shrink sleeves, adhesive pads etc.
Mounting into locos

Follow the connection diagram g. 1.
► Open the loco and remove the bridge plate
from the interface socket of the loco.
► Shorten the at cable up to approx. 5 mm-
► Remove the insulation of the cable.

rechtenbzw.linkenRadschleiferverbundenwar.
Das Flachbandkabel muss vor dem Einbau des
DecodersmiteinemfeinenMesserineinzelne
Adern„zerlegt“werden.Möglicherweiseistesein-
facher,dasFlachbandkabeldurchexibleLitzen
ausdemLokdecoder-EinbausetindenNEM-Far-
ben(sieheTabelleunten)zuersetzen.
Beachten Sie unbedingt die Belegung der An-
schlüsse(Tabelleunten)unddieAbbildung1.
► Isolate the bottom side of the decoder with a
strip of e. g. Tesalm.
► Insert the NEM 651-connector into the interface
socket of the locomotive.
The top side of the decoder (with electronic ele-
ments) must be inserted upwards.
Insulate all metal parts close to the decoder but
don’t wrap the decoder with insulation tape to
avoid overheating. Otherwise the decoder may
be thermally overloaded. If necessarry x the de-
coder with a double sided adhesive pad.
Mounting into locos

Caution:
Before you start, completely insulate the
motor and its terminals against the chassis
of the locomotive and the current pickups
(wheel pick-ups).

Die Unterseite des Decoders hat konstruktions-
bedingtmehrePads,dieinkeinemFallMetallflä-
chen des Fahrzeuges berühren dürfen.
Beachten Sie:
Vorhandene Kondensatoren zwischen den
MotorzuleitungenkönnendieRegelung
massivbeeinussem.Diesesolltendaher
entfernt werden. Weiterhin sollten auch die
evtl. vorhandenen Kondensatoren bei den
Lichtanschlüssen entfernt werden
Anschluss von Verbrauchern an die
Funktions- bzw. Lichtausgänge
Prüfen Sie vor dem Anschluss der Beleuchtung
undweitererZusatzgeräteandieFunktionsaus-
gänge,obderStromunterhalbderjeweilsmaxi-
malzulässigenWerteliegt(sieheTabellelinks)
undderGesamtstromeinschließlichMotorstrom
1000 mA nicht übersteigt. Werden Beleuchtungen
oder andere Verbraucher mit einem Strom von
mehr als 150 bzw. 300 mA an den Decoder ange-
schlossen oder beträgt der Gesamtstrom aller an-
geschlossenenVerbraucherunddesMotorsmehr
als1000mA,kannderDecoderbeiderInbetrieb-
nahme beschädigt werden.
SchließenSieZusatzgeräteandieFunktionsaus-
gänge AUX 1 und AUX 2 des Decoders an.
Anschluss von LEDs
DieFunktionsausgänge(Licht,Zusatzfkt.)des
Decoders schalten gegen Decodermasse. Daher
müssen an die Funktionsausgänge die Kathoden
(-)derLEDsangeschlossenwerden.
Remember which motor terminal was connected
with the right or left wheel pick-up.
The decoder at cable has to be cut with a hobby-
knife into single wires. It may be easier to replace
the at cable with exible wires in NEM colours
contained in the Locomotive Decoder Installation
Set.
Notice the table below and gure 1 which shows
the connection diagram.
► Open the locomotive housing. Locate the posi-
tion for the decoder.
► Disconnect the motor from the rail current
collector.
► Connect M1 with the pole of the motor, which
was connected to the wheels on the right side
in direction of travel 1 (orange).
Connect M2 with the pole of the motor, which
was connected to the wheels on the left side in
direction of travel 1 (grey).
► Connect G1 with the right wheels
(direction of travel 1, red).
► Connect G2 with the leftt wheels
(direction of travel 1, black).
► Connect Lv with the front light of direction of
travel 1 (white).
► Connect Lr with the front light of direction of
travel 2 (yellow).
The bottom side of the decoder has some pads,
which must never get contact to metal parts of the
locomotion.

►VerbindenSieLv mit dem Spitzen-
lichtderFahrtrichtung1(weiß).
►VerbindenSieLr mit dem Spitzen-
lichtderFahrtrichtung2(gelb).

Beachten Sie:
WennSieLEDseinsetzen,müssenSiedie-
se immer über einen Vorwiderstand betrei-
ben!DieVorwiderständesindjenachStrom
und Bauform der Leuchtdioden unterschied-
lich. Ermitteln Sie die richtigen Werte oder
erfragen Sie sie beim Kauf.
Sie können mehrere LEDs an einen Ausgang par-
allelanschließen.DabeibenötigtjedeDiodeeinen
eigenen Vorwiderstand. Wenn Sie mehrere LEDs
aneinenAusganginReiheanschließen,reichtein
Vorwiderstand aus.
Befestigung des Lokdecoders
Nach Fertigstellung aller Anschlüsse sollten Sie
den Lokdecoder 52521 befestigen. Dies kann
z. B. mit doppelseitigem Klebeband erfolgen.
5. Programmierung
Der Decoder 52521 kann durch Programmierung
an Ihre Lokomotive und das von Ihnen gewünsch-
te Betriebsverhalten angepasst werden. Folgen
Sie bei der Programmierung den Hinweisen in der
BetriebsanleitungIhresDCC-bzw.SELECTRIX©-
Systems.ZurProgrammierungdarfsichaufdem
Programmiergleis nur das zu programmierende
Fahrzeugbenden.
Bevor Sie mit dem Programmieren des Lokdeco-
dersbeginnen,mussderMotorandenDecoder
angeschlossensein,dasonstkeineRückmeldung
zur(DCC-)Zentraleerfolgenkann.
Beachten Sie:
Beim Einstellen des Decoders wird die
System-Betriebsart des Decoders entspre-
chendderverwendetenMethodeautoma-
tischeingestellt.Diejeweilsverwendete
MethodederDecoderprogrammierungbe-
stimmt die Betriebsart. Lesen der Deco-
dereinstellungen verändert die Betriebsart
nicht,mitAusnahmeSX-1Lesendererwei-
tertenKennwerte,dahierbeiderDecoder
intern umprogrammiert werden muss.

Höchstgeschwindigkeit
Attention:
The interference suppression devices (ca-
pacitators) mounted to the motor or the
connecting wires may inuence the control
massively. Therfore all capacitators at the
motor or light connections should be re-
moved.
Connecting accessories to the outputs
Before connecting the lighting and other accesso-
ries to the outputs check if the current is below the
maximum permissible values per output (see table
on pg. 4) and the total current is below 1000 mA
(including motor current). If lighting or other acces-
sories with current larger than 150 resp. 300 mA
are connected, or if the total current of the motor
and the accessories is higher than 1000 mA the
decoder will be damaged when put into operation.
Connect the accessories to the function outputs
AUX1 and AUX2 of the decoder.
Connecting the LEDs
The function outputs of the decoder switch re-
spective to the decoder ground. For that reason
you must connect the cathode (-) of the LEDs to
the function outputs.
Caution:
If you use light-emitting diodes (LEDs) you
must always operate them via a series re-
sistor. LEDs are available in many differ-
ent models. The series resistor limits the
current ow of the LED and will need to be
calculated for each model. Ask for the max.
current rating when buying your LEDs.
You can connect several LEDs in parallel to each
output. In this case every LED must have a series
resistor of its own. If you connect several LEDs
to one output in series, only one series resistor is
needed.
Fixing the locomotive decoder
After completing all connections x the locomotive
decoder 52521 with double-sided adhesive tape,
for example.
5. Programming
The decoder 52521 can be adapted to your loco-
motive and the desired operating characteristics
by programming. Follow the instructions of your
DCC or SELECTRIX system. During programming
only the locomotive to be programmed is allowed
to be on the programming track.

Bei der Intellibox der Fa. Uhlenbrock – un-
ter Umständen auch bei anderen Digital-
zentralen – kann bei Programmierungsbe-
ginneineFehlermeldungauftreten,sodass
eineweitereEingabevonCV-Wertenun-
möglich ist.

(DCC-) central unit.
Notice:
The operation mode (SX1, SX2, DCC) of
the decoder will be set up automatically ac-
cording to the programming method (dig-
ital format) used for the programming. E. g.
programming the decoder in DCC mode,
the decoder will work in DCC.
Read out of decoder settings doesn’t
change the operation mode (except read
out of SX1 settings).

DCC-System

DieDefaultwertesinddieWerte,diebeiAusliefe-
rungeingestelltsind,unddienacheinemReset
eingestellt werden.
Hinweis:FüreinigeKongurationsvariablen
werden die Eingabewerte durch Addieren der
Zahlenwerteermittelt,diedengewünschten
Einstellungen entsprechen.
SX2-System
In der Tabelle ab Seite 11f sind die Parameter (für
dasSX2-Format)aufgeführt,diefürdenDecoder
52521 eingestellt werden können.
7. Betrieb
DCC-System
Anwahl der Lok: Die Lok kann über die kurze
Lokadresse oder über die lange Lokadresse ent-
sprechendderEintragunginderDCC-Einstellung
(CV029)Bit5(Wert32)angesprochenwerden.
Zusatzfunktionen: Der Decoder unterstützt in
BetriebsmodusDCCdasEin-/Ausschaltender
AusgängeAux1undAux2,RangiergangundAb-
blendlicht. Diese Funktionen sind mappbar.
Mehrfachtraktion:ZusätzlichkanndieLokfür
MehrfachtraktionüberihreConsistAdresseange-
sprochenwerden,soferndieseeingegebenwur-
de.WirddieLoküberdieConsistAdresseange-
sprochen,reagiertsienichtmehraufdieFahrbe-
fehle,dieansieüberdiekurzeoderlangeAdres-
se gegeben werden. Jedoch werden die Funkti-
onen,dienichtdemConsist-Moduszugeordnet
wurden,weiterhinvondenBefehlenderkurzen
bzw. langen Adresse ausgewertet. Hierzu müssen
ggf.dieCV021und022angepasstwerden.
Beschleunigungs- und Bremsverzögerung: Bei
diesemDecoderkanndieinterneMassensimula-
tion für Beschleunigen und Bremsen auf bis über
250 Sekunden vom Stillstand bis zur Höchstge-
schwindigkeit und umgekehrt eingestellt werden.
AufModellbahnenmusswegenderwesentlich
kürzeren Strecken eine kurze Verzögerungszeit

Programming with DCC central units
You can programm the conguration variables
(CV) of the decoder from the digital central unit.
See the chapter in the manual of your central unit
where the byte wise programming of conguration
variables (CVs) is explained.
Notice:
Using the Intellibox from Uhlenbrock – pos-
sibly also with other digital central units –
there is the possibility of an error message
at the beginning of programming, so that
any further application of the CVs is not
possible.
6. Setup values
DCC system (CVs)
The following on pages 9 and 10 shows all con-
guration variables (for the DCC format) that can
be set for the decoder 52521.
Notice:
 Forsomecongurationvariables,theinput
values have to be calculated by adding the
numerical values assigned to the desired pa-
rameters.
SX2 system (parameters)
The tabel on pages 11 and 12 show the param-
eters for the conguration of the decoder 52521 in
the SX2 format.
7. Operation
DCC system
Selecting the locomotive: Subject to the cor-
responding DCC setting (CV 029) bit 5 (value 32)
the locomotive can be called up either by its short
or long address.
Auxiliary functions: In DCC mode the decoder
supports switching AUX1 on and off, a shunt-
ing mode button and dimming the headlights. Via
function mapping the functions can be assigned to
other function buttons if so desired.
Consists: The locomotive can also be controlled
via the consist address provided it has been en-
tered beforehand. In consist mode the locomotive
will not respond to motor control commands sent
to the short or long address. However, any func-
tion not linked to consist mode can be controlled
via the short or long address. It may be necessary
to adjust the values in CV 021 and CV 022.
Acceleration and deceleration: The internal in-
ertia simulation can be set to more than 250 sec-
