This operating manual contains information about the operation, repair and maintenance
of the unit.
Always observe these instructions when operating the device.
This equipment can be dangerous if it is not operated in accordance with this operating
manual.
Electrostatic spray guns may only be operated by trained personnel.
Compliance with these instructions constitutes an integral component of the guarantee
agreement.
Warning instructions in this operating manual highlight particular dangers to users and
equipment and state measures for avoiding the hazard. These warning instructions fall

2 GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
2.1 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE OPERATOR
2.1.1 ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

Keep these operating instructions to hand near the unit at all times.
Always follow local regulations concerning occupational safety and accident
prevention.
Electrical devices and equipment
To be provided in accordance with the local safety requirements with regard to the
operating mode and ambient inuences.
May only be maintained by skilled electricians or under their supervision.
Must be operated in accordance with the safety regulations and electro-technical
regulations
Must be repaired immediately in the event of problems.
Must be put out of operation if they pose a hazard.
Switch o the power before beginning work on active parts. Inform sta about planned
work. Observe electrical safety regulations.
Ensure that the unit is operated and repaired only by trained persons.
Ensure that the oor in the working area is electrically conductive in accordance with
EN 61340-4-1 (resistance must not exceed 100 MOhm).
Ensure that all persons within the working area wear electrically conductive shoes.
Footwear must comply with EN 20344. The measured insulation resistance may not
exceed 100 MOhm.
Ensure that during spraying, persons wear electrically conductive gloves so that they
are earthed via the handle of the spray gun.
If protective clothing is worn, including gloves, it has to comply with EN 1149-5. The
measured insulation resistance may not exceed 100 MOhm.
Paint mist extraction systems must be tted on site according to the local regulations.
Ensure that the following components of a safe working environment are available:
– Material/air hoses adapted to the working pressure.
– Personal safety equipment (breathing and skin protection).
Ensure that there are no ignition sources such as naked ame, sparks, glowing wires or
hot surfaces in the vicinity. Do not smoke.

2.3 CORRECT USE
2.4 REFERENCE TO GERMAN REGULATIONS AND GUIDELINES
Always follow the information in these instructions, particularly the general safety
instructions and the warning instructions.
Always follow local regulations concerning occupational safety and accident
prevention.
When putting into operation and during all work, read and follow the operating
instructions and safety regulations for the additional system components required.
Do not open the unit.
When preparing or working with paint and when cleaning the unit, follow the working
instructions of the manufacturer of the paints, solvents and cleaning agents being
used.
Take the specied protective measures, in particular wear safety goggles, protective
clothing and gloves, as well as hand protection cream if necessary.
Use a mask or breathing apparatus if necessary.
For sucient health and environmental safety: Operate the unit in a spray booth or on
a spraying wall with the ventilation (extraction) switched on.
Wear suitable protective clothing when working with hot materials.
WAGNER accepts no liability for any damage arising from incorrect use.
Only use the unit to work with the materials recommended by WAGNER.
Only operate the entire unit.
Do not deactivate safety xtures.
Use only WAGNER original spare parts and accessories.

3 GUARANTEE AND CONFORMITY DECLARATIONS
3.1 IMPORTANT NOTES ON PRODUCT LIABILITY
3.2 GUARANTEE CLAIM
As a result of an EC regulation eective from January 1, 1990, the manufacturer shall only
be liable for his product if all parts originate from him or are approved by him, and if the
devices are properly mounted, operated and maintained.
The manufacturer will not be held liable or will only be partially held liable if third-party
accessories or spare parts have been used.
With genuine WAGNER accessories and spare parts, you have the guarantee that all safety
regulations are complied with.
The following guarantee is provided for this device:
At our discretion, we will repair or replace free of charge all parts which are found to be
wholly or substantially unusable due to causes which arose prior to the sale, in particular
faulty design, defective materials or poor workmanship within 24 months in single-shift,
12 months in 2-shift or 6 months in 3-shift operation from date of receipt by the purchaser.
The guarantee provided is such that the device or individual components of the device
are either replaced or repaired as we see t. The resulting costs, in particular shipping
charges, road tolls, labour and material costs will be borne by us except where these costs
are increased due to the subsequent shipment of the unit to a location other than the
address of the purchaser.
We do not provide warranty for damage that has been wholly or partially caused by the
following reasons:
Unsuitable or improper use, faulty installation or commissioning by the purchaser or a
third party, normal wear and tear, negligent handling, defective maintenance, unsuitable
coating products, substitute materials and the action of chemical, electrochemical or
electrical agents, except when the damage is attributable to us.
Abrasive coating products such as redlead, emulsions, glazes, liquid abrasives, zinc dust
paints and similar reduce the service life of valves, packings, spray guns, nozzles, cylinders,
pistons etc. Signs of wear and tear due to such causes are not covered by this guarantee.
Components that have not been manufactured by WAGNER are subject to the original
manufacturer's guarantee.
Replacement of a component does not extend the guarantee period for the device.
The unit should be inspected immediately upon receipt. To avoid loss of guarantee, we
or the supplier company are to be informed in writing of obvious faults within 14 days of
receipt of the device.
We reserve the right to arrange for a contracting company to full our guarantee
requirements.
The services provided by this guarantee depend on evidence being provided in the form
of an invoice or delivery note. If an examination discovers that no guarantee claim exists,
the costs of repairs are charged to the purchaser.
It is clearly stipulated that this guarantee claim does not represent any constraint to
statutory regulations or regulations agreed contractually in our general terms and
conditions.

4.4 CONVERSION OF THE RESISTANCE OF PAINT
The meter RS 500 measures the paint resistance in ohms (Ω), kiloohms (kΩ) or megaohms
(MΩ). To convert this measured paint resistance from kΩ into the specic resistance value
in kΩ.cm, the measurement can be multiplied by the cell constant.
Specic resistance = measured resistance x cell constant
Rspec. = Rmeas x K (cell constant K = 123)
Example:
Resistance of paint measured: Rmeas = 400 kΩ
Specic resistance of paint Rspec = Rmeas x K
Rspec = 400 kΩ x 123 = 49200 kΩ.cm = 49.2 MΩ.cm

5 STARTUP AND OPERATION

5.2 UNDERTAKING ZERO CALIBRATION
Note:
A zero calibration must always be undertaken before probing!
Procedure:
1. Turn right "Functions" rotary switch to "ZERO CALIBRATE".
2. Turn potentiometer for zero calibrate until the scale indicator is at the "Adjust"
marking.

5.3 UNDERTAKING BATTERY TEST
Note:
A zero calibration must always be undertaken before the battery test!
Procedure:
1. Turn right "Functions" rotary switch to "BATTERY TEST".
2. The battery status is indicated on the scale (see chap. 4.6).

5.4 MEASURING RESISTANCE OF PAINT
Note:
Zero calibration and a battery test must always be undertaken before probing!
The probe must be cleaned before each measurement.
Correct functioning is indicated as follows:
Needle almost at left-hand stop (resistance very high) before immersion and after cleaning
the probe.
Use in area at risk of explosion!
Explosion hazard.
Position container for probing outside area at risk of explosion!
Earth container!

Probing:
1. Turn right "Functions" rotary switch to "RESISTIVITY TEST".
2. Always immerse measuring probe in liquid down to mark (see arrow in diagram on
left).
Note:
The measuring probe must not touch the container during probing!
3. Read value o the scale and compare with value in table below.
4. The probe must be cleaned immediately after probing!
5. Once probing is complete, switch unit o again!

5.5 CLEANING THE PROBE
The probe must be clean if the paint resistance is to be measured accurately. The probe
must therefore always be cleaned thoroughly before and after probing!
A suitable solvent must be used to clean the probe.
The meter is not solvent-resistant and therefore must not be cleaned with solvent! Protect
meter from contamination!
Thoroughly clean outside of probe, in measuring gap and measuring gap extension!
Cleaning range
Improper cleaning!
Risk of injury and damage to the equipment.
De-energize the unit electrically.
Ensure that the cleaning agent's ash point is at least 15 K above
the ambient temperature or that cleaning is undertaken on a
station with guaranteed ventilation.
To clean, use cloths and brushes moistened with solvent.
Abrasive agents or objects must not be used.
The meter must not be cleaned with solvents.
Only use electrically conductive containers for cleaning liquids.
The containers must be earthed.
