Power supply. The 12V adapter is used to supply power when the FireWire
host does not supply enough power or the hard disk drive being used tries to
draw too much power over the FireWire Bus. Once power is attached, the
Forensic ComboDock with Bus Power is ready to attach to a computer via
FireWire. Forensic ComboDock with Bus Power may utilize any 12V regulated
switching power supply capable of supplying 2A or greater. Do not use
unregulated adapters, as damage may occur to the dock or the attached
drive.

When power is attached either through the FireWire BUS or through the AC
adapter, the green LED will illuminate (A). The green LED in the middle
illuminates when the power switch is in the ON position (B). The red LED
illuminates when the drive is being accessed (C). The red LED access
indicator will illuminate briefly after the unit is powered up, indicating that the
FireWire Bridge has successfully established communication with the drive.
Thereafter, it will illuminate whenever the drive is accessed. If the access
LED does not blink shortly after drive spin up, it may indicate a problem with
the drive or the Forensic ComboDock with Bus Power. If the access LED
blinks at a steady rate, this also may be indicative of a problem or an
incorrectly jumpered drive.
8. Usage with a Mac. Operation is plug and play under Mac OS 9.1, 9.2 and OS X. No drivers are needed. FireWire 800
ports are FireWire 400 host compatible.
Usage with a PC. The Forensic ComboDock with Bus Power is plug and play with FireWire for Win 2K, ME, and XP. No
drivers are needed. FireWire 800 ports are FireWire 400 host compatible.
Macintosh Booting. The firmware supports FireWire booting on a Mac that supports booting from an external FireWire
drive.
Operating Bus Powered and AC Powered
Bus Powered
Connect the Forensic ComboDock with Bus Power to the hard drive you wish to use. Plug the FireWire cable into the outside
FireWire port of the Super DriveDock+. The Green LED closest to the screw head will illuminate. With the host computer booted
up and running, Turn the Forensic ComboDock with Bus Power switch to the “B” BUS power position. The middle LED should
illuminate GREEN and the drive should spin up.
If the middle LED (B) turns solid YELLOW, the Host is not providing enough power to spin up the hard drive. Follow the
instructions for using the SpinBoost™ or use the AC adapter. The RED LED (C) usually blinks one time and stops.
If the middle LED (B) blinks yellow and the RED LED (C) blinks steadily, then the hard drive is trying to pull more power than
FireWire can provide and the DOCK is resetting itself. Turn the DOCK off and follow the instructions for using the AC Power
adapter. Using the SpinBoost™ does not usually resolve this condition.
Using SpinBoost™
Plug the FireWire cable in to the Forensic ComboDock with Bus Power. Make sure the power switch is in the OFF position. Plug
the Spin Boost into the AC port of the Forensic ComboDock with Bus Power and wait for 60 seconds to allow the SpinBoost to
charge. You can see the green light brighten as the SpinBoost charges (from complete discharge). With the drive and FireWire
cable attached, turn the power switch to the “B” BUS power position. The drive should spin up normally. If the Drive still does not
spin up and mount, you will need to use the AC adapter with the drive/host configuration.
AC Powered
Connect the hard drive to the Forensic ComboDock with Bus Power. With the Power switch in the middle OFF position (0), plug
in the AC adapter. The first LED (A) should illuminate steady GREEN to show power is present. Connect the FireWire cable to
the inside FireWire port. Turn the Power switch towards the AC connector (position “1”). The middle LED should now illuminate
a steady GREEN. The drive should spin up and when the drive has reached full rotational speed, the Armature inside should
activate and the RED LED (C) should blink one time. Then as the drive is being accessed, the RED LED should blink in
response to data transmissions.
GREEN LED “A” Steady Green light Power is applied to DOCK
GREEN/YELLOW LED “B” Steady Green / Alternating Green - Yellow Power is ON / Not enough BUS power
RED LED “C” Steady constant flashing / Erratic flashing Drive pulling too much power / Data access
