STEP1CreatenewFlightPlan:
WingtraPilotwillopenwiththewelcomemenu.Forflyingandcollectingdata,selectthefirstitem"Create
anewFlightPlan"andfollowtheinterface.Youcangobacktothewelcomemenuatanytimeby
pressingtheorangeWingtraicononthetopleftofthescreen.

STEP2SetHome:
PlaceWingtraOneatyourdesiredtakeoffandlandingpoint.SetHomeonWingtraPilotbyclickingonthe
firstitemonleftside(A).IfyouareconnectedtoWingtraOne,Homeisautomaticallyplacedto
WingtraOne'slocation.Ifyouplantheflightbeforehandinoffice,youcanmoveittotheplacewhereyou
intendtotakeoff—itwillbeadjustedtoWingtraOne'slocationonceyouareonthefield.Adjust"transition
altitude"and"transitiondirection"ontherightside(C)suchthatWingtraOnewillnotcollidewithany
obstacle.
WingtraOnewilltakeoff,risetoyour"transitionaltitude"aboveHome,transitionintoforwardflight,flyto
thedrawnloitercircle,loiteruptotheareaaltitudeandstartdatacollection.Afterfinishingdatacollection,
itwillflybacktotheloitercircleatthealtitudeofthelastarea,loiterdownto"transitionaltitude",flyback
totheHomepoint,transitionaboveHome,andland.

Youcanaddoneormoreareasthatyouwanttomapbyclickingontheareaitemontheleftside(A).
Chooseyourdesiredgroundsamplingdistance(oralternatively,yourdesiredaltitude)ontherightside
(C),andadjusttheflightdirectionandoverlapsifneeded.Makesureyouselectedthecorrectcamera
model.Movethecorners(minussigns)andaddadditionalcornersuntilyoudrawtheareathatyouwant
tomap.
STEP4ReviewtheFlightPlan:
Reviewtheterrainthoroughly:makesureWingtraOnewillnotcollidewithanyobstacles.Alsocheckthat
yourflightdoesnotviolatelawsorWingtraOnemarket-entryrestrictions.
5.(Optional)AdjustCameraSettings
Inmostcases,thedefaultcamerasettingsshouldbefine.Usethefollowingproceduretochange
settings:
1. PowerWingtraOne,ifnotdoneyet.
2. ManuallyturnontheQX1byclickingtheOn/Offbuttononthecamera.IfyouflyanRX1R2itis
alreadyturnedon.
3. AdjustsettingsviaSony'aPlayMemoriesapp(QX1)orviathecameraitself(RX1),seecamera
chapterfordetails.

4. Tosavethesettingsyouhavetomanuallyturnoffthecamerabyswitchingtheon/offbutton.Incase
oftheRX1makesuretoturnonthecameraafterwardsagain.
6.GothroughPreflightChecks
GothroughthepreflightchecklistwithinWingtraPilotbeforeyoustarttheflight.Ifanyofthepreflight
checksfails(e.g.sensorfailure),therespectivepreflightcheckturnsred.Startingaflightispossibleonly
onceallcheckshavebeencompletedsuccessfully.Foradetaileddescriptionofallpreflightchecksand
troubleshootingadvice,seethepreflightchecklistsection.
WingtraOnetakesaseriesoftestpicturesduringpreflightproceduretoensurethecamerais
working.ForQX1,checkifyoucanhearthecamera'sshutter,forRX1R2openthecoverandwatch
onscreenifpicturesaretaken.Waitfortheaudio-feedback"Testpicturesaretaken"beforetaking
off.

RCconnectionarelost.Forfurtherdetails,seethechaptersaboutyouroptionstointeractandfailsafe
scenarios.
Onlyuseemergencystopinrealemergencycases.Emergencystopwillkillthemotorsandmake
WingtraOnespiraldownwithoutanycontrol.Thereisnowaytoregaincontrolonemergencystop.

9.GeotagtheImages
ThecollectedimagesaresavedontheSDcardinthecamerawithoutassignedGPSinformation
(geotags).Toassigngeotagstotheimages,youneedtoperformthefollowing3steps.Tagyourimages
alwaysrightafterflight.
STEP1:DownloadtheGeotags
Afterlanding,WingtraPilotwillstartdownloadingthegeotagsautomatically.Ifthedownloadfails,clickon
"Retry"andwalktowardsWingtraOnetogetbetterconnection.

STEP2:GeotagImagesontheTablet
Afterthedownloadissuccessful,clickon"GeotagImages".ThenpoweroffWingtraOne,getSDcard
fromthecameraandinserttheSDcardtoyourtablet.SelecttheimagedirectoryontheSDcardthat
containsyourimages,andclick"StartTagging".Bepatient!Geotaggingimagescantakeseveralminutes.
ThegeotagswillbedirectlysavedtotheEXIFmetadataoftheimages.
Youcanplanthenextflightinparallelandcontinuecollectingmoredata,whilegeotaggingtakesplacein
thebackground.
STEP3:Inspect/SaveImages
Toinspectyourimages,opentheMyFilesApp,navigatetoSDcard/DCIM/andintoyourprojectfolder.
Openanimageinthe/Taggedsubfolderandselect"Gallery"asimageviewer.
TheSDcardshouldprovideenoughspaceforseveralflights(upto3000-4000JPEGimages),youcan
continueflyingdirectlyorinserttheSDcardonalaptopandsavethedataaftereveryflight.
10.UsetheGeotaggedImagesinyourPostprocessingToolchain
CopythegeotaggedimagesfromtheSDcardtoyourcomputerandusethemwithyourfavorite
postprocessingtoolchain.Alwaysusetheimagesfromthe/Taggedsubfolder.

Focusshouldbesetto"manualfocus"andinfinity.Autofocusleadstoinaccurategeotaggingand
potentiallyholesinthemapduetomissedtriggers.Werecommendnottouchingthefocusunlessyou
haveproblemswithimagesharpness.Afterexchanginglenses(from15mmVoigtländertothe16/20mm
lens)wehighlyrecommendtoconfirmagoodfocussetpointofthelenspriortothefirstflight.
TocheckthefocussetpointofthecameraplacetheWingtraOnewiththecamerafacingtothehorizon
andpowertheWingtraOne.Thenremovethetopcoverandpresstheon/offbuttonofQX1andconnect
tocamerausingthePlayMemoriesApponyourtablet.Youshouldseealiveviewofthecameraimage.
Takeapictureandpinchtozoomintothefetchedimageonthetablet.Iftheimageissharpjust
disconnectthecamerafromthePlaymemoriesAppbypressingthebackbuttononthetablettwice.Ifthe
imageisnotsharpyoushouldadjustthefocussetpoint,asexplainedinthetroubleshootingsection.

WingtraOnetakesaseriesoftestpicturesafteryoupresstheReady-To-Flybuttonduringthepreflight
proceduretocheckifthecameraissetupcorrectly,i.e.tomakesurethattheSDcardisinsertedcorrectly
andtriggeringfromtheautopilotispossible.ListentothecameraafteryoupresstheReady-To-Flybutton.
Ifyouheartheshutteropeningandclosing(clickingsound)youcanbesurethateverythingworksfine.If
yourunintotrouble,checkthesectionbelowbeforereachingouttoWingtraSupport.

Makesurethatyourcameraispowered(greenLEDonthecamerahousing)
RestartthePlayMemoriesAppandseeifyoucanconnectnow.
Takecameraoutofthefoam(youhavetodiconnectthevioletcable)andlookatthetinyscreen.
Checkifyoucanread WiFionthescreen—ifnot,openthecameracoverandclickthesmallWiFi
buttontochangetosingle-channelWiFimode.Closethecoverandtrytoconnectagain.Reconnect
thevioletcableafteryoure-insertedthecameratothemount.TheSonyQX1has3WiFimodes:

Single-channelWiFi(preferred)

TheSonyQX1issettomanualfocusmodetoensureaccuratetriggering(minimizingtriggeringtime
delays).Ifyouseethattheimagesareoutoffocus,youhavetwooptionstoadjustmanually:
Option1:PowerWingtraOne,manuallyswitchonthecamera(pressOn/Offbuttononcamera
housing),connectthecameratothePlaymemoriesAppviaWifiandtakethecameraoutofthe
foam(youhavetodisconnectthevioletcable)andadjustthefocusmanuallytoinfinity.Todo
thatpointthecameratowardsaremoteobjectandturnthefocusringclockwise(lookingintothe
camera)forawholeturnfollowedbyslowlyturingtheringback(counterclockwise)by5to10°.
Bycarefullyobservingtheimagedisplayedonthetabletyoucanfindthepointofmaximum
sharpnessforremoteobjects.Exposeafewimagesandchecktheimagesharpnessonthe
tablet.OnceyouaresatisfieddisconnectthecamerafromthePlaymemoriesAppbypressing
thebackbuttononthetablettwiceandturnoffthecamerabypressingtheon/offbutton.
Reinsertthecamerainthethemountandreconnectthevioletcable.
Option2:PowerWingtraOne,manuallyswitchonthecamera(pressOn/Offbuttononcamera
housing),openthePlayMemoriesapponyourtabletandconnecttothecamera.Changefocus
modetoAuto,pointthecameracentertocloudsoranobjectmorethan50maway,waituntilthe
focusadjusts,andswitchbacktomanualfocus.Thandisconnectthecamerafromthe
PlayMemoriesAppbypressingthebackbuttononthetablettwiceandturnoffthecameraby
pressingtheon/offbutton.
